For most of his life Theodore has been known as Theodore Freak. From countless years of bullying, which was caused by a conversation between two friends, could have led to Theodore’s suicidal thoughts. Theodore kept an entry of all the attempted suicidal thoughts he had, their dates, on a scale of one to ten of how close he was for following through, to a history of other people dying this way. On top of the bell tower, Theodore was feeling about a five. What stopped him for leaping off? Was not a what, but a whom. Standing a few feet over was a terrified Violet Markey. Speaking calmly, he helped Violet get away from the edge and back to safety. When everyone in the school thought that Violet had save Theodore Freak, he let them, because Theodore did not care what other’s thought of him. With U.S Geography being the only class Theodore had with Violet, he chooses her to be his partner for their 35% assignment, of finding and writing about the …show more content…
When her older sister, Elenore, died in a car crash, that Violet survived with minor injuries, she had lost the will to write. Just do your best” (25). Eleanor died nine months ago, which is why Mr. Black told her this when she tried to get out of doing to Indiana project with Finch: No. It is a new year. . . . It is time to get . . . back on the camel” (31). Becoming friends with Theodore, then eventually something more, Violet becomes her true self with him, and begins to move on with her post Eleanor
Twenty-one years ago this month, on September 6, 1992, the decomposed body of Christopher McCandless was discovered by moose hunters just outside the northern boundary of Denali National Park. He had died inside a rusting bus that served as a makeshift shelter for trappers, dog mushers, and other backcountry visitors. Taped to the door was a note scrawled on a page torn from a novel by Nikolai
“Nothing, they never did. And heed my warning, a few years after my son disappeared, a wealthy attorney from Chicago, by the name of Wendell Gladfree, who was himself an adventur-ist, started petitioning the park fathers. Gladfree wanted them to release pertinent information about scores, I’m talking about scores of people who went missing in the park from 1920 to 1969. I met Gladfree myself and got to know him well. For a while, I thought he might be the one to crack the code of silence. And believe it or not, the fathers were court ordered to produce certain documents and things for
There were several survivors during the Holocaust and one of them was Eugene Black. His life was very hard and intense, but in the end it all turned out to be good for him. Are slaves better off free and homeless or owned but have a home? If slaves became free they would have no home and no food. If slaves were owned they would have little shelter and food, but they would still have enough to survive. Josiah Henson helped with this problem. He was an escaped slave. Josiah started a settlement in Canada for runaway slaves.Henson was a great leader to free and runaway slaves.

During the years between 1915 and 1970, some six million black southerners left their homelands in the South to move to the northern and western states looking for a better life.( The Reason why this i so significant to me is during this time period the great moving from one place to another was in effect and during this time period 6 million African Americans from the away from cities South to the cities of the North, Midwest and West from 1916 to 1970, affected a lot city based life in the United States. “Ask a psychopath what love is and he’ll go on and on, but he has never felt it himself…If you catch him lying, he’ll just shift gears and go on as though nothing had happened” (Goleman). Ted Bundy was one of the most famous psychopaths in the history of the country (Nordheimer). People say he was the perfect killer- handsome, intelligent, witty, and charming (Boynton 25). Bundy was the complete opposite of what people thought a serial killer looked like, so his victims did not fear him (“Ted Bundy”). Robert Keppel, an expert on serial killers, stated, “He taught us that a serial killer can appear to be absolutely normal, the guy next door (“Serial Killers and Mass Murderers”). At one point he was working for a suicide hotline; a friend
Florence Pennington sat silently as teardrops gathered in the corners of her eyes, she began collecting her thoughts as she prepared to write the letter she has been fearing for so long. She knew the day would come that she would have to write Ellie Sue a letter to explain the history of her life and how she has become the woman she is today, because of her declining health she knew she would not be able to share this with her in person. She wanted her to know their history and how she ached to be united with her again. Florence, an appreciative woman with matured brown crinkly skin, rough hands that insinuate the hardships she endured working the fields picking cotton, and sorrowful eyes that reflect fatigue. She has suffered immense changes

Now, as I stand upon the soon to break limb, I regret everything. Seeing the river below sent a stream of tingles down my spine. I’ve never been afraid of heights until now. The river, a disturbing mossy green, appeared cold to the touch. Even with it being Summer, the depths of the river looked like a cold shower I never wanted to take. I would, in a certain degree, rather get ratted out by one of the teacher’s inside than jump from this ungodly tree. From my peripheral vision, the two boys were hollering. Finny more than Gene. Consistently, Gene loved the thrill and excitement of danger. With every fiber of my being I praise God that the two boys didn’t dare invite anyone else to the impending doom of my death. Below, I hear the noise of a nearby toad. It’s mouth depicting a loud ribbit. Perhaps predicting my impediment that was soon to come. I glance towards Gene. Silently asking if this was an exceptional idea. He looked at me with a pointed look before proclaiming “you’ll be fine” and turning towards Finny “won’t she?”. Finn thought for a second “Notwithstanding, Kristen is a girl. For the same reason, she won’t! She’s invariably schlemiel.” Anger flashed in my eyes and by the looks of it Gene could tell. With a searing eyeroll and quick turn of my stature, I was
I called a taxi and asked the driver to speed to the Buchanan’s residence, but the Valley of Ashes was crowded with mourners so my arrival was delayed. Staring out the window I spotted Mr. Wilson continuing to sob over his beloved wife, Myrtle’s sudden death. If only others could know Daisy’s hand in the grief or Tom’s in trying to cover it up. I began to notice how fragile New York had become with the Old Money types contorting its natural order. I wondered how many more people had to die or be lied to in order for Tom and Daisy to feel safe. With my frustration beginning to intensify I barely waited for the taxi to stop before exiting. I rushed straight passed all of of Tom’s glittering servants to get to the kitchen. What I saws next made my heart drop and left me
In today’s world, murderers aren’t a surprising thing, as long as they are fictional. Plenty of TV shows and movies have plot lines around murder, but what about real life? As Scott Bonn states in his writing, of the approximate 15,000 murders in the United States, only 1 percent are serial killings, amounting to about 150 victims per year, with between 25 and 50 serial killers active at any given time. There are plenty of statistics on serial killers. 1 in 20 had the same three characteristics as a child: bedwetting, fire setting, and torturing animals. Animal torture is a common indicator that the child will be violent in the future. Also, over 30 percent of murderers use killing as a way for their sexual arousal (Stone). A murderer
