Theme is also applicable in the world today, as many are faced with severe challenges and ultimately discover means to overcome them. During the early 20th century, much of Europe was dominated by a harsh military dictatorship under the self- declared Chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler. As mass genocide against those of Jewish descent started, many feared that there would be no hope for the future. The bleak circumstances of the Holocaust proved difficult to change from within, however, those on the outside never stopped searching for solutions. As more and more innocent people were being killed, nations away from the war zone including Britain and the United States, fought back against the German Nazis. Over time, these nations took back control of Europe and put an end to deathly …show more content…
Regardless of the harsh realities they faced, many groups and organizations lead by people such as Martin Luther King Jr. and his Southern Christian Leadership Group started to rise up and peacefully protest against society’s faults against them. As they argued that everyone should be created equally regardless of race, gender, sexual identity etc., a new wave of acceptance and approval begin to sprout all through America. All of their progress would not have been made possible if they had given up and lost hope. Instead they stayed optimistic that there dark time will come to an end and stayed focused on the goal to accomplish that. Lastly, storied of hope and perseverance can be seen in the lives of actors and directors such as Steven Spielberg. Spielberg, upon completion of high school, was rejected from his “dream school” three times. Not knowing what he wanted to do he attended California State University. There he continued to struggle with his grades in addition to the growing amount of pressure by parents on what to do in

In the chapter of the year 1920, Morrison uses the notion of defilement during the trip down to Meridian a couple of times, using the characters Helene and Nel. The first notion of defilement was shown when Helene and Nel tried to get on the train. When they got on, they accidently got on the Whites Only section, making Helene look unintelligent, and tried to rush back to the Colored Only section. They’ve almost made it when they're approached by a white conductor, who barks at Helene, "What you think you doin' gal?" The word "gal" makes Helene's hands tremble. It's meant to make her feel small and inadequate, and it does. Helene is portrayed as a proper lady but cannot escape the reality of racism. After getting yelled at about getting on
Lessons Learned from Mistakes Made in the Past The Holocaust was a persecution movement during World War II located specifically in Germany. This was organized by what was referred to as the “German Nazi Party”, led by the dictator in which had taken over the government, Adolf Hitler. The consequences of the formation of a dictatorship effects how situations like this are prevented. Hitler’s actions, at the time, greatly affect how the ruling by dictatorship itself is prevented today.
France and Britain’s world power had diminished. This resulted in many of the French and British colonies challenging their rule in their weakened states. The Axis countries were taken over and occupied. These countries had difficult rules placed on them by the Allies. This led to hard times for these countries and limited their ability to rebuild power.
Ebonics, which stands for Ebony + Phonics is a new term that Linguistics use to describe Black Dialect or Black English or many of the other names that it has been given for more than 350 years. Ebonics is a "language" that is a combination of "proper English" and a combination of African languages. This combination pattern was formed on how certain words are pronounced such as, this and that, would be pronounced dis and dat in Ebonics. In most Ebonics words with the "Th." sound has an "D" sound. These are just some of the many patterns that were created when Africans were forced to learn the English language. History states that around 1619, during the slave trade, ships collected slaves not just from one nation but
First, while Western European boundaries were relatively stable throughout the twentieth century (with some minor exceptions following World War I), many Eastern European nations were either created in the aftermath of World War I or had their borders redrawn. Viewing this newness as suggestive of a lack of national legitimacy, Germans tended to see Eastern Europe as a more malleable and exploitable territory that could be used for German expansion after pushing out or annihilating Eastern European populations. Western Europe was not seen as potential living space for German expansion, so populations were generally offered more independence and autonomy than their Eastern European counterparts. As World War II unfolded, it was clear that the ease with which the Germans conquered Eastern European nations outstripped the ability of German officials and the Nazi Party to manage the populations of those nations efficiently, particularly since many were already unstable due to the tension between different ethnic communities.
During the 20th century in the early stages of World War II a horrendous Jewish genocide, the hHolocaust, that occurred in Western Europe, ended with the loss of 6 million Jews. One of the most important things that can be learned from the holocaust, is howhw everyone around the world reacted to the situation. In modern-day society, we witness tragic deaths of young teenagers that commit suicide, mainly due to being bullied, and no one stood up for them. Even today, there are still examples ethnic cleansings taking place today, like in areas such as Myanmar. Fear holds most people back from being who you they should be, or prevents them from doing what they want to do.
Women's fashion during this time period reflected off the liberation movement, the first world war, and the start of prohibition. Which opened a window for clothing designer resulting in innovative styles. Designers could now test new fabrics, colors, and textures.
During the 1930 and 40’s the Holocaust the largest genocide in history, killing more than 6 million people. Despite that Adolf Hitler, the German leader in from 193 was a major role in the killing, many other groups must hold responsibility. Along with Hitler, who was the ruler of germany for 15 years, the National Socialist German Workers Party are also responsible. They were the majority of the ones pulling the triggers, and furthered the Nazi’s Regime. Furthermore, our global community lacked actions against the holocaust, and even limited emigration of jews in the 1030’s. Also average germans must also hold blame, as many of the acted as bystander in the face of atrocity. Although Hitler is the face of the nazi regime, the National Socialist
Philosophers have theorized that the “atrocities of the Holocaust were not caused by psychopaths but ordinary people placed under extraordinary pressure to conform” (Shpancer par. 1). The Holocaust was one of the most terrible events in human history and the people under the Nazi leadership (1933-1945) were pressured into supporting the persecution of Jews and other enemies of the German Reich and the Fuhrer. Not all people who participated in the persecution of the Jews and other minority groups agreed with the ideology of the Nazi Party, but if the citizens of Germany or other Nazi-controlled territories did not accept the rules and regulations emplaced by the central government and military, they would face similar persecution. Since the conclusion of World War II, “we have learned that the pressure needed [may] not [have been] extraordinary at all […and] it may not [have been] experienced as pressure, but as relief” (Shpancer par. 1). With the conclusion of World War I, Germany saw a rapid decline in manufacturing that led to the German economy crashing and the rise of inflation after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. For many Germans, they saw hope for Germany in the rising Nazi Party. With the support of the people of Germany, the Nazis were able to rebuild infrastructure, the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), end inflation, and create millions of jobs in the
At the Turn of the 20th Century, there were many significant changes that had a huge impact on today’s society; things such as science, urban life, expansion of education, segregation, discrimination, and leisure. This really was the turn of the century. This is the period of time when life as we know it was changed forever. The biggest change in this era was the inventions and technological advances. A few of these advances were airmail, the Kodak camera, elevators, and skyscrapers.
The strive for hope and for the future of future generations were the hope for many. For example, Martin Luther king Jr. who delivered a speech stating his dreams. His dreams spoke of equality and freedom in many ways. He spoke for the majority of people, the African American community was tired of being pushed around and killed. A spark of outrage occurred during Emmett till’s murder occurred. It was the start of something new, the anger of many came forward during this lost. Emmett till was a young African American boy who went to visit his family in Mississippi, he told his friends that he had a white girlfriend from where he was from which was Illinois. Supposedly Emmett till flirted with white women at a convenience store and was later hanged. His killers were put on trial and were declared innocent, the reason for killing was their racist beliefs. Due to his death, many people stood up and fought for the injustice caused for Emmet. This shows a spark of the determination that the people had n wanting justice. Due to his death, many things started to change and many laws were being challenged in courtrooms. Another example would be the Montgomery bus boycott that occurred due to people’s determination in wanting more for desegregation for even in buses. Rosa parks started the spark that would cause people to be determined in wanting integrated buses. The busboy ott
The 1920s were a time of optimism for many Americans. Most remember the era as the “Roaring Twenties”, a term that calls up images of listening to jazz in Harlem Nightclubs, happy people dancing the famous Charleston, or people piling into inexpensive Model T Fords for joy rides around the city. People enjoyed the rapid advances in medicine, a thriving economy, and many technological conveniences in their lives. However, despite all of the bright spots during the 1920s there were several dark spots as well. The dark spots were a result of conflicting parties either promoting change or resisting change.

The Canterbury Tales are a collection of literature that depicts the structure of society in the fourteenth century and the corruptness behind it. In this collection, Chaucer becomes a social commentator by communicating his beliefs on many issues happening in his age through his characters. Although Chaucer does not directly state these beliefs verbally, he allows the actions of the characters in his collections to speak for themselves. As one reads these collections, readers can hint that Chaucer knew or came in contact with everyone in these tales.
