The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan plays around the theme heroism in which the characters take roles of being the hero in their own distinct ways. Some continue to play the hero because of their morals and good character. Others become deemed to evil due to the horrible experiences they face. In the film The Dark Night, Batman takes the primary role of the hero because he continuously strives to achieve the well being of the city, while the joker chooses to cause havoc among the people of Arkham city.
When it comes to change, this is where batman and the joker differ. Batman tries to use a more society-based way to change arkham city. The main reason why Bruce Wayne chose to be batman was so that the people of Arkham city never have to endure any of the pain he went through as a child. His parents died at a very young age to the hands of criminals. He not only wants to avenge his parents death by dressing up as a vigilante, but also show the people of Gotham to stand up to criminals. The only person that causes trouble for the batman is the joker. In a social experiment made by the joker, two boats, both having detonators, are faced with the option of blowing the other up to better the chances of survival for those on board, while the joker waits for either boat to explode. Neither ships blew up and both passed this test of humanity. But batman had this to say. “ What were you trying to prove, that deep down, everyones as ugly as you? You are alone.” ( Dark
Mental Strength is the most valuable strength in a survival situation because it can not be lost or taken away from someone. According to Caroline Alexander’s article “The Voyage of the James Caird” the crew of the James Caird needed mental strength to survive the dangerous journey. In the article she writes “Worsley, despite the rank discomfort, was in his element. He was conscious of being in the midst of a great adventure---which had been his life’s ambition”(Alexander 185). Here it is shown that despite the physical challenges Worsley was still able to maintain his mental strength which kept him going. Similar to the crew of the James Caird Sherpas that climb Mt. Everest to transport goods also need mental strength to make it through their job. In the article “The Value of the Sherpa Life” by Grayson Schaffer it states “And perhaps most significantly, the amount of time that Sherpas spend making laps through the deadly Khumbu Icefall and up the Lhotse Face”(Schaffer 218). Schaffer explains that despite the physically grueling laps their mental strength which kept them going was maintained. Similar to the Sherpas of Mt. Everest and the crew of the James Caird in Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night he needed mental strength to survive in the concentration camps of World War II. In the book it says “An icy wind was blowing violently. But we marched without faltering”(Wiesel 85). Shown here is that even when the physical conditions were anything but pleasant Eliezer
Everyone knows what it is like to have a day that completely drains them. One comes home after a long, tough day and just wants to collapse at the door. Life is full of adjunct things that complicate day to day things, and more than anything, make life a pain in the neck. These little specks of adversity are like the an ice sculptors chisel and hammer. They can change a person and make them into something amazing, or they can cause them to shatter. Kevin Conroy said that, “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” Adversity is a part of everyone’s life in some way. How do the books Night by Elie Wiesel and tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom show adversity in the lives
Humanity is an essential part in Night. Abundant of humanity were written in this book. Mostly, the book was written by two sides. One is instinctive, which describes how crazy characters were dazzled by desire. For instance, the desire of food, warmness and better living condition. However, a few people could not get through those difficulties, neither could Eliezer’s father. Another aspect is sensual, she wrote the relationship between Eliezer and his family, sometime his friends also, such as how they helped each other out.
In a movie where good and evil are divided by a very thin line, the Dark Knight rises up to fight against injustice and corruption in Gotham City. An action sequel to the original Batman Begins, this installment is a lot darker filled with more explosion, twists, and suspense. For the first time, a comic has been integrated into the issues of the real world. With the help of District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Gordon, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining mob members and clean the streets of Gotham for good. Their success is only short-lived when they encounter the Joker, a mysterious mastermind who is out to prove that nobility cannot hold in a world of anarchy.
One of the main themes throughout the book is the title of the book “Night”. There are references from Eliezer about night during the book, which are full of symbolism. The word “night” is used repeatedly, and Eliezer recounts every dusk, night and dawn through the entire book. For instance, Night could be a metaphor for the Holocaust—submerge the family and thousands of Jewish families in the darkness and misery of the concentration camps.

Batman: The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan is non-stop action thriller that continually did the unexpected. The film is based off of the original Batman comic book but additionally changes the perception of the everyday world as good to naturally bad. Throughout the movie, Batman stands for honesty and goodness while the Joker is a symbolism of chaos and evil. Both sides are forced to make quick-witted decisions in order to stop the opposing vigilante from doing his desired work. The citizens of Gotham are put in the heart of this circumstance and feel obligated to go against their values to stop the chaos. Numerous people habitually pursue their dreams and values but often become blinded from their
There are two main characters that the storyline revolves around, Batman and the Joker. Batman serves as the guardian of Gotham City. The Joker, however, stands as the villain who strives to create a world of chaos. Hobbes’ theory on state of nature says that society is the sole reason that humans act civilized. Hobbes’ believes in the “state of war,”, which is a way of life that is proven to be brutal and short. The Joker’s main goal is to prove that people have the natural capability to do evil. While he attempts to prove this throughout his many twisted plans, he is driven to eliminate the one thing that keeps Gotham City from turning hopeless and chaotic, Batman. Without its protector, Gotham City would soon turn to a “state of war.” Hobbes’ also says, “Fear makes natural man want to escape the
By them faking Batman they could have gotten themselves injured. In the movie, he explains how he does not want people dressing up as him because it is too dangerous and that is not the point he wanted to make when he created his persona. If a crime had been committed Batman would be there and save the people who were getting affected by the crime. One thing he believed in was people do have good in them, which was proven correct at the end of the movie ultimately. The Joker wanted to reveal the Dark Knight and ended up playing a catch and mouse game with him. The Joker caused chaos in Chicago which made things harder for Batman. and made people leave through a ferry. The joker has placed a bomb on both boats, which one is full of prisoners and the second boat is accompanied will innocent civilians. He gets on the P.A. system and tells both boats there are bombs and only one ferry can survive. Society on both boats went back and forth on pushing the button to blow the other boat up. Both boats were left at an ultimatum and the utilitarians belief is introduced. People had to choose what is in the better interest for the greater good. The ferry full of civilians
The Joker, is a purposeless criminal. He will destroy anything, or anyone who gets in his way, just to accomplish his goal, to break Batman's personal rules, to never kill or harm anyone, but to save Gotham City from danger and
The world we live in today—a world occupied by increasing misanthropists—continues growing into, not a world of happiness and excitement, but a world of despair. In regards to despair, the frequency of people overlooking the optimism of life, freedom, and the desire to simply be content is becoming a common trend. In The Dark Knight, The Joker, being the antagonist, is depicted as a malicious, unpredictable genius—but who is he really? By completely eluding the above statements, The Joker proves to be understanding of the growing despair in the world—he takes his wit and twists pessimism into humor and absurdity in relation to his nihilistic views. Although The Joker is depicted simply as a sociopathic criminal, he is much more—not only by allowing his foil character, Batman—both equally intelligent and dangerous—to influence his behavior by relying on each other, but by shaping the future outlook on society with
The Dark Knight (2008), directed by Christopher Nolan, demonstrates the idea of good versus evil. Batman is known as the protagonist, and Joker is known as the ultimate villain. The representation of crime in the film is seen from the actions of both characters. The film essentially depicts the act of deviance meaning, “behaviour that violates social norms, including laws”. In normality the government would have the greatest amount of power, but in the Gotham city, power is complex. There is minimal structure of law and order in Gotham city due to powerful people like Batman and the Joker. Citizens of Gotham city can no longer fight for themselves in a world filled with supernatural powers. Therefore, the only hope that citizens have rest in the hands of Batman. Although Batman attempts to save Gotham city from Joker’s criminal intentions. Batman, however, also plays a role in deviant activity while attempting to catch the Joker. Realistically, Batman violates the moral code due to destructive behaviour, and putting the lives of citizens at harm. He does not care for social norms, nor whether his acts are of legality. He is devoted to combat organized crime with Harvey Dent, a district attorney in Gotham city. Batman is in fact, the definition of crime, he understands but does not abide to individual rights and social contracts which make up the rule of law. In addition, the man behind Batman, Bruce Wayne also portrays a form of deviance by disguising himself as Batman.
When the word "hero" is spoken, everyone has different thoughts. Some will think of super powers like flying and saving people from villains; while others have a certain person they know or have heard of that come to mind who have done something to make a difference in the lives of others but who is a hero to you? To answer this question you must first ask yourself what a hero is; what comes to your mind when someone says the word. When I am confronted with these questions I always have the same thoughts; smart, strong will power, and someone who stands up for what they believe is right.
The Dark Knight(2008) is directed by Christopher Nolan and the cinematographer is Wally Pfister . The lead actors are Christian Bale (Batman), Heath Ledger (Joker), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent), and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel). This film is about the Joker wants to get Batman, but until then the Joker keeps causing chaos until the people or Batman turns himself in. Overall, the movie was enjoyable.
Furthermore, while the batman's actions seem noble and heroic; his means of attaining this dream of a just and uncorrupt Gotham was always twisted. Bruce is an excellent example of mealy-mouthedness, speaking one way but having contradicting actions; devious and insincere. But is it entirely? He fights against evil, fights against infamy with his own sense of integrity. Does that make him the villain himself? It’s the controversy surrounding this HERO, is he selfless and trying achieve goodness? Or selfish enough to put any matter of lives at risk to end one evil? I’m willing to bet the latter.
