The market for environmentally friendly cars or “green cars” in the United States has slowly been growing over the years. Many people are pushing for cars that produce fewer emissions and use renewable resources as fuel. There are many cars already for sale that do produce fewer emissions and run off some renewable energy. Buying an environmentally friendly car is better for your wallet and much better for the environment. Environmentally friendly cars are cars that make an effort to be powered by renewable sources and produce few to no harmful emissions. An example would be the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. A hybrid is a car that gets power from gasoline engines and electric motors. They also use technologies that help to improve fuel …show more content…
Producing it from these sources is the problem. The dominant source of hydrogen in the United States at this time is steam reforming natural gas. This means that we are using up a nonrenewable energy to create a renewable energy and is also producing carbon dioxide emissions during production. It is also very low in volume but very high in energy for its weight causing a storage and transportation problem (U.S Department of Energy). Currently, the market for hydrogen from natural gas is $100 billion. This market involves expensive manufacturing and high carbon dioxide emissions (Hydrogen; Breakthrough in Hydrogen Fuel, 2013). Research for hydrogen production is very promising. Percival Zhang, an associate professor of biological systems engineering in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Engineering, made a breakthrough in hydrogen production technology. He did so using the second most prevalent sugar found in plants. He found a method that uses lower temperatures and produces a high volume of hydrogen. This method results in a net energy gain of more than 100 percent (Hydrogen; Breakthrough in Hydrogen Fuel, 2013). Hydrogen cars are currently being produced, but the cost of these cars is much more than the average American can afford. For example, the Hydrogen Shelby Cobra starts at $150,000. The Cobra holds four gallons and can get 25 miles to the gallon. This is a major problem, especially due to

Bush introduced funding and advocated for hydrogen vehicles in America. The administration recognized that its pollution-free effects on the environment was what the world needed in order to achieve a safer environment. However, months following the introduction of hydrogen fuel the research of hydrogen vehicles was cut due to its relation to the electric car. The hydrogen vehicle and electric car have been in continuous contention as to which is the more positive technological solution to the environmental problem. The electric car triumphed over the hydrogen car, which abolished hydrogen
Proponents of a world-scale hydrogen economy argue that hydrogen can be an environmentally cleaner source of energy to end-users, particularly in transportation applications, without the release of pollutants like particulate matter and carbon dioxide. However hydrogen continues to have technical obstacles associated with it, including storage issues, due to the fact that hydrogen has a high energy density by weight, but has a low energy density by volume when not highly compressed or liquefied.
The Ku Klux Klan originated in the South and spread across the nation; during the early twentieth century, the KKK had approximately four million members throughout the country. Their members occupied many political influences in some states such as Oregon, Indiana, and Colorado. In the summer of 1868, Klan achieved part of their goal which was to defeat Southern Blacks; but didn’t succeed that well in carrying out their social aim during the reconstruction era, however; they later spread throughout Georgia. Then again, a Georgia Republican organizer was killed on March 31st, 1868; and because of his death, KKK organized terrorist crime became noticeable; to the extent that their violent actions spread across Georgia’s Black Belt, and the state
A second major problem with the plan is not easy to see at first. You must look much closer at what types of research is being done. There are two ways that hydrogen fuel cells can be made. One is by a reaction with oxygen. These cells are about 70% efficient and the only emissions are water vapor. The second way it by using oil or coal to make the cells. These cells are about 33% efficient and release harmful emissions into the atmosphere (Abelson 1469). I feel that we should fund research into using oxygen as opposed to fossil fuels when making hydrogen
The golden age of Greece is the most known city during this time period was the rivals of Athens and Sparta and the question is why were Sparta and Athens rivals? it’s the strengths of the two societies that brings the ancient world to its heights in art, two of the Greeks states was a thirst for more territory and power. Jealousy brings about the Peloponnesian wars that lasted 30 years and left Sparta and Athens mere shadows of their former selves. In the 8th century with the writing of the works of Homer, the Iliad an ethnic identity for the Greeks. The differences between Athens and Sparta was that Spartans was founded by Lycurgus around 800 BC that was a militaristic society and they were controlled by Peloponnese, the primary rivals of
As you go throughout your day, you use energy many times. Turning on the lights, using the toaster, taking the bus to school, all examples of using energy. Slowly, the fossil fuels that we are burning to get this energy are harming the environment. Hydrogen energy and biofuels would bring many benefits to Long Beach,
There has been lots of controversy on whether hybrid vehicles are environmentally better than gas vehicles. In this new age of technology and vast growth of human population, there would have to be ways to make driving environmentally healthy considering the fact that millions of people drive(Goffman, “Electric Car Batteries Could Provide Energy for the Smart Grid”). Hybrid cars use clean electric , while gas powered cars use harmful polluting fossil fuels. For the most part, to make sure that this world becomes cleaner, hybrid cars will definitely need to be used in the future. Hybrid cars are environmentally better than gas cars.
Electric cars may not be as environmentally friendly as society portrays them to be. Forbes.com states that electric cars tend to be just as polluting to the environment as traditional gas powered cars. In order to transfer energy to the charging station for the cars, the factory that makes the energy must burn carbon in order to power the charging station. The charging stations are what produce the pollution, not the vehicle. Although there has been a push for alternative energy in automotive production, electric cars are just as contaminating to the atmosphere as traditional gas-powered cars.
Even Stanley Meyer, the most renowned innovator of hydrogen technology, failed to penetrate the market with his revolutionary work. Perhaps Joseph Romm’s prediction that hydrogen energy will still have little place in the market by the year 2030 is accurate. Perhaps, in spite of its potential benefits to society, this technology simply faces too much opposition to be made publicly known and utilized. Perhaps my grandfather was a wiser man to keep his findings to himself. Perhaps, however, hydrogen still has a chance. In spite of Stanley Meyer’s tragic death, and the discontinuation of his plans, his work and findings were most definitely not in vain. Roughly ten years after Meyer’s death, all of the patents and property rights to his work had
The natural environment such as our main natural resource for fueling our vehicles, oil, has aided in the increased sales of the Toyota Prius. Since gas prices increased in 2008, a fuel efficient car such as the Prius is economically and environmentally friendly. Toyota created the hybrid that “combines a gas engine with an electric motor” using less gas than the usual sedan. (Kotler & Armstrong, Principles of Marketing, 2010)
As our immigration rate is at an almost all-time high, there are many different cultures in the United States. The different cultures often assimilate with each other and as a country, we must learn about each other. Most colleges have study-abroad programs and this teaches young adults the importances of different cultures. The students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a culture that is different than their own. The Unites States is made up of different races from all different places. During some point in a person's life, they will meet someone of another culture. In a single neighborhood, there are people from different backgrounds. This allows children to interact with different cultures. The United States of America is made
Some people have also adopted the hybrid car trend, although many people think hybrid cars help the environment as well. Hybrid cars still uses some form of a gasoline when it is being used, thus creating carbon dioxide emissions. Whereas, the electric vehicle produces no emissions.
For the past three decades Oil dominates the agenda of political discussion. With scares over price volatility, sizes of reserves, international imports and least of which are the environmental impacts due to carbon dioxide and other emissions. Various speculations and educated guesses place our total depletion of crude oil within the next 50 years and there is a general consensus between environmentalists that we steer toward a hydrogen transportation system given the projected work and nonexistent carbon dioxide emissions (Environmental Technologies class lecture, Santa Clara University). However many barriers stand in the way of attaining such a goal, most of which pertaining
On a volumetric basis, the energy density of hydrogen is very low under ambient conditions. This presents greater transportation and storage hurdles than for liquid fuels. Storage systems being developed include compressed hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and physical or chemical bonding between hydrogen and a storage material (for example, metal hydrides). The ability to create hydrogen from a variety of resources and its
