The founders of CNN and Apple, Brad Pit, Megan Fox and Barack Obama all have one thing in common. It’s one of the safest substances known to man and is completely natural. The substance has many medical advantages. It is a plant and more than a third of all Australians ages over 22 have used it at least once and approximately 300,000 people will use it today. That’s right it’s Cannabis and yet it is illegal in every state apart from Canberra. Now I can safely say you all have your own opinion on Cannabis and why is should not be legalized. However your opinion is irrelevant if you go on what other people say about it and not base it on facts. So that’s why I’m here to inform you about the positives that Cannabis use has.
First off I want

In fact a more recent study done with mice found a 40% increase in brain cells after the use of cannabis.
At this point I hope you’re starting to see that cannabis isn’t nearly half as bad as everybody makes it out to be. Just to further add to this it is impossible to overdose on cannabis. This is because the cannabis is 100% natural. The only possible way to over dose is if you consume close to ¾ of a ton (700kg) in less than 15 minutes which is physically impossible. It is kind of ironic that there is a much higher chance of you dying from water than cannabis.
A lot of people see cannabis as a gateway drug. As I work with drug affected people on a daily basis many people say that the first drug they ever used was cannabis, which by its self is harmless and non-addictive. However after a while of using cannabis by itself, people look for ways to get more of a high and start to use laced cannabis. Laced cannabis is marijuana with another drug mixed in which is commonly ice or cocaine. After the experience with laced cannabis users may become addicted to the other drug which is incorporated with it. This is the point where user can experiment with more serious drugs such as ice, cocaine, ecstasy and LSD. This is where people get the assumption that cannabis is addictive and dangerous.
Apart from the reasons I have already stated cannabis is a very effective method of treating a variety of
Bill Hicks once said, “Why is marijuana against the law? It grows naturally upon our planet. Doesn’t the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit...unnatural?” Why is it illegal when it could be used for so much more other than just getting high? When really it actually comes with so many more benefits. In the article, “The Case for Legalizing Cannabis” the author Joe Cressy utilizes simple diction, common sense, and intimidating facts proving his point that the war on drugs is a waste of money and is setting Canadian health care back.
Legalising marijuana would have a detrimental impact on our future generations and result in more people exploitation the dangerous drug. This increase in users would be a threat to the safety of Australian citizens like you and I who are not under the influence and have negative impacts on Australia’s health. Merely considering cannabis usage not to be a forbidden transgression is highlighting how ignorant and misguided the minority of individuals who support authorising this malicious substance are.
One argument is that marijuana could never be a suitable medicine because of the damage that can occur from smoking the plant. The Institute of Medicine addressed this argument in the report, “Marijuana and Medicine,” "Marijuana is not a completely benign substance. It is a powerful drug with a variety of effects. However, except for the harm associated with smoking, the adverse effects of marijuana use are within the range tolerated for other medications. Thus, the safety issues associated with marijuana do not preclude some medical uses."(126). Although the Institute of Medicine have shown through studies that the benefits from marijuana out-weigh the negative aspect of smoking the plant as a delivery system, there are many other types of delivery systems available to eliminate the need to smoke the plant. Some of which include digesting the plant. Also extracting the THC and inhaling the vapors released when heated to boiling temperature. Marijuana has also been used to make many medications, including: Marinal, Cannibinor, Naboline, and Sativex. These medications were made from extracted THC or synthetic THC.(MedicalMarijuana.ProCon.org)
marijuana is not considered as dangerous as other substances. In fact some states are even
Susan Glaspell has been recognized by many feminists as one of the best authors of feminist short plays that show the consequences of oppressing a woman. Short plays such as “Trifles”, “Women’s Honor”,and “A Jury of Her Peers” portras the entrapment of women in a patriarchal society. The major theme sewn throughout “Trifles” is men having power over women while at the same time showing the women’s higher intellectual capacity. Trifles illustrates two women, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, gathering the belongings of Minnie Wright, a neighbor that is in jail for murdering her husband.
Not only are the toxic levels of alcohol much greater than those of marijuana, but the consequences of drinking long-term are far more damaging as well. Next to smoking tobacco and being overweight, drinking alcohol is the third leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Not including all the accidents and homicides that are attributed to the use of alcohol, the number of people that suffered alcohol induced deaths was 20,687 in 2003 alone (Foland). Those who choose to drink face the risk of many different health conditions, including some cancers, liver cirrhosis, liver disease, and heart disease---not to mention the risk of physical dependency (“Alcohol vs. Marijuana”). The effects on the brain are just as detrimental. In contrast to the old myth that drinking alcohol kills brain cells, recent studies have shown that instead it prevents new cells from being made. This process of making new cells, called neurogenesis, was found to be decreased by over fifty percent in abusers of alcohol. Marijuana seems to have the opposite effect. The same study showed that the use of marijuana actually increased neurogenesis, thus increasing the making of new brain cells (Wenk). Recent studies
The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne stands as one of the most famous works in the history of American literature. Set in Puritan Boston during the mid-1600’s, the renowned tale presents the story of a young, beautiful woman, Hester Prynne, who commits adultery against her husband, Roger Chillingworth, who was presumed dead. Due to her pregnancy, Hester is forced to admit her sin. After giving birth to a daughter, named Pearl, Hester is forced to stand on a scaffold in the center of town for three hours and endure heckling from the townspeople. Furthermore, she must wear a scarlet letter “A” that stands for “Adulteress” for the rest of her life. In the events to follow each major character shows glimpses of an evil nature that drives their stories. In The Scarlet Letter author Nathaniel Hawthorne weaves the theme of evil into the lives of Roger Chillingworth, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Pearl Prynne.
According to a report put out by the British Police Foundation in March 2000, cannabis has been shown to produce less harmful effects than its other legal counterparts such as alcohol and tobacco. This kind of information calls into sharper focus the question on the minds of many as to why such a plant that is not only less harmful than legal drugs but has significant health benefits has remained illegal.
Greek philosophers have had a great impact on the world. Emphasizing on rhetorical, they were able to persuade people to agree with their thoughts or ideas. Greek philosophers debated questions that are still pondered today and tried to find a reasonable answer to these questions. Greek philosophers are remembered for their wisdom and insight that helped shape the world. Their ideas were used to help set up governments and find inner happiness.
Everyone has an opinion on the reoccurring subject of cannabis legalization. Some people are against cannabis just because it is against the law. While others believe cannabis usage goes along with free will and that the government has no right to interfere. Some say marijuana is a gateway drug, leading to the use of more serious drugs. Still, a percentage of the population believes hemp is okay and legal growing in the U.S. could benefit our economy, with an abundance of uses that would be a better choice for the environment and our health, than other options we currently seek. There are many reasons that people want cannabis legalized, and many fears for which they don’t. Whatever the opinion, people need to
Marijuana is a gateway drug. A gateway drug, such as marijuana, is a drug that leads people to do more harmful drugs such as cocaine or heroine. The American Council for Education did a recent study showing that people who smoke marijuana are 85 times more likely to use other drugs compared to people who do not smoke marijuana. According to Andrew Cox, a licensed addiction counselor , “Most of the people that we see in drug court started out with marijuana… anywhere from 12 to 14 years of age, and gradually progressed to other kinds of
Many people who develop addictions with dangerous drugs such as heroin and cocaine have started somewhere smaller. Marijuana is a common street drug and there is lots of controversy around it. There are several arguments about its use, and one of them is whether it is a gateway drug.
According to the National Academy of Sciences recent study, the main ingredient in marijuana called tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as THC) had been proven to decrease the size of brain capacity. In their records of data they had stated “...researchers looked at 48 adults who used the drug at least three times a day, for an average of eight or nine years, and 62 people who didn't use marijuana. It turned out that the people who had been smoking pot daily for at least four years had a smaller volume of gray matter in a brain region called the orbitofrontal cortex, which previous research had linked to addiction”(1). As a result in my research I have found that a prolonged usage of medical cannabis massively affects your brain size and learning capacity
One of the constant debates about whether or not marijuana should be legal or not is is it relatively safe. The herbal plant marijuana, individuals have “cultivated and consumed the flowering tops of the female cannabis plant since virtually the beginning of recorded history. Cannabis-based textiles dating to 7,000 BC have been recovered in northern China and the plant's use as a medicinal and euphoric agent date back nearly as far” (Armentano 1). Marijuana has been proven to “have a relatively unique safe record, particularly when compared to other therapeutically active substance” (Armentano 1). Unlike alcohol and any other drug, individuals cannot by physically addicted to marijuana or have an overdose on marijuana. When an individual is
When looking at the issue of legalising recreational marijuana, it is clearly visible to many that there are positives and negatives to this issue. Regarding, the claim and counterclaim of recreational marijuana, it has been proven that it doesn’t lead to more dangerous drugs. The reason for recreational marijuana being legalized slowly in many states is because of it not being harmful to the body like many legal substances. Altogether, legalising recreational marijuana would allow people to be safer, and instead of putting harmful substances in their body that will hurt them in the long
