In his translation of Black Skin, White Masks, Richard writes that the white man is considered superior because he is the inventor of technology. He has invented the compass and gunpowder. The Negro has never known even how to subdue electricity or steam. He has neither explored the seas nor the sky. They only know all the nooks of crannies of the country of suffering.
