Domestic Violence is a common pattern of aggressive behavior inside the family, typically between intimate partners. This type of violence includes not only physical abuse but also sexual abuse, psychological/emotional abuse, and financial abuse. According to the CDC "on average, 20 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States. Over the course of a year, that equals more than 10 million women and men"( "The National"). In this paper, I will discuss the warning signs of abuse, how the abuser justifies his actions, why victims stay in abusive relationships, and how the victims can protect themselves. The first step is to recognize the warning signs of abuse. There are a lot of signs of abuse like being humiliated in public, being called names like stupid or bitch, being controlled in every way or being forced to have sex etc. Abusers don 't show the same violent behavior due to the fact that every relationship and person is different. However, there is one thing that all abusers share and that is the need to impose their control over their victims, this is the main purpose of domestic violence.It is also common for abuse to escalate very slowly, making it difficult for the victim to become aware of how severe it has become, even though it is patently obvious to those around him or her.
