World War II was one of the most powerful wars the world has ever had. It was also one of the largest conflicts there has ever been. It was known as a “world war” because nearly every country in the world was involved. There were many tragic and chilling events throughout the war that were very significant. The war was known as one of the most disastrous wars of all time because of what the nations put each other through. Many innocent lives were taken during this mournful war. About 50 million troops lost their lives fighting in the war. In Nazi Germany nearly 9,000,000 troops were killed. 42,000,000 troops were killed in the Soviet Union. 4,000,000 were killed in China and 3,000,000 were killed in Japan. Adolf Hitler came into power over Germany in 1933, after fighting in World War I. Under his brilliant leadership, he was able to break Germany out of Isolation with other countries. Adolf Hitler was determined to have command and authority over all of Europe. “In September of 1939, Adolf Hitler, who was over Germany, successfully invaded Poland causing Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany.” On June 10,1940, Italy joined the war because they wanted to defeat France. Japan joined the war because they wanted to expand in Asia and was determined to take their land. The United States had produced resources such as oil for the Japanese. When Japan and China were at war with each other, the United States did not support Japan and prohibited any further resources from them. Because of this act, the Japanese grew hatred toward the United States and decided to get revenge. December 7,1941, would go down in United States history as one of the most tragic events to happen to them. Japan had bombed the United States naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, killing and injuring over 3,500. The bombing destroyed a lot of the United States aircraft and destroyed all of their resources. This mournful event caused the United States to enter the war a year after. They were ready to fight. France reached out to Germany by signing an armistice that would hope create peace. The Armistice divided France into two parts,
World War II was one of the most significant wars in history. It is also the deadliest with a death toll of, approximately, 56.4 million; almost half of which were Soviet fatalities. Furthermore, the amount of people who met their demise during the time of this war is absolutely devastating. World War II could have been avoided if there was better cooperation and communication across the globe.
World War II-- also known as The Holocaust / The Genocide -- was the world 's second 'Great War '. World War II was much more larger in scale and more longer in duration. World War I had only lasted for four years, while World War II had lasted for six years. I find it quite interesting that contrary to popular belief; the United States did not enter World War II until 2 years after the genesis of the conflict. It was only in 1941, when the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor that the United States had entered the war. World War II started in 1939 due to Germany performing an unprovoked attack on Poland. Surprisingly, only a few months later after Germany invaded Poland; the whole European continent was at war. In 1939, the United States was not ready to go to war. In the early 20th century, the United States Army only ranked 39th in the world. Many Americans believed that the United States could not handle another global conflict right after the Great Depression. Although the United States was not 'officially ' part of the war at that time, that did not stop the United States from becoming 'unofficially ' involved.
World War II, intensified tensions between two of the strongest countries in the 1940s, the United States of America and Japan. On December 7,1941, Japanese planes and submarines attacked the American Naval base at pearl harbor, one of America’s largest bases and the largest base in the Pacific Ocean. The attack caused serious damage to the base, taking out America’s strongest battleships, killing thousands of people, and destroying hundreds of planes. America officially enters World War II. The Battle of Midway was a crucial battle in a long line of other battles fought for dominance in the Pacific Ocean. The Battle of Midway was a turning point in World War II. It was the first decisive American victory and provided a morale boost for American troops after the Pearl Harbor attack.
The Tenth’s triumphs in Italy were demonstrative of the value of specialized forces. Their success both was very influential in the events of World War II and in proving the value of specialized forces. Once the government saw how effective the focused training of this division was, they realized that a new era had begun. The Tenth Mountain Division started the period of special forces.
After World War I legacy the Great Depression brought isolationism. The best work produced by President Roosevelt was the Four Freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. President Roosevelt was the leader of the Allies, he used this statement as part of his Allies aim. The Soviet Union joined the Allies after being invaded by Germany. Millions of art were sold and reprinted as it publicizes the Four Freedom in 1943. In 1940s after tension between the United States and Japan over East Asia, on December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. There was no warning of this attack happening as a result United States declared war on Japan. The Good neighbors policy was, brought into place by President Roosevelt and Hoover in 1930s. This was a policy that would help the relationship between Latin American countries and the Unites States. The good neighbors policy would not only help the Latin countries but also the United States with trade and military.
As the Allies were eager for the war in Europe to be over, they pursued a campaign of bombings. This was especially common in the industrial centers within German borders. Although the military leaders reiterated that the loss of live incurred due to the bombings and subsequent firestorms was within the necessities of war, it was still an unpopular strategy in the minds of many in western society.
to attack the United States at Pearl Harbor. This attack greatly weakened and crippled the
Helga Arthur was born January 16,1943 right in the middle of the second World War II in Berlin Germany. When I was interviewing Helga she discussed how her parents were originally from Estonia and had lost everything which lead them to fled to Germany. But then Germany became unsafe when her father hear the communist were moving in and that there was the potential for Germany to be divided between the U.S , Britain and Russian. So Helga’s father got them forged german red cross papers and they escaped in the middle of the night through farm lands and keep going in the directions of where the Americans were. There was a tremendous amount of hunger along the way and the farmers that didn 't really want to help the people escaping the city because they did not want to get in trouble but Helga informed me that they could not say no to a hunger child so her parents and her got sheltering along their journey. After a perilous trip they mange to get themselves to Hesse Germany where there was a big American base. Helga mentioned at this time that her parents were both university educated and spoke multiple languages which was very good because her father ended up going to work for the American army and they hired him because he spoke English, Russian, Estonian, German, and a little bit of French which allowed him to support his family. The American soldiers were also extremely good to Helga’s family in terms of her father was able to bring home extra food at night which
2. Originally, America tried to stay neutral in the war. However, on December 7th, 1941, Japan’s forces bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, forcing our country to take side. The next day, President Roosevelt declared war on Japan.
On December 7, 1941, the fate of the United States of America changed forever. At the time, the global conflict known as World War 2 had been brutally raging on for over two years. American forces had managed to stay out of the war. However, when the Japanese bombed the naval base in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, the Americans could no longer hold out. On December 7, 1941, the United States of America entered WWII (“Origins of the Normandy Landing”).
As dawn broke on a Sunday morning of December 7, 1941 on the Hawaiian island of Oahu where Pearl Harbor was home to a giant US Navy and Army. There were more than one hundred warships which included eight massive battleships. The US was suffering from the Great Depression, which made Americans think that they would stay out of World War II. As tensions grew between Japan and America, American sailors and airmen were training just in case the US were to join World War II. Americans had not realized that Japan and America were becoming enemies because the main enemy was Adolf Hitler; his goal was to conquer all the democracies of Europe. In 1940, Netherlands and France fell, leaving England to stand alone against the Germans. President Franklin Roosevelt shipped arms, tanks, and planes to help the British but not America soldiers. June of 1940, Japan invaded Vietnam and Cambodia, Roosevelt then took action. He moved the US Pacific Fleet from California to Pearl Harbor to stand guard in the Pacific against further Japanese advances. Three hundred Japanese bombers and fighters were launched in two waves before and after dawn. Back in Hawaii everyone was following their normal duties, thinking that the waves of bombers were US pilots doing drills. The planes kept coming directly over the harbor lower than usual. Minutes later, bombs fell. (Demuth 1-5)

Of all the years the human race has occupied this planet, we have not come face to face with many events that could bring so many people together while simultaneously tearing them apart-- World War II is one of those events. While the beginning is not set in stone, many will argue that the war all started with the unwarranted German attack on Poland in September of 1939. As tensions rose between countries, conflict began to swell. Over 20 countries were involved, and alliances were established. The war was fought between two major alliances; the Allied powers and the Axis powers. The Allied powers consisted of the following major countries: France, Great Britain, Russia, and the United States. The Axis powers were Italy, Japan, and Germany. World War II involved more nations, cost more money, and killed more people than any war before its time.
The Battle of Midway was one of the most important naval battles of WWII. This three day offensive between June 4th and 7th of 1942 inflicted irreparable damage on the Japanese fleet. The Japanese sought to eliminate the America as a strategic power in the Pacific, thereby giving Japan a free lane to establish a greater dominance on the Pacific hemisphere. The plan was faulty from the start due to American code breakers who were able to decipher the date and location of the attack, forewarning the U.S. Navy to set up its own ambush. After midway and the lost of the Soloman Islands, Japans shipbuilding and pilot training programs were unable to keep pace in replacing their losses while the U.S steadily increased its output in both areas due to the increased women labor force.
World War II is the name commonly given to the global conflict of 1939-1945. It is said to be the greatest and most destructive war in world history. The World War II military operations were conducted primarily in Europe but also in Asia, Africa, and the far islands of the Pacific as well.
