The term New Frontier was used by liberal, Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kennedy in his acceptance speech. Kennedy entered office with the goal to get rid of Americas poverty, and to raise America’s eyes to the stars through the space program. During the New Frontier, unemployment benefits were expanded, aid was provided to cities to improve housing and transportation, funds were allocated to continue the construction of a national highway system started under Eisenhower, a water pollution control act was passed to protect the country’s rivers and streams, and an agricultural act to raise farmers’ incomes was made law. The bay of pigs invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba. Brigade 2506, the group that attempted to invade cuba, was made up of Cubans who fled the country after Castro’s takeover, was trained and funded by the CIA. The CIA Castro gone because he was a communist, and at the time everyone was afraid of communists. This attack lasted three days before Brigade 2506 was defeated. The Cuban missile crisis, also known as the October crisis, was a confrontation between the U.S and Soviet Union and was the closest the Cold War came to being an actual war. In response to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, Castro reached out to the Soviet Union and asked for nuclear missiles to scare away any more countries thinking about attacking Cuba. After a long period of tense negotiations, an agreement was reached between President John F.
The Cuban Missile Crisis all started in October, 1962, when an American spy plane spotted and secretly photographed missile sites being built on the island of Cuba by the Soviet Union. President Kennedy did not tell the Soviet Union right away that we had found their nuclear missile site. But days later, President Kennedy meet secretly with his advisors to discuss the situation. President Kennedy and his advisors though long and hard about what to do and the finally came up with an idea. Kennedy decided to put a naval blockade around the island of Cuba. The purpose of this was so Cuba could not get anymore military supplies for the Soviet Union. President Kennedy demanded that the missiles that were already there be disabled and that the sit be destroyed. Later on, Kennedy told America what was happening on a televised address. Everyone was anxious about what the Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev, would say about the naval blockade. But both President Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev recognized that the devastation that a nuclear war will bring is too much.
History: The Bay of the Pigs was a Cuban government attack to overthrow Fidel Castro, the Prime Minister at the time. It was a CIA backed and was executed under the administration of John F. Kennedy. With Castro being a communist, the Kennedy and Eisenhower administrations tried their best to remove him. Their opportunity to overthrow Castro came in the form of the Cuban exiles, who under Castro’s rule, fled from the island ultimately losing their investments and properties. This fact made it easier to convince the Cuban exiles to participate in the invasion against Castro’s government. US ships sailed on the 13th of April and chose to land on “Bahía de los Cochinos” which became the attacks downfall. The area was barely
The crisis began on October 15, 1962 when photographs by a U.S. spy plane revealed Soviet missiles under construction in Cuba just 90 miles away from the coast of the United States. The crisis ended on October 28 during the tense thirteen days of standoff, the two great superpowers faced off in stalemate. The crisis finally ended when Kennedy and Khrushchev made the secret deal. In exchange for the Soviets backing down their missiles, the United States would get rid of its nuclear missiles from Turkey and promise not to invade Cuba. ( John F. Kennedy)We've never been any closer to world destruction than the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The event of the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 was the closest the world has ever come to nuclear war. Fifteen years into the cold war, the two superpowers continued the fierce competition to increase their military strength. In 1962, the Soviet Union was desperately behind the United States in the nuclear arms race. Soviet missiles were only powerful enough to be launched against Europe, whereas the US missiles were capable of striking the entire Soviet Union. In late April 1962, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev conceived the idea of placing intermediate-range missiles in Cuba which would double the Soviet strategic arsenal and provide a real deterrent to a potential U.S. attack against the Soviet Union. The fate of millions
The Cuban Missile Crisis began October 16, 1962. It was at the height of the Cold War that this potentially lethal confrontation arose between the United States and the Soviet Union. A United States reconnaissance plane discovered a military stockpile of Soviet nuclear missiles and bombers in Cuba. Some historians point out that Khrushchev's real intention in deploying the missiles into Cuba was to control West Berlin. They would be used in this context as a sufficient reason for the Western powers (The USA, UK, and France) to allow him to achieve his plan. However, The government of Washington, along with President John F. Kennedy at its head, believed this to be a threat and was not willing to tolerate such a threat so close to home.
"The Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 was a direct and dangerous confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War and was the moment when the two superpowers came closest to nuclear conflict." (The Cuban Missile Crisis) Also according to this website it states: "At 8:45 AM on October 16, 1962, National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy alerted President Kennedy that a major international crisis was at hand. Two days earlier a United States military surveillance aircraft had taken hundreds of aerial photographs of Cuba." (The World on the Brink) "After many long and difficult meetings, Kennedy decided to place a naval blockade, or a ring of ships, around Cuba. The aim of this "quarantine," as he called it, was to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies." (Cuban Missile
As tensions increased between Cuba and the U.S., President John F Kennedy ordered the invasion on the evening of April 17th, 2017. The plan was to fly in around 1400 train cuban exiles undetected, launch attacks on Castro's forces, and overthrow the government with the hopes that the Cuban population would rise upa nd join in on the revolution. However, what some describe as a “Perfect failure”, was a flawed plan from the start. Due to the size of the invasion, the CIA eventually admitted that the operation in fact might be “too large to be clandestine and too small to be successful.” (http://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/bay-of-pigs-invasion) The bay of Pigs invasion was, and still is, one of the biggest mistakes in American foreign policy history and can be attributed to the shear poor planing of the operation. Because Castro received word of the invasion, U.S. strategic moves were compromised, like the bombing of Cuban airfields, that of which had no aircrafts because Castro had relocated them. Other examples of poor planning played into the failure of the operation, such as the sinking of supply ships due to coral reefs and backup paratroopers missing their drop locations. Due to the disastrous nature of the operation, Castro's army soon had the fighters pinned down, where around 100 were killed and over 1,000 were taken prisoner. The kennedy administration would face

During the Eisenhower administration president Kennedy was informed about the preparation of the’’ Cuban exiles’’ for invasion of their homeland. The proposal projected that backing from the Cuban public and maybe the Cuban military that possibly would lead to the rebellion of Castro and to establishing of a non-communist government friendly to the United States. ‘’Kennedy approved the operation and some 1,400 exiles landed at Cuba's Bay of Pigs on April 17’’. But the whole force was either killed or captured, and the operation failed which the president took full responsibility for.
