1) Of the major characters we meet in each of the 3 stories, whose resulting story is the most tragic? You must refer to each of the 3 stories. A Separate Peace states, “The more things remain the same, the more they change. Nothing endures, not a tree, not love, not even death by violence.” I agree that everything changes the more it remains the same. A tree will die or get sick if it does not change with the weather. A person will become an outcast and be labeled as “freaky” if they do not change with the trends.
Throughout the book, The Chosen, there are four major qualifying characters for the role of “The Chosen One”. David Malter is the father of Reuven Malter, and is an active Zionist. Reb Saunders is the father of Danny Saunders, and doesn’t talk to his son with the hopes of teaching him compassion. Reuven is Danny’s friend, and is a bridge among all the characters. Danny becomes friends with Reuven after hitting him in the eye with a softball, and also works with David in the library in secrecy. While all these characters have major roles, only one can be crowned with the winning title. Reuven Malter is “the chosen one”. Through the development of the character, Reuven, we see a sheltered young boy learn to find compassion in his heart all

The characters are very typical for this genre as they are all considered potential suspects to the death of Eva Smith. Their traits and speech conform to our expectations in several ways. All characters even if they were not a big part of Eva smiths death, had a role to play in the lead
The most obviously is King Theodore representing Teddy. The aunt and the uncle are represented by antagonist characters but it is more difficult to identify the right character for each one “...[Emperor Kang] escapes through the treachery of Zikla, Duke of Anders, a general in the the Upalian army…” (42). Zikla represents the aunt because she is subordinated to the uncle as the Duke of Anders is under the orders of the Emperor. Zikla’s treachery can have a metaphorical meaning if we assume the aunt is Teddy’s blood relative. The aunt betrays his own nephew and she blemishes her brother or sister (probably dead) when she doesn’t look after Teddy properly. At the same time is not difficult to find a relationship between Emperor Kang and the uncle “The Emperor Kang [is] as evil and cunning as the Fu Manchu…” (42). Emperor Kang is described as the worst character in the paper world, like the uncle is the cruelest in Teddy’s real

To conclude, these are the four loneliest characters in the novel. They all have similarities in terms of dreams and loneliness however in the story the characters do not notice this but the reader almost classifies these characters as an outsiders group. Their characters show how having big dreams and high aspirations can make you lonelier. We can also see how the views of society affect loneliness such as the acceptance of racism and sexism in this time period as well as the fact that every man was for himself so there
Another character is Maître Malandain. He was certainly identified as the antagonist of the story when the author stated that he was the enemy of Maître Hauchecome and
