The Upside Down Kingdom: Analysis The main point that Kraybill develops in his book is that the Kingdom of God announced by Jesus was a new order of things that looked upside-down in the midst of Palestinian culture in the first century (Kraybill, 2011, p.9). That is how the Kingdom was when Jesus came and it is still upside down in many ways today. The Kingdom of God continues to have upside-down features as it breaks into diverse cultures around the world today (Kraybill, 2011, p.9). Kraybill believes that Christians have domesticated Jesus, taming him to our culture and time (Kraybill, 2011, p.10). What this means is that every culture has a different perspective on who Jesus is and they believe what fits into each different culture today. It could be same occupation, religion, race, ethnic background, and many other things that can be similar to your life (Kraybill, 2011, p.194). This is one of the many reasons why the kingdom is upside down because an individual should welcome anyone with open arms not matter of where they came from. I can relate to this saying because I do tend to get along better and like to be around people that understand me. Like my co-workers our job is emotionally and physically exhausting and not a lot of people understand what we go through. We begin to have that in common and then get to know more about each other and realize that we have more than just our job in common. I feel more comfortable around them and we begin to open up about each other. Or my husband and I had almost the same lifestyle and race and he understands me because of what he’s been through.
