The Trojan Horse by Willie, Cole, & Jack
Introduction- The Greeks have been trying breach the 20 foot walls of Troy for ten years during the Trojan War. Why would the Trojans bring in a "gift" (A wooden horse carrying Greek warriors inside) from the people who have been trying to kill them for ten years? A good guess would be that it was an inside job. Someone from inside the city of Troy probably let the Greeks inside the city, so there is no way they accepted this "gift" from the Greeks. It is very questionable that the Trojan Horse didn’t even exist. It is like the game Telephone. The story changes as it was passed on. The story of the Trojan horse was probably a game of Telephone in History.
Historical Background- In 1260-1240 BC the Trojan War dredged on and on for the Greeks., who were trying to get inside the walls of Troy. No one had ever gotten into the gates except for people going in and out the front gate. The Front gate of Troy was the only way in and out of Troy. If you weren’t a citizen of Troy you were not getting in that city. The Greeks had finally figured out a way to breach the walls of Troy. The Greek General Odysseus’s plan was to build a huge wooden horse, and leave it outside the gates of Troy. Then the Greek army would pretend to leave, as if they had accepted defeat in a war that was more than ten years long. But the horse would be carrying 30 Greek warriors ready to open the gates of Troy.
Evidence- Only two people, Laocoon and Cassandra, spoke
At the beginning of Book 2 of The Aeneid, Aeneas tells his story about the fall of Troy. The Greeks constructed a massive wooden horse to which the Trojans believed was an offering goddess Minerva. They then sent one of their youths, Sinon, to give the offering to the Trojans. The Trojans brought the wooden horse into to please the goddess but, the wooden horse was actually a structure to house some Greek soldiers to infiltrate Troy as well as execute a sneak attack when the city was asleep. Similar to guerrilla soldiers, the Greeks exit the wooden horse to begin their attack on the Trojan city. When Aeneas sees the city in flames, he gathers his men to attempt to save Troy. Aeneas attempts to kill as many Greeks as he can, but forced to retreat.
38, 43-44 (Homer). Odysseus faced problems along the way which ultimately led to the Trojan War. The war was at a stalemate, therefore Odysseus gave the Trojans a horse as a peace offering. The Horse has Odysseus's men in it who kill the Trojans and they end up winning the war. Odysseus uses his skillful thinking to be able to trick the Trojans.
In the end, hundreds of soldiers emerged from the horse to fight the helpless Trojans and the Greeks
Cormac McCarthy is a man who holds few interviews. Even today, he is known as one of the world’s greatest, most prolific authors though most of his personal opinions are left unreported. In a rare interview with a New York Times journalist, McCarthy says the philosophical words: “There's no such thing as life without bloodshed” completely revealing the coveted theme of his novel, All the Pretty Horses. Considering the amount of violence that manifests itself in the book; Blevins’ murder, the prison fight, and the gunfight between John Grady and the ranch workers; all of which results from Grady’s pursuit of a peaceful life, the theme McCarthy wished to broadcast, a theme of inescapable violence, was true in its delivery.
In the Trojan War, Odysseus displayed his bravery by creating a risky plan to fill a 25-foot tall wooden horse with Greek soldiers to strike Troy undercover at night. This plan was major for the Greeks to conquer Troy and return to Helen. This shows a real-world connection when soldiers must plan a way
For this project a group of people and I created a Trojan horse out of popsicle sticks. In the Odyssey the main character ,Odysseus, builds a huge horse out of wood as a strategy to defeat the Trojans, who are the enemy they have been at war with for a long time.He and his men hid inside of this horse and the Trojans unknowingly bring it inside of their city walls. Once inside the city Odysseus and his men surprise attack and win the war. This event is a big part in the Hero's Journey of the Odyssey because it starts the crossing of the threshold . After the war Poseidon, one of the greek Gods, gets angry with Odysseus for his prideful ways because Odysseus did not thank Poseidon for his help. And without Poseidon's help of concealing the horse
Answering dido, Aeneas begins telling about the fall of troy, even though retelling it involves reexperiencing the agony (this is from the actual book which i have a copy of). He takes us back to ten years into the Trojan War, where the Danaans (Greeks) have suddenly retreated (from view) but also built a big wooden stallion with a stomach filled with warrors. They covertly hide their best officers, with supplies, inside the stallion, while whatever is left of the Greek armed force keeps out of sight some separation from Troy. Seeing a monstrous steed before their doors confuses the Trojans
When the Greeks were losing they believed there was no hope. Odysseus offered a spectacular idea that could end the Trojan War. “developed the strategy of a wooden horse. He found a skilled artisan to make a wooden horse that would be hollow and big enough to hold the a
here is where the cunning of Odysseus shone through. Odysseus had the Greek army built what came to be known as the Trojan horse,a giant hollow wooden horse to give the Trojans as an offering of peace. within the body of the horse, some of the best Greek warriors hid. this was remembered to be referred to, as ''beware Greeks bearing
Sinon’s tales told the Trojans the antithetical placement of the Trojan Horse that Greeks desired because Sinon explained that the horse was “Too big for the gates, not to be hauled inside” (Virgil 250-251). The Trojans listened the truth of Sinon and hauled the horse inside the walls of Troy following the stratagem of the Greeks. All the same, the Trojans listened to a traitor who proved himself as their enemy, but the Trojans still thought otherwise. The traitor played to the Trojans’ trust and empathy in the favor of Greeks to end the war with the Greeks on top. In the article, Soft Concepts in Economics by Gyorffy on page three stated,”The most significant characteristic of actions based on trust is vulnerability to the abuse of trust.”
Then Odysseus thought up a plan, first they would pretend to forfeit the war and retreat to a nearby island, but they would leave behind a man named Sinon who would convince the Trojans that Athena was furious at them for letting the Palladium be stolen; an oracle came and told the Trojans that a Greek man would have to die, so Sinon was to be sacrificed by cleverly he escaped, but he came back and the Trojans had sympathy for him and accepted him as one of their own. Now the Trojans had the challenge of trying to find a way to please Athena; so, following Odysseus’ plan, Sinon told the Trojans that in order to please Athena they’d have to accept the Trojan Horse that was devised by
After Helen was abducted, Menelaus demanded her return, when the Trojans refused Menelaus convinced his brother Agamemnon to lead an army against the Trojans in Troy. At Aulis in Greece the army gathered, it was led by the greatest Greek Heroes which included Achilles, Patroclus, Diomedes, Odysseus, Nestor and two warriors named Ajax. So that the troops won favorable winds for the journey to Troy Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia to Artemis, the winds then came and the fleet of ships set sail to Troy. After nine years of battle the Greeks ravaged Troy’s countryside and surrounding cities but since Troy was well fortified it held out. Afterwards the Greeks decided to build a hollow horse they would hide in while other Greeks would
The Trojan War is described as one of histories most legendary battles. This battle is told to have lasted ten years, resulting in the eventual collapse of Troy, under the siege of Greek forces. Modern knowledge of the Trojan War has survived mainly through the account given in Homer’s Illiad, and while having proved to be a rich source of inspiration for other writers, artists, and even filmmakers in recent history, much speculation still exists surrounding his account. I will analyze modern interpretations of the Trojan War and examine both speculation and support for Homer’s account. Concluding with sufficient evidence that has been collected surrounding this epic battle, proving Homer’s account of a massive battle between these two powerful city states to not be just a tale of myth and legend, but actual history.
One last lesson Odysseus and I have both learned is how tricks can sometimes be successful, yet sometimes they can fail. When sly, cunning Odysseus built the wooden horse to send to Troy as a “surrendering” gift, the Greek who said it was an offering to Troy was convincing enough to bribe the soldiers into bringing the horse inside the walls of Troy. Then, Odysseus and his men snuck out of the horse in the night, defeated the Trojan army, and were finally
The Trojan War was during the Bronze Age in the 12th or 13th century BC. It was between Greece and Troy. The Trojan War mainly started when the Greeks brought a wooden horse over to Troy as a sign of “peace.” However, it was used to take over Troy since there were many armed men in the horse. A downfall the Trojans had that led up to this point in time was that they were foolish, “Four times did the Horse halt as they dragged it, before it passed through the gate, and each time their might have been heard a great clashing of arms within” (Church 9). In the Horse, there were sounds being made but the Trojans did not pay attention to these signs and Troy suffered as a result. Overall, the Trojan War was created due to many gods fighting over Helen and because of this Troy was taken over by Greece and Aeneas and his crew had to relocate and find a new safe place to live with the help of Venus and Apollo by their side.
