Betrayal is a horrible feeling that one should never have to experience. I have chosen to discuss the theme "Betrayal manifests itself in many different ways and forms." This theme can be seen in the poems Let me describe her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun and Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy, in the movie The Whale Rider by Nikki Caro and the novel The trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan. In the poem Let me describe for you her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun, we can see my theme throughout the entire poem. This is first shown in the quote "But lay there in the street before I knew it." This line is relevant to betrayal because it shows that he has been hit by love, which has rendered him to lying on the ground in the street. This line happens after the quote …show more content…
It is first shown when Apollo is in the forest for the third time. While he is suffering from a concussion he keeps seeing the face of one of the people he loved the most, Daphne. He regrets ever ridiculing Eros archery skills and that he blames himself for her turning into a tree. One line describing how he felt was "I invented the laurel wreath to commemorate my failure - to punish myself for the fate of my greatest love. Every time some hero wins the laurels, I am reminded of the girl I can never win." Later on in the novel Meg, the demigod he has come to love betrays him. The line that shows this is "My heart compressed to the size of a pebble. 'Meg, no. I can't believe-.'" After that page is Chapter 30, which has the line "But I couldn't remember ever being so wrong about someone as I had been about Meg." This line shows how much this betrayal has affected him, since he had grown to love Meg and that he thought that he knew her extremely well. This betrayal has affected him in the way that past betrayals have, by making him feel like it is all his fault that this had happened. Rick Riordan wants us to understand that betrayal manifests itself in many forms and ways, and that this can happen at any time during your life, whether you expect it to happen or not. This novel also has a link with the poem Valentine, since they are both about betrayal with
In the novel, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, betrayal takes place in many situations and it is almost always followed by forgiveness. Some of the motives behind the betrayal in the novel include- fear, spite, temptation, pride, selfishness, and doing what is right. In C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Lewis includes the recurring theme of betrayal and forgiveness. The first examples of betrayal are by Mr.Tumnus.
A common theme from the book Pudd’nhead Wilson by Mark Twain is betrayal. In the book the theme is shown by betrayal can come from anyone, even a person’s loved one’s. One example of betrayal is when Tom breaks his promise to Roxy and sells her down the river. It is stated “In almost no time his flowing reasonings carried him to the point of even half believing he was doing Roxy a splendid surreptitious service in selling her ‘down the river’” (Twain 98). Tom promised Roxy he would sell her up the river to a nice slave owner, and that promise quickly goes down the drain when he sells her to a planter down the river. Tom betrays his own mother, so quickly and doesn’t even feel half bad about it. In the story Tom also betrays Judge Driscoll,
In the novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle, Meg Murry is a young female character who learns to lead and understands the power of love. In the novel, Meg changes from a girl who has insecurities about her appearance, to a heroine. Meg goes on a journey to save her father, that leads Meg to a whole other universe. There Meg learns how important the power of love can be, as well as learning new things about herself. Meg also does things she did not think she could do, and sees things not even imaginable. Throughout the novel, A Wrinkle in Time, Meg proves to be a character who shows insecurity, learns to lead, and understands love.
Meg in this book learns she has to do many things independently on quote to prove this is when Mrs. Whatsit explains her views of life she tells them “life, with its rules, its obligations, and its freedoms, is like a sonnet: You're given the form, but you have to write the sonnet yourself. - Mrs. Whatsit” (219). She is trying to explain there are many opportunities but you have to make a lot of your own decisions in life. Another time when recognizes she needs to think on her own is when Meg has to go Camazotz by herself. She became closest to her brother Charles Wallace since her father has been missing and relies on his help so she was surprised when Ms. Whatsit asks her “Do you have the courage to go alone?” (218). Meg then realizes what this means and understands she has to depend on herself. Her “voice was flat ‘No’. But it doesn’t matter.’” (218). Meg realizes she is willing to be strong and go but also knows she has to build up all of her courage to do it when she says “But it doesn’t matter.” (218 ) Meg knows has to at least try to help her little Brother Charles Wallace.
Meg is a girl that acts out. Meg seems to get into fights, and she thinks of herself as a ‘’delinquent’’. Since her father left, she seems to be a depressed person. Meg also acts as though she only cares about Charles Wallace, ‘’her dumb baby brother’’, and her mother. She also misses her father dearly.

Humans are a simple species. For most, the single most desired entity amongst humans is to merely love and be loved, and while this seems as if it would be easily achievable, many things can stand in the way of this. One of these things is the act of betrayal. Betrayal has been considered to be one of the vilest transgressions someone could commit to someone close to them. According to the article Betrayal, Rejection, Revenge, and Forgiveness: An Interpersonal Script Approach, “betraying another person or group of people implies unspeakable disloyalty, a breach of trust, and a violation of what is good and proper” (Fitness). In the novel “Boy Meets Boy”, several instances of betrayal, whether it be in a platonic or romantic relationship,
Betrayal Can Come From A Friend For there to be betrayal, there would have to have been trust first. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell, betrayal is a common theme shown by most of the characters throughout this novel. Betrayal could happen when you least expect it.
As Meg encounters conflict, she feels anger and protectiveness for those who she is close to. Charles Wallace had delved into the mind of IT, who took him over. Meg yells angrily, “‘Where is he? She demanded of the

My life is a tale with many different renditions. However, there’s this one factor of my story that’s common among all the adaptations. And that is betrayal.
The first betrayal to appear is Tomas' inability to stop having relationships with other mistresses, especially Sabina, when Tereza entered his life and told him that "it hurt so much" (16), and that she couldn't bear such a betrayal anymore. This betrayal was substantiated when Tomas realized that "making love with a women and sleeping with a woman are two separate passions" (15). Making love is light because such a relationship didn't have "any claim on the life and freedom of the other" (12), while sleeping with a women was serious and "by making it important and serious, [Tereza] deprived it of its lightness" (273). By showing a betrayal in terms of heaviness and lightness, it could be said that a betray itself means to change from a matter of heaviness to a matter of lightness. In the triangular relationship of Tomas, Tereza, and Sabina, Tomas is constantly changing from a heavy relationship with Tereza to a light one with Sabina, a betrayal that Tereza could not stand. This, as a result, forced Tereza to move away from Tomas as a way of escaping this heavy relationship. This betrayal, to move away from Tomas, brought upon lightness to both Tereza and Tomas before Tomas realized that Tereza's choice to betray him left feeling the "unbearable lightness of being" (30). Now that Tomas has experienced weight in a relationship, he need it more than ever. By moving to
Betrayal gives the book a unique way of recounting and showing the readers who the characters are and how they would react given certain situations. Therefore characters such as Frollo and Phoebus would not be the same round characters they are currently if their characteristics were not elaborated on with betrayal. The definition of betrayal is using someone’s trust to another party’s advantage in order to achieve a goal. Inside the story Hunchback of Notre Dame, betrayal plays an enormous accompanying all the characters and overall contributes to the main feel of the
