Betrayal is a horrible feeling that one should never have to experience. I have chosen to discuss the theme "Betrayal manifests itself in many different ways and forms." This theme can be seen in the poems Let me describe her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun and Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy, in the movie The Whale Rider by Nikki Caro and the novel The trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan. In the poem Let me describe for you her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun, we can see my theme throughout the entire poem. This is first shown in the quote "But lay there in the street before I knew it." This line is relevant to betrayal because it shows that he has been hit by love, which has rendered him to lying on the ground in the street. This line happens after the quote …show more content…

It is first shown when Apollo is in the forest for the third time. While he is suffering from a concussion he keeps seeing the face of one of the people he loved the most, Daphne. He regrets ever ridiculing Eros archery skills and that he blames himself for her turning into a tree. One line describing how he felt was "I invented the laurel wreath to commemorate my failure - to punish myself for the fate of my greatest love. Every time some hero wins the laurels, I am reminded of the girl I can never win." Later on in the novel Meg, the demigod he has come to love betrays him. The line that shows this is "My heart compressed to the size of a pebble. 'Meg, no. I can't believe-.'" After that page is Chapter 30, which has the line "But I couldn't remember ever being so wrong about someone as I had been about Meg." This line shows how much this betrayal has affected him, since he had grown to love Meg and that he thought that he knew her extremely well. This betrayal has affected him in the way that past betrayals have, by making him feel like it is all his fault that this had happened. Rick Riordan wants us to understand that betrayal manifests itself in many forms and ways, and that this can happen at any time during your life, whether you expect it to happen or not.
