This district includes Shelton (part), Stratford, Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Branford, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Milford, Naugatuck, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Prospect, Seymour, Wallingford, Waterbury (part), West Haven, Woodbridge, Durham, Middlefield, and Middletown (part). The third district has existed since 1837, and is mostly an urban area. DeLauro ran for the open seat and defeated Republican State Senator Thomas Scott 52% to 48%. She has never faced another election so close, and has been reelected twelve times, never going below 63% of the vote. This past election in 2016, DeLauro was up against Republican candidate Angel Cadena, but DeLauro was re-elected with 69% of the vote. It is very clearly shown by certain controversial topics that Rosa DeLauro is a liberal or has liberal idealism. To start with DeLauro is pro-choice and believes that anybody can have an abortion for absolutely any reason. Rosa DeLauro’s interest group ratings include the following: ADA (Americans for Democratic Action) (2006, Liberal) is 100%, ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) (2011-2012, Liberal) is 100%, ACU (American Conservative Union) (2010, conservative) 0%, FDR (Family Research Council) (2013, conservative) is 0%, and the CC (Christian Coalition) (2014, conservative) is 0%. We can see from political issues and from both conservative and liberal interest groups that Rosa DeLauro is as liberal as they come.
