Introduction The three foremost approaches related to the idea of ‘risk’ in the 21st century and today’s society are the Anthropological approach, the Risk Society approach, and the Governmentality approach. The four co-ordinated attacks hit the transport system at the morning rush hour. The first three bombs went off around 8.50am on the underground trains just outside Liverpool Street and Edgware Road stations, and on another travelling between King 's Cross and Russell Square. The final explosion was approximately an hour later on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square (BBC News, 2005). The chaos that ensued in the capital echoed the terrorist attacks suffered by New York only four years before, on 11 September 2001. The worst bombing in London since WWII, it brought the city’s public transport to a standstill and in the immediate aftermath of the bombings, victims on the tube used fire extinguishers to break down train doors. Passengers on one of the underground trains who were able to walk, felt their way in the darkness down the length of the tunnel back to ground level. The three separate incidents initially were blamed on train collisions, electrical failures and power cuts, however, the following day the Metropolitan Police stated that it could not be ruled out that the attacks were "the result of suicide bombings".
