In The Tain, there is a lot of different conflicts throughout the story. These conflicts were able to get the story going. In The Tain there was a lot of Man v Man. The first conflict dealing with man v man, would be the whole reason why the story happens, which is Medb and her husband, Ailill. The reason why this is a conflict is because it lets the story take off. The conflict between Medb and Ailill was a very trivial reason, it all started while Medb and Ailill were in bed and Ailill said, “It is true what they say love, it is well for the wife of a wealthy man.”, which started the debate of who I had more than the other. “…Ailill said. No one has more property or jewels or precious things than I have, and I know it. Then the lowliest of their possessions were brought out to see who had more property…” (The Tain 54). …show more content…

Having this conflict in the very beginning of the book, was able to set up the story in a way that it has meaning an d purpose. Without having the conflict in the beginning the story would had felt like it was kind of pointless. Also, since Medb is one of the important characters, the reader is able to see why this whole thing was important in the first place. Another man v man, would be with Cuchulainn and the various people he fought. The more significant people he fought were the boy troop, Fergus, and Ferdia. The reason why the conflict between the specific people are so essential to the narrative is because the reader is able to see Cuchulainn grow from a 7-year boy fighting the boy troop to having to make more demanding choices as a 17-year boy when he is faced with Fergus, his foster father and Ferdia, his foster
