Sunflower dilemma In The Sunflower book by Simon wiesenthal there is a passage that includes a delama; Karl ( a dying nazi soldier) was asking for forgiveness for his actions from Simon (a jew). When forgiveness is asked, the person giving the forgiveness has to at times think about their religion and think about who has the ability to forgive him/her. This sunflower delma has been used to ether explain or understand how jews felt after the holocaust. Eva Fleischner is an emeritus Austro-American religious scholar which means she has knowledge in the field of religion and other cultures. When Fleischner was asked what her response would be for the sunflower dilemma, she believed that since karl didn't kill simon he didn't really have the right to forgive him. “ ‘ there is no way i can forgive you. I cannot, dare n0t speak in the name of a murdered jew.’ ”(Fleischner ).In the book karl killed the family, he didn’t kill Simon. Simon couldn't talk for a whole race of people, if he did he would have to be responsible for the forgiveness of all the jewish
