Hello Class, This morning I will be telling you about a suspenseful and exciting book. “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is a very nerve- wracking and entertaining book. I will be explaining the main character, setting, plot, author, and what I have learned from this book. This is a very interesting book that has many changes throughout the story. Now let’s begin.

Dr. Jeykll, Mr. Hyde, Dr. Lanyon, and Mr. Utterson are the main characters in the story. Other characters include Poole, Jeykll’s butler, Mr. Enfield, Mr. Utterson’s younger cousin, Inspector Newcomen, a Scotland Yard detective, Mr. Gust, head law clerk to Mr. Uttersons, Sir Danvers Carew, a Member of Parliament, and the housemaid, Sarah. Mr. Hyde is an evil man who also looks very frightening. Mr. Utterson is a lawyer that is representing a family against Mr. Hyde for attacking their daughter. Mr. Utterson’s old friend, Dr. Jeykll writes the check to pay off the family for Mr. Hyde. Mr. Utterson gets suspicious as to why Dr. Jekyll pays off the family instead of Mr. Hyde. Utterson thinks that Hyde is blackmailing Jeykll, so he starts doing detective work on Mr. Hyde. He follows Hyde around to see what he is up to. He also questions Jeykll about Hyde, Jekyll replies nervously that Hyde is an old friend, and quickly changes the subject. Later on Hyde murders someone in the street which makes the story much more suspenseful. Robert Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1850. Robert Louis Stevenson was a fragile child, who was greatly influenced by his father’s punishments and his nurse’s horrifying stories about demons. Robert Stevenson went to the University of Edinburgh to learn about law. He gave up law and turned to writing. He married an American woman. Robert Stevenson also had bad health. “The Strange Case of Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll” was based on a nightmare Stevenson previously had. He died in 1894 at an early age of forty-four in the Island of Samoa.

Throughout the story, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” I have learned many different lessons. One thing I have learned is that nobody is perfect and everyone has a bad side. I have also learned that the world can contain much evil. The book “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” has taught me many different things.
