Part 1 – Solar System: How Our understanding Has Changed
Example 1: First Thoughts
During the first millennium B.C. scientists realized that astronomy had to become more scientific. Middle Eastern and Chinese cultures started studying the Sun, stars and the planets more closely in an attempt to learn more about our position in the universe.. Star positions also became important tools in understanding directions, and helping with navigation. One philosopher stated in 434 B.C. that the Sun was a ball of fire 60 kilometres in diameter, hovering 6500 kilometres above Earth’s surface. Around 130 B.C., Ptolemy wrote Almagest, which was a huge collection of astronomical data which included mathematical models, information about eclipses, and planetary and stellar positions and movements. It remained a major go to book for astronomy for hundreds of years, and was not seriously challenged until Copernicus disputed the geocentric model of the solar system in the 1500’s

Copernicus published "On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres" in 1543 , sparking off the scientific revolution and a new era of astronomical thought. This theory explains that the sun, not the Earth, is the center of the solar system and planets move in a circular motion around it. This had many social, intellectual and religious made of huis idea. For instance, this theory brought into question the strict reading of the Bible and philosophies of the Catholic Church.
The geocentric model created by Ptolemy, and the heliocentric model created by Copernicus, had greatly differed in which force of being (the sun or the earth,) was the center of the universe. Ptolemy’s Geocentric
Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer and mathematician who lived between 1671-1630. Kepler was a Copernican and initially believed that planets should follow perfectly circular orbits (“Johan Kepler” 1). During this time period, Ptolemy’s geocentric theory of the solar system was accepted. Ptolemy’s theory stated that Earth is at the center of the universe and stationary; closest to Earth is the Moon, and beyond it, expanding towards the outside, are Mercury, Venus, and the Sun in a straight line, followed by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the “fixed stars”. The solar system was created 4.6 billion years ago by a gravitational collapse. A solar system is a star that has planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and meteoroids travel around it. The solar system contains eight known planets which are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune. There is around several hundred dwarf plants but only five are currently recognized. The solar system has about 181 moons which orbit around the planets in the solar system. There is also about 150 million asteroids and 3,406 comets also in the solar system.
The first discovery that we will talk about in this essay, is the discovery of the "solar heartbeat". Scientists have discovered a pulse within the Sun that lies in the layers of gas that revolve underneath the surface of the Sun. Scientists discovered that the Sun's equatorial region rotates at rate that differs from the rate at which the Sun's polar regions rotate. The equatorial region rotating once every twenty-seven days, and the polar regions, every thirty-five days. This differential in rotations extends down a third of the way to the Sun's core, in the convection layer. Rotations at the convection layer also differ from the Sun's equatorial and polar regions, taking only fifteen to sixteen days to complete a revolution. It is believed by astronomers that these internal rotating gas layers are in correspondence with eruptions and solar flares on the surface of the Sun.
Our very own solar system consists of the most important star called the Sun, it provides earth with the necessary energy in order to sustain life. There are 8 planets revolving around the sun and they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,Neptune , and Pluto. However Pluto is no longer considered a planet. But that is still debatable. The Sun is the center o the Solar System, it has a nearly perfect sphere shape of hot plasma that generates a magnetic field. The asteroid belt is a circumstellardisc which is located in the Solar system between the planet of Mars and Jupiter. The solar system is just one of the many galaxies in our universe and there are more galaxies yet to be discovered.
Scientists have been researching about outer space for years but still don’t know as much as one may think. Scientists still do not know much about the early solar system. Scientists believed that the solar system was reshuffled around in the past which would explain the Kuiper belt and the Oort cloud of icy bodies, the inner planets being destroyed by asteroids and why there isn’t any super Earths around in this solar system. But scientists recently discovered something that may change their theory. In Michael D. Lemonick’s “Plant Nine from Outer Space,” Lemonick claims that scientists may have found a planet with ten times the mass of Earth that is beyond Pluto and may be the reason why objects from the Kuiper belt are following similar orbits
This is a video about our solar system created by me! I used the app Educreations on my iPad to create this video. I was able to upload an image, draw all over it and use my voice to teach you a little about our solar system. In this video I discussed what makes up our solar system, a little information about our sun, terrestrial and gas giant planets and a few more interesting facts. This app is an awesome tool! It was so easy to use even student could use it and teach lessons to the class or each other. I definitely see myself using this as a teaching aid in my future classrooms!

The solar system is the earth’s neighbourhood and the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the Earth’s neighbours. They all have the same stars in the sky and orbit the same sun.
Formally, classified natural satellites or moons include 176 planetary satellites orbiting six of the eight planets. Of the inner planets, Mercury and Venus have no natural satellites; Earth has one large natural satellite, known as the Moon; and Mars has two tiny natural satellites, Phobos and Deimos. The large gas giant planets have extensive systems of natural satellites, including half a dozen comparable in size to Earth 's Moon. The objects in the solar system are classified foremost by their dynamics and motion, while size and composition are important for secondary classification. The solar system itself is, defined by the orbits of its constituent bodies. Classification by motion is more useful for astronomers. In fact, the dynamics of the solar system were a central issue for early astronomers such as Ptolemy in the second century and Nicholaus Copernicus in the 16th century. In what follows, we introduce different classifications of the planetary moons.

“The Nine Planets of the Solar System”, which is an article posted on the NASA website, portrays Earth as a planet that is caring yet still mortal. Interestingly enough, Earth has many characteristics that can be analyzed and compared to human emotions. In the article, NASA states, many characteristics, and those being: moderate temperature, a hot core, an atmospheric field that burns projectiles before hitting Earth 's surface, a moon, and multiple natural activities which damages the Earth 's internal and external characteristics.Therefore, Earth’s beauty and vast miles of calm appearance, makes it feel like there is a complete resemblance to me(of course not the green and serenity of it). Out of every single planet in the article the most common and familiar characteristics is Earth. Earth is our home planet which makes it even better because it’s so comfortable to be in Earth as how people are comfortable Although that Earth’s magnificent qualities have a similarity to me if you ever want to learn more about me and continue to pursue an amazing companion(“friend”, I have a girlfriend) for life. Future friends, and future family members should research Earth more to discover many of its comparable qualities to me.
