When my relatives and I were playing paintball, I was the first one to walk onto the field trying not to get hit by the other team. Being courageous can sometimes be dangerous, like when I walked onto the paintball field not knowing where the enemy was hiding. But being courageous can lead to new adventures. Ty from Street Pharm and the IRA Sniper from “The Sniper” both are courageous because they had to do actions that other people might not be comfortable doing. Ty from Street Pharm is a very courageous guy because he has to take over his dad’s drug dealing business. Ty and his friends Joe and Cheddar all went to a school dance, “I blew through the metal detectors and got a pat-down from a she-man guard” (Diespin 73). Ty blew through the metal detectors because his friend Cheddar had dared him to. Ty is talking to a hitman after he was targeted in a …show more content…
The IRA Sniper was on top of the parliament building trying to fight for Independence from Britain, but then he see a woman talking to a gunner on top of a truck, A man’s head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle and fired” (O’Flaherty 2). The Sniper was trying not to get killed by the turret gunner, so he took the shot to kill the gunner and the woman to save his life. The IRA Sniper was curios of the Sniper he had just killed because he had a similar accuracy of someone who used to be on the IRA Sniper’s unit, “The Sniper darted across the street… He threw himself downward beside the corpse” (O’Flaherty 5). The Sniper was so curious that he darted across the street dodging bullets just to see who had tried to kill him. Once he got to the dead corpse, he flipped it over and found out that it was his brother. When the IRA Sniper shot and killed his enemies he was courageous because he had to kill people that he might’ve knew to fight for what he believed
A similar theme was developed between The Sniper and Ambush. The Sniper’s theme is Stay Focused, What has happened… Happened. Ambush’s theme is Don’t Dwell on the Past.
The sniper was inhaling a cigarette on a rooftop when someone launched a fire at him from the opposite side of the street. He managed to escape the shot successfully without any injury or bruises. The sniper also managed to kill two other free staters after that, one man and one woman.
r gave up.The IRA Sniper showed determination by staying focused on his job.(O’Flaherty.2) Grounded his teeth to overcome the pain. The IRA Sniper had given away his position by smoking and shooting the informer and turret man.The free stater was able to shoot him when he was.taking these shots.he couldn't lift is rifle and was bleeding.Even though he was in pain he kept going.”His enemy had been hit”(o’flaherty.4).This quote shows determination by the IRA Sniper dressing his own wounded and tricking the other sniper into thinking he was dead. The free stater Sniper gave his position and IRA sniper took a shot and hoped for the best.He was successful.Even though the IRA Sniper was shot, bleeding and tired he was was determined to do his job or die trying. The IRA Sniper showed
¨On a rooftop near O'Connell Bridge, a Republican sniper lay watching bed. Beside him lay his rifle and over his shoulders was slung a pair of field glasses. His face was the face of a student, thin, and ascetic, but his eyes had the cold gleam of the fanatic. They were deep and thoughtful, the eyes of a man who is used to looking at death.¨ (O'Flaherty 1). This quote shows that The Sniper had been alone and he was going to fight off any enemy that had come near or across the O'Connell Bridge on his own without help from anyone on his side. The Sniper was left alone without anyone on his side and with very little food and liquids to be able to survive, he had to use his instincts and other tactics to survive this
Another courageous person I know is my grandfather, Gary Breeden. When he was younger he was a marine in the Vietnam War. This shows courage because, he volunteered to fight for his country. He put himself in danger to protect, not only his loved ones, but the entire country which is a very brave and courageous thing to do. Volunteering to be in the military also shows a lot of courage because all throughout boot camp and training, the body and the mind are pushed to their breaking point. Breeden has taught me how to help others by sacrificing his life for the greater good. Breeden also displays courage by always putting the needs of others before his own. My grandfather puts his needs second to the needs of his loved ones. Breeden allows himself
We have been asked why is it important to be courageous? In reality there are many reasons, but only few I can explain. We have to be courageous so we can try new things, do something different, or get out of our comfort zone.
‘I'll tell kevin I can't go. What's your excuse food poisoning’. This shows Ty is inventive because he is making a plan to set up a rival drug dealer trying to take his turf. Another way he is inventive is because he was walking out of the gym when he seen a car turn out of an ally and drive slow right behind him. “ i dove behind a mess of trash cans covering my head as bullets ricocheted off metal’’.
Some people would say there is no point in being courageous. But there are a great number of benefits for both yourself and others. Many people have changed the world by having courage, some in books and in real life. And all of them at some point have just stood up to it. Being courageous can have huge benefits because in a bunch of cases they just let fear stick with them, but it is easy to change.
The story takes place in Dublin, Ireland in the year 1922. During this time, there is a civil war going on between the Republicans and Free States. This story is about a very skilled republican sniper who tries to kill his enemy, in which he succeeds but feels guilty about it. The author foreshadows that the sniper knew his enemy by comparing how similar they are. “When the sniper reached the laneway on
Throughout history, there have been countless times whenre individuals have courageously fought for change and societal justice. For instance, Gandhi helped India gain their independence, even though the circumstances were extremely risky for him, and could have led to his arrest or even death. However, he continued to persevere through it all, and was able to accomplish great things for his country. Another example is Malala Yousafzai, who promoted the education of girls in her country. Despite the clear threat of the Taliban, she continued to fight hard for her cause. Courage can be defined in many different ways, such as the ability to persevere and accomplish something in a frightening or risky situation. Examples of courage can be seen all around the world. Without courageous people, society would not have been able to improve. Being courageous is difficult, and requires an abundance of dedication and perseverance. It also includes remaining strong, despite the challenges that may occur along the way.
The short story “the sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty tells the story of a man who is in the Irish war, he gets shot at by another sniper, and eventually gets shot in the arm. After some planning, the sniper steps up a plan that successfully kills the other sniper. The Sniper is about consequences and shows that we must live with the consequences of our actions. The sniper is shot at by another sniper, which turns out to be his own brother. After a gunfight, the sniper kills his brother without knowing, and must live with the consequence for the rest of his life.
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe once said, “courage is the commitment to begin without any guarantee of success.” This quote means that no ordinary person can be known to be courageous. It takes someone who will stand by what they say no matter what the circumstances are and how they may be looked at in society. A courageous person doesn't have to always succeed, but put in the effort to try and prove their point in any way possible. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Lee mentions many courageous people whose actions speak louder than their words.
The sniper develops insensitivity to death during the war. When he kills the old woman, she’s trying to run away and isn’t really a threat. He even “utters a cry of joy” when he finally shoots the enemy sniper. This shows how war can get people caught up in the cat-and-mouse “game” aspect of it and forget what they’re actually doing—killing people. People get so caught up in the “game” that they don’t think about the repercussions for their actions.
"The Sniper" places a strong emphasis on the evils of war, and yet paints a vivid image of mankind's qualities and their society. Employing the technique of describing one particular sniper to symbolise a general subject, readers are able to gain a deep insight into the evils of war. In this story, the assembly of setting, contrasting characters and themes of fanaticism and division of loyalties are vital to conveying the horror of war. On the other hand, "The Sniper" also discusses the power of war, depicting it as the decider of life and death for men. Its force is further emphasised when neighbours are turned into enemies under war's influence.
In 1923, the story “The Sniper” was written by Liam O'Flaherty. The story is about a Civil war in Ireland where there were 2 snipers, shooting at each other and they were both on a rooftop with long-range weapons and they don’t know each other but at the end one of the sniper found out that he killed his own brother. The author uses irony and the conflict between the sniper and the other sniper just to tell us the main message which is that we shouldn’t fight each other, we should fight together because we live in the same country and we should fight for our country.
