Part A: In the story ‘The Sign of Four’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous Sherlock Homes is at it again, with another thought provoking case. Sherlock Homes is a brilliant, but stubborn detective who has confidence in everything he does. His partner, John Watson, is an ex military doctor who assists Homes in his investigations and writes stories on them. On a particular day in England, Sherlock and Watson are discussing cases when a young lady knocks upon their door. The woman, Mary Morstan, was one of the loveliest woman Waston had laid his eyes upon with her blonde fair, fair skin and exquisite clothing. Te friend, Major Sholto denied ever seeing him and died four years later. Before they have time to think Mary shows up and they travel to the location to meet the mysterious man. Upon arriving they meet a small, dark man who whisks them away in a carriage, taking them to an unknown location. The journey ends when they arrive in a rundown neighbor hood and are taken into a dark strange house. They knock on ted or and are met with a Hindu servant who tells them that The Sahib awaits them. The trio enters the house meeting a man named Thaddeus Sholto, the son of Major John Sholto. Thaddeus reveals that Marys father is dead from a poor heart, making Mary faint. He also tells that John Sholto had brought home a large sum of money from India and that Thaddeus and Bartholomew were to get some. Mr. Sholto had been shocked when he heard about Mary’s father’s disappearance and obtained a strange letter that upon reading sickened him to death. Minutes before his final breath he told his sons that the daughter of his dear friend must gain half of his treasures. After some investigating Homes finds a wooden stump print alongside a heavy boot print, they also find small child like prints that Sherlock believes belongs to a strange species of man. The foot prints have left behind a small trace of DNA, making Watson go and fetch a dog named Toby. Toby leads the two to bloody hand prints, around the town and finally, to the edge of the Thames. There it is made clear that the murderers have hired a boat to escape. Sherlock the hires a group to search for the boat and report to him if they find anything.
