In the Treaty of Paris, defeated France and Spain sought peace with Britain after seven years of conflict over American land. Although the Seven Years War is a large event in history, one can argue that the events created by results of the war concluded to be more significant. The results of the Seven Years War, or the French and Indian War, affected the lives and political state of the British, the colonists, and the Native Americans. The French and Indian War left British victorious but in debt. To begin with, Britain obtained lands from both France and Spain as an outcome of the Treaty of Paris. They gained Florida from Spain and under “French negotiator Choiseul... Britain would gain all French territory east of the Mississippi” (Treaty of Paris 1). Also, because of their victory, the British were able to take down many of France’s naval bases, including Quebec, Guadeloupe, …show more content…
The Seven Years War united the once divergent colonies by giving them a general opponent, the French and Spanish in their fight for land. As the British brought these unwanted grievances, the colonists found another reason to unite together and fight, igniting the flame for the American Revolution. First, because Americans had no voice in the Parliament, the colonists protested against the taxation laws saying “No taxation without representation”. To control the outraged revolts, Britain sent troops to America and forced the colonists to house the soldiers and provide them food, which many colonists saw as an invading of property. Lastly, after the Seven Years War, King George III rewarded the Native American tribes that aided the British in the war by making the Proclamation Line of 1763, which forbade white settlement past the Appalachian Mountains. This infuriated the colonists who were planning on finding land and settling out
The French and Indian War also known as the Seven Year War was the bloodiest American war in the 1700s. After the French and Indian War, Britain wanted to control the expansion into the western territories. With this the king of Britain issued the Proclamation
Throughout the 18th century, The French and Indian War (1754-63), also known as the Seven Years’ War, altered the relationship between Britain and its American colonies politically, economically, and also in ideological ways. During this time, the country with the most land had the most power. Britain and France had a lot of conflicts because Britain felt threatened by French. Britain was not pleased with the fact that France was expanding into the Ohio River, however Britain eventually won the war. The War was ended by the Treaty of Paris 1763.Britain gained control over Canada and Florida and they were able to open The Mississippi valley westward. Britain gained the entire eastern coastline of North America and also France, which caused
The Seven Years’ War (French and Indian War, 1754-1763) marked a turning point in the American relations with Great Britain by uniting the colonies for the first time and giving them the desire to break away from England. Benjamin Franklin proposed the Albany Plan of Union in 1754, which would have created an inter-colonial government and a system to collect taxes to provide for the colonies’ defense. This plan was rejected by the colonies, but was the beginning of the American quest for independence. Even though the British encouraged the colonists to fight beside them in the Seven Years’ War, once it was over, the British returned to ruling over the colonies as they had before. William Pitt, the English Prime Minister during the war,
The Seven Years War (1754-1763), also known as the French and Indian War, erupted between France and England over the fur trade in the Ohio River Valley. The valley was a source where fur trade between the natives and colonists took place, which the French had a close foothold of to their advantage when they built their forts there. France was allied with two native tribes, the Anglonquians and Hurons, and Great Britain was allied with the Iroquois, and both nations learned to fight guerilla style, but ultimately France faced a defeat by General Braddock and George Washington’s forces at Fort Duquesne, and it wasn’t until the Peace treaty of Paris in 1763 was signed that officially ended the war. This resulted in France being completely kicked out of North America, so the British acquired all of Canada and the land leading up to the Mississippi river. This marks a turning point in relations between Americans and the British when changes in tighter British control and the colonists growing resentment towards Great Britain occurred, however, continuities remained before the war like the loyalty to Britain.
The French and Indian war was fought between Great Britain and France from 1754 to 1763. Also known as the Seven Year’s War, this confrontation eventually erupted into an all out worldwide conflict. Its effects were not only immediate but long term. Although the colonies were not directly tied to the war, it greatly impacted them as well as modern America.
The war had a profound result with the British having rule of North America. The Seven Years War ended with the French signed the Treaty of Paris in 1763. French territory, New France had ceased to exist, the British gained control of the lands that extended from Canada to Florida with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
The governor of Virginia granted land to the Ohio Company. The French moved into Mississippi and Ohio and made relations with the Native Americans to dominate the fur and deer skins trade. The Ohio Company’s new land made the Native Americans and the French upset because they believed they had rights to that land. This disagreement lead to the British attacking the French from forts they were constructing. This attack was unsuccessful and lead to another successful attack. Finally, the British captured Fort Dugresne, Fort Louisburg and Fort Ticonderoga. The biggest victory is went the British gained the Plains of Abraham and later Montreal.
The American Revolution was far from being the first conflict to occur on the soil of the New World. There were multiple skirmishes, battles, and official wars fought in the territory that resulted in severe bloodshed before the idea of the American Revolution was even conceived. One of the most significant of these wars was the French and Indian War or as it was known in Europe, the Seven Years’ War. At its conclusion in 1763, the Treaty of Paris was signed. The English received a substantial amount of new land for the Empire (94). However, with the acquisition of new land and a significant amount of debt from the extensive war efforts, the British government had to reevaluate many of their policies (95-96). After the Treaty of Paris of 1763, the British were confident in their mastery of North America. However by attempting to tighten their control over their American colonies they initiated a series of poorly thought out programs and policies which resulted in a disastrous rebellion.
The Seven Years War consisted of almost all European countries, including Great Britain and France, as well as the Colonists and the Indians. Also known as the French and Indian War, the war started in 1754 and ended in 1763, with Great Britain being the victor and allowing the nation to gain more control of the colonies in North America. The Seven Years War caused a major turning point in American relations with Great Britain, including Great Britain having now a greater control over North America, while still having colonists who were loyal to the British.
The French and Indian wars is the general name for a series of wars and conflicts between Great Britain and France during a period of 75 years. The fought over the possession of North America for territorial expansion in general, and for the rich fur trade around the Hudson Bay region specifically.
Britain began to be very over populated, which means the british wanted to expand and move into the Ohio Valley area right along the Appalachian Mountains and Mississippi River. In order for the French to keep Canada connected with the lower part of the Mississippi as well as the Caribbean the French needed to keep that land. Nobody looked at whose land this really was,
There has been contention between Britain and France for thousands of years. During the 1700’s this came to a head as Britain and its’ North American colonies tried to expand in size and trade. This could not be done without intruding on French land. This caused France to take an offensive position alongside their Indian allies against their biggest rival. Britain and its colonies persisted forward resulting in The Seven Years’ War or, as some call it, The French and Indian War. The Seven Years’ War was caused by Britain’s need for expansion and resulted in devastating debt, the humiliation of the French, and soured relations between the British and its colonies ultimately leading to the American Revolution.
The Seven Years War, or sometimes referred to as the French and Indian war, took place in the year 1754 and finally came to a conclusion in 1763, just prior to the American Revolution. The French and Indian war is often a war that’s importance is overlooked throughout the history of America. The French and Indian war set the stage for the George Washington to become the most important American figure in history. The events and battles of the Seven Years War would lead the colonist to helping the British defeat the French and their counterparts, the Native Americans. What took place during the Seven Years War would affect the colonist forever. The war would ultimately change the focus and mindset of the colonist. The colonist would begin to
Since the beginning of history, wars have been fought to gain territories, independence, or to fight against those who take away one’s rights. The French and Indian War was fought in North America over the Ohio Valley, however, it is much more than just a war to gain territory. This war opened doors to the colonists who decided that fighting for independence was something they were in need of doing. The French and Indian War was the portion of the Seven Year’s War that was fought in North America between Great Britain and France. Within every war there are winners and losers. There are never two winners in a war. With Great Britain’s anate ability to fight France overseas in the Atlantic Ocean was how they received their win in the French and Indian War. Although, Great Britain won the war while France lost, both of these countries had many positive and negative affects during and after the war.
The Seven Years War proved to be a crossroads in the history of British colonial rule in America. Britain was victorious, but after defeating her French foes (along with their Indian allies), Britain was left to contemplate the ramifications of a war that would leave her relationship with her American colonies altered forever. This change would eventually lead to conflict between the colonies and Britain, and ultimately the Declaration of American Independence.
