The Seediq were a group of aboriginal people living in Taiwan. The Seediq live in the current counties of Nantou and Hualian. During the late 19th and early 20th century, the Seediq were treated as barbarians by the Japanese colonial forces occupying Taiwan. The Japanese government wanted to take away the land the Seediq had lived on for centuries. Additionally, they wanted to relocate the Seediq to other areas of Taiwan. The Japanese army also captured the aboriginal people and used them as slaves. The Aborgines decided to rebel against their colonial oppressors in 1930. On October 27th, 1930, 300 aborginal soldiers attacked the Japanese army and killed 130 men. Their leader was Mona Rudao and he is responsible for carrying out the attack.
