One lesson I learned from The sayings of Poor Richard by Ben Franklin was that actions speak louder than words. Franklin said “He that composes himself is wiser than he that composes books.”(Franklin) This analogy is saying I shouldn’t criticize how others act, if I don’t act the way I should. In the story, Poor Richard was trying to find the ways to achieve moral perfection. He believed that being able to compose yourself is way more important than telling others what to do. Composing yourself means to watch your own actions, and strive to be morally excellent. Somebody’s actions shows the kind of person they are, not what they say. Being “all-talk” can make an individual appear a fool. It’s a lot easier to say something then do something.

Sokolow begins the article by introducing us to Leo Tolstoy, and Russian who is not pleased with the idea of art at the time. He explains how Tolstoy went back to his adolescent learnings and used the eighteenth-century for his inspiration. He was able to do this because growing up he spent his summer reading eighteenth-century writings like Goldsmith and Sterne, but is was those of Benjamin Franklin that inspired him the most. Sokolow mentions how Franklin was popular in Russia during his time, so it makes since that Tolstoy had easy access to his works. Tolstoy read Franklin’s works during his summers while vacationing at his family’s home. Here he mentioned Franklin’s works in his journals, more specifically Franklin’s “rules of conduct.”
Benjamin Franklin came up with the idea to make his life better by trying to be perfect in every way. This can otherwise be known as trying to reach a state of moral perfection, in which one could find themselves being happy with the life they live, and also living a pure, sinless life. It has come to be questioned if attempting to achieve moral perfection is a worthwhile goal. In the end of his experiment he ended up not being able to reach or achieve his goal but learned a very crucial, very valuable lesson. He discovered throughout the recesses of his journey that achieving his goal would be found to be impossible, but in turn he learned that many of the virtues are good to try and maintain during everyday activities and through life
There were many people that helped contribute to the Enlightenment, but the most prominent American leader was a well-know political figure named Benjamin Franklin. It also emphasized progression away from traditional customs and foundations
Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography is an inspiring tale of his personal, as well as public achievement throughout his life. Franklin’s life embodies the exemplary model of a life composed of discipline, self-reliance and self improvement. From his humble beginnings as an apprentice candle and soap maker in his father’s business to a successful business man, author, philosopher, civil activist, politician scientist, inventor, and diplomat, above all Benjamin Franklin was, and still is, an American Icon and truly a pioneer of the American Dream.

In chapter 5 of Benjamin Franklin's biography, "To the Inhabitants of the Counties of Lancaster, York, and Cuberland." Benjamin Franklin is trying to help out the troops and send them a supplies that included 6lbs. of chocolate. I agree that the 6 lbs. of chocolate should be included in the supplies.
Ben Franklin’s autobiography is a prime example of the American Dream. He starts life in a large family and is sent to find work fairly early. He grows into an educated, humble, and honorable man. Through his work in printing and writing he develops a formidable business and makes some money. Throughout his life he focuses greatly on achieving perfection, but finds that is not very practical, however it does lead him to happiness. He wrote this autobiography as a path, to live a life of virtue, mainly for his son. However, it has become a moral guide and tale of the so called American Dream. While there are several ways to interpret his writing and his character, Benjamin Franklin is one of the best examples of a pure and honest American.
If I could have dinner with any revolutionary it would be Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was one of the 5 founders of The United States. He was also one of the 5 founding fathers to negotiate the Treaty of Paris after the war. Benjamin Franklin was known as an author, entrepuner, politician and a representive for England and France. He had a passion for technology; he invented stoves, bifocals, lighting rod, and swim fin at the age of 11 years old, and glass harmonicas. However, he was the founder and co founder of University of Pennsylvania. During our conversations I would find intersecting facts about him and things we have in common. While eating a delicious dinner I would discuss with him his experience back then and if he had the chance
In Benjamin Franklin’s publication, Poor Richard’s Almanac, he is directing his almanac towards the common people. Franklin took pleasure into creating his almanacs which led him into a wealthy direction. In Document 1, Franking states in his almanac “While thou art putting Pence in my Pocket, and furnishing my Cottage with Necessaries, Poor Dick is not unmindful to do something for thy Benefit.” Franklin proclaims his view on human nature by indicating that he gets his wealthy from the numerous amount of people purchasing his almanac. In addition, he subtly describes human nature by making jokes throughout his almanac to keep the audience attentive. However, Franklin’s almanac is slightly different from Whitefield and Edwards due to the fact that he does not emphasize religious beliefs nearly as much as the other two authors but gives practical advice. With that being said, Franklin’s main motive was to keeps his readers interested with the anticipation of getting profit.
Benjamin Franklin is revered by Americans as one of its most revered and adored founding fathers. For foreigners, Benjamin Franklin became the very icon of America, not only because he was accomplished, but because he was a new man, a man that could only have been made in America. Franklin came to be seen as the embodiment of American values.
Benjamin Franklin is considered one of the most realistic and wisest men in the history of America. He is known for his stand on the necessity for the individual to work hard and to be frugal in order to reach success. In the presented essay, “The Way to Wealth”, he makes mention of various aphorisms and pieces of advice which express his views and opinions about morals, ethics, life, taxes, debts, etc. Among those pieces of advice that he offers his audience, we find the phrase “employ thy time well if thou meanest to gain leisure; and, since thou art not sure of a minute, throw not away an hour.” Although much of his work is devoted to the importance of industry and of frugality, here Franklin discusses the difference between being lazy and having leisure. He places emphasis on how without working hard and in a conscious way, the individual will never be able to have time for pastimes or leisure. Instead of viewing laziness and fun as the ultimate goal an individual must aim for, Franklin advices about using the time in a profitable way. To him, labor brings more comfort than idleness or laziness, as when the individual is idle or bored, he manages to commit mischief. Moreover, it is his belief that one cannot just be in a useless position the whole time, lest poverty and necessity strike. Therefore, Franklin argues, it is important to find useful things to do with one’s time, but things that bring enjoyment, in order for one to work hard at them. Once the
Ben Franklin’s letter to one of his dearest friends is a story that has so many accounts of degrading women in it that it makes me sick to my stomach. The title that many have given to his letter is one that disturbs me, Advice on Choosing a Mistress. He outlines many reasons to choose an older lady over a younger one, I am sickened by his reasons to do so. I will not go unheard on this topic and I will hop on my soap box about these ideas that Ben Franklin states. So simply I state that his ideas clash with my views of the world.

Franklin was always curios about they way things work, and he always tried to find ways to make them work better. Even though he started out as a published, he was always interested in science. However this interest soon became a passion to Franklin. He even retired from his publishing business to work in a laboratory with his mostly homemade equipment.
