Before Illinois became a territory, its land has been used for agricultures. Centuries later, easier transportation options came about. Because of transportation, the crops are easier to move about, yet major roadways have caused boomtowns to pop up out of nowhere, taking away agricultural land. Look at the Shilo/O'fallon area. So much has changed and been added since Belleville refused to allow Interstate 64 to run through the city. This caused businesses to develop and farm land to be taken away by these businesses. Just from this example, it can be seen that transportation has had a profound effect on agriculture in Illinois.

During the time period of 1865-1900 American agriculture changed greatly. Several components such as technology, government policy, and economic conditions caused agriculture to transform in the way it did. The main advancements in technology were new farming machinery and the growth in the railroad, both benefited the farmers grow and move crops. The government policies seemed to never favor the farmers, they passed laws making it harder for farmers to make a living. The economic conditions for farmers became rough due to the price of crops dropping from overproduction.
Illinois became Frances agricultural Empire In North America because of the “Surprising amounts” of grain that was produced there.
The Farmers’ Alliance was heard through the initiation of Illinois implementing freight rates to limit the price at which certain cargo is delivered (Document C). Though the farmers’ voice was acknowledged, this was one of the few events in which their desires were met and would not be recognized in future years.Chicago would become a leading influence on the railroad because of its growing meatpacking industry. Five railroads concluded its path in Chicago and technological advancements altered the method of cattle ranching and promoted industry (Document F).Along with technological innovations and improvements of railroads, production of wheat, cotton, and corn increased from 1865-1900 (Document A). Agricultural methods now entailed commercial farming and chemical fertilizers to increase rates or production. Despite this fact, America still underwent times of vast strain due to the Panic of 1873, as well as the Panic of 1893. During this time, agriculture’s overproduction and inflation led to an upward spiral in economic frustration. The use of the combine fueled the intense overproduction of this time period (Document D). Following overproduction, prices per bushel of wheat saw a dramatic decrease in price (Document A)
In the time period between 1865 and 1900 technology, government policy, and economic conditions really changed American agriculture. The technology made farming more efficient, and more profitable. Government policies both helped and hindered farmers with helping them transport their products, but they also “stole” from the farmers to help make the government more money. The economic conditions helped farmers with selling more products, and helping cities grow;along with starving families almost to death. All of these coming together really changed American agriculture.
The state has normal voting requirements and early voting is available (Illinois State Board of Elections, 2015). Illinois has an interesting type of primary system. It has a mix between open and closed (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2014). It can be seen and seems really obvious to me that the nature of elections in Illinois is dirty (Scheele, Losco, Hall, 2012).
The change of Northern Illinois University’s bus system is demanded throughout campus through various sources. The issue comes in hand of the student’s safety through afternoon times. Our current bus system puts not only the student’s safety on line but its staff as well. The fact of the line is, having one bus running throughout an 800 acres campus does not make it safe for students and staff to get from one place of campus to another. It’s a way to save money rather than helping students get around campus in a safe and efficient way. Although there will be more money needed to add the number of buses running after 7pm, the investment is crucial for students’ safety
During the 1910’s and 20’s the plains were unusually wet and seen as the ideal place for farming. The plains had great top soil at one point, but after the World War I cattle men over populated the prairies with cattle taking away the grass that once held the soil in place. The price of agriculture went down during the great depression, to make up for the money loss farmers needed to sell more crops. Wheat demand went through the

Farmland got its start in 1852 after being founded by Henry D. Huffman and William Macy as a station on the Bellfontaine Railroad. On July 28th 1852 the two gentlemen platted Farmland on their farms. The town consisted of 152 lots including 6 streets, all of which are present today. Many cities that started on the railroad were thrust into a thriving economical environment. Being a station this allowed the city to quickly increase its population and annual revenue. There were many people that saw this economic opportunity and started forming farms alongside the town because it gave them quick access to the railroad. Thus their transportation costs were lower than other farmers. The agricultural business started to boom in the small town and drew more people into the town. People seized the economic opportunities that presented themselves. Sadly though the town did grow slow. But in 1870 the census found 532 people residing there. Starting from just two families the town gained over 500 residents in just 18 years. That is truly remarkable for the time that our nation was in.
Illinois has some intriguing history to it. For example, the name “Illinois” comes from an Algonquin word, Illini, meaning men, or warriors (Student Learning Center). When the French settlers crossed paths with the Algonquin tribe, they decided to use the French version of the word. This eventually became the name of the state, although it was originally the name of one of the rivers. The very first bridge to be built on the Mississippi River was crossed by the very first railroad train in Illinois in the city Rock Island (Burgan 9). Illinois also has a history of entertainment. In 1893, there was a convention called the “World’s Columbian Exposition”. It celebrated the 400-year anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s journey to the

There many things that the state of Illinois has done that they claim they were the first in the nation ever do, we had the very first skyscraper in the world, we had the first deep dish pizza and we also elected the very first African-American president of the United States. One of the other things at the state of Illinois was first and is we were the first state in the entire nation to have a juvenile court unlike the other first that I mentioned this one seldom ignites a passionate discussion or even impresses many people, the very first juvenile court in America was founded in Cook County in 1909 soon after the rest of Illinois and then the nation implemented very similar courts. These courts were first designed to help wayward use find
