In the article,“Sahara dust only ‘partly responsible’ for UK’s worst pollution event in 10 years” by John Vidal, reveals the issues that are being caused by major pollution; it was not only the Saharan dust but other effects as well. In the UK an event occurred for two weeks in March and April of 2014; the pollution was raised extremely so where it was dangerous for people to leave their homes at times. This damaging incident interfered with people’s lives it was not a quick thing that was over and done. The citizens of Europe, but the people who were primarily affected are those who live in southern UK and France. This issue may be mainly situated in the UK but that does not mean there are concerns in other countries as well. There are many …show more content…
The government has known that the pollution has been a problem and they have not done anything to help it yet. According to a study, this pollution problem is not only the Saharan dust but from “farmers fertilising their fields and industrial emissions” (Vidal, 2016, para. 1). With the study being released it informs the public the truth about what is indeed making their environment hazardous to breathe in. People were believing the ‘lies’ that were told to them by politicians such as prime minister David Cameron (caption, image 1). It can be difficult to believe in those who have power at times because society can be vulnerable to what they have to say. It has been three years since the event of the highest point of pollution and it has been now confirmed where that ‘natural’ pollution came …show more content…
The people who wrote the study have found that the pollution is coming from the fertilizers -that contains ammonia- being spread all over crops which is interfering “with local pollution, from industry and traffic” (Vidal, 2016, para. 9). The government has not done anything to prevent this from becoming worse, because they assumed that is was out of their control; it was in nature’s hand; when it in fact was not. If the government did their research they may have found what or where the pollution is coming from. A case by lawyer Alan Andrews who works for ClientEarth has been placed against the government’s cleanup plan due to the fact that this ‘pollution could in fact have been prevented (para. 14). The United Kingdom should have never come to be this serious without finding out what made the air, environment, and surroundings so dangerous to live. A runner was unable to take his daily run because it was “unpleasant” and felt “in the air” (para. 4). It someone can feel themselves breathing in dust particles I would be worried myself. However the study has created a plan on reducing the emissions of ammonia to decrease the pollution emissions from 24 to 11% by 2030 (para. 17). Andrews points out a serious problem of how the pollution “chokes our towns and cities on a daily basis”. This is not something that people want to hear, but run away. Hopefully, the government will change their plan on
This source features a report by Jill U. Adams on the dangers, and current regulations of air pollution and climate change. Holding a Ph.D. in pharmacology from Emory University, the author primarily writes a health column for the Washington Post. She has also been featured in the magazines Audubon, Scientific American and Science. Because this article covers climate change, there is an inherent liberal bias. However, this bias coincides with irrefutable scientific data proving the existence of climate change. The audience for this article is anyone effected by air pollution and climate change; just about everyone. This source upholds my speculation that human beings have a significant effect on the climate. Before reading this article, I wasn’t aware that 55 million people a year died from air pollution. I found this source on CQ Researcher while searching for ‘pollution.’
Air pollution continues to be a significant problem in the city of Birmingham, as it has been for decades. No one enjoys walking the streets of Birmingham only to taste or smell the smoke and particulates in the air, not to mention the damaging effects to one’s health. Fortunately, improvements have been made; forty years ago, residents of Birmingham could not even see the skyline due to the immense amounts of particulates in the air, but now the skyline is visible on a daily basis. The noticeable improvement indicates the progress that has been made over the years, but there is still plenty of room for much needed improvement. Birmingham’s air quality is among some of the worst in the United States, but there are several feasible and
Not only does it affect our agriculture, but it affects our health and way of living. Overconsumption has a profound effect on greenhouse gas emissions, the impact of society’s high standards and wants has created new childhood morbidities and health issues. Chronic childhood diseases are linked to toxic chemical exposures produced my production companies. Steingraber explains how one in eight children are born prematurely, which is costing $26 billion per year in medical cost (par. 20). Preterm birth is linked to air pollution and particles produced by power plants. Preterm birth is not the only health issues linked with pollution, but neurodevelopmental disorder and asthma is also linked to air pollution. These health issues now appear almost normal or inevitable. The issue at hand is that we do not identify, nor do we amend the issue that is causing cancer and other health
Globally, many countries are increasingly feeling the effects of environmental degradation. This has been occasioned by the increasingly evident effects of poor environmental conservation policy. There are currently taking the brunt of environmental degradation that has been occasioned by rapid the industrialization that has occurred both within and out of the country. “Air pollution has been at fault for a significant portion of the country’s environmental problems. Studies have identified the country’s economic boom as major contributor to this (Jitendra and Tanvi, 42)”. In East Asia, yellow dust it calls “Asian dust” is the biggest issue, which is mostly influenced by China’s industrialization and coal burning electrical generating plants. The main issue concerning South Korea and Japan is the air pollution caused by China's rapid economic growth crossing the boundaries into these two countries, it is blown from China to Korea and Japan causing hazardous air pollution. There causes many problems, it occurs respiratory problems, an increase in incidence of acid rain, highway accidents, and forcing many residents to stay home. Also, dust will enter a human’s mouth and organ which will cause respiratory problems through inhalation. “Air pollutants are gaseous or particulate matter which that have an impact on human health and natural ecosystems” (Lee, Adeel, 134).
In the article, “Sahara dust only ‘partly responsible’ for UK’s worst pollution event in 10 years” by John Vidal, reveals the issues that are being caused by major pollution. The United Kingdom has experienced high levels of pollutions because of the strong winds coming from the Sahara Desert. Even though the pollution has had a major effect on the world it was not only the Saharan dust, but other effects as well. An event that began the commotion of the pollution issue occurred for two weeks in March and April of 2014; the particulate matter was raised extremely so where it was dangerous for people to leave their homes. This damaging incident interfered with people’s lives; it was not a quick disruption that was over and done. The citizens of Europe who were primarily affected are those who live in southern United Kingdom and France. This issue may be mainly situated in the United Kingdom, but that does not mean there are concerns in other countries as well.
Everyone today contributes to pollution in some way or another. Daily routines such as driving to work or cooking release hazardous gases and numerous other toxins in the air. The same toxins released can cause harm to the lungs or even kill due to the carcinogens. Not only does the polluted air harm people but the effect to the planet is vast as well. Issues such as global warming, acid rain, and droughts are evidently linked to polluted air. Though pollution is not solely based in the air, many other forms exist as well like water, radioactive, and thermal/heat pollution. Yet the sad reality is, many people are exposed to it far more than others because of their ethnic backgrounds or for poverty based reasons. Communities with lower income
Air Pollution today has lead CDC's fight against environmental -related respiratory illness, including asthma. An estimated number of 6.5 million deaths are attributed each year to poor air quality, making this the world's largest threat to human health.According to the World Energy Outlook and the IEA estimate that death due to household air pollution in Africa may decrease by 110,00 to 2040.However, due to economic growth, urbanization and automobile emissions, outdoor air pollution may rise from 300,00 to 450,000 over the same period. Am going to be looking at the causes of air pollution. the problems emerging with air pollution and also how we as a community can help decrease the amount of death rate associated with air pollution.I remember growing up in Africa Air pollution was always a talk about a subject that always comes out because it is really contagious due to the fact that we are breathing bad air that is caused by our human contribution to the environment.Air pollution is considered to be a public health problem, it is responsible for most of our health problems after some research has been conducted in many different parts of the world and regions. According to the Geochemistry and Health paleopathological research suggests that air pollution is a form of smoke, plagued our oldest ancestors.Air pollution has emerged as one of the leading risk factors for stroke worldwide.

Introduction: The skies of the Central Valley are covered with bad air pollution that can easily be spotted from long distances. In recent years we believed the cloud of pollution came from factories and power plants, but a recent study says differently. The effects on the other side of the continent affects us too. The negative effects that have transcribed from the bad air quality are shortage of breath because our lungs got weaker from inhaling bad air which has led to cases of asthma. Children are hurt by the bad air quality too, since they are outside playing and inhaling the bad air to their small lungs. The actions we and big industries need to take to make sure we lower the pollution
There is much controversy concerning Carbon Dioxide emissions in recent years and the effect these emissions have on the environment. As people continue to be more interested in profits than in environmental matters conditions are likely to worsen in the near future. It is actually surprising to observe how in spite of data pointing toward the belief that CO2 emissions have a particularly negative on the environment people fail to express enough concern about this general situations. More and more environmental agencies and strategies have emerged during recent years but they have had a limited effect on CO2 emissions and this is largely owed to the fact that the general public is still reluctant to get actively involved in fighting on behalf of the environment.
Air pollution are impacting the environment, and it is imperative that laws are enforced to help build and sustain a better air quality. Air pollutants can be in the form of particulate matter which can be very harmful to our health. Stimulation to our eyes, nose, throat, and breathing infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia are all short-term effects. You’re head might hurt, you might want to puke, and you might have allergic reactions. Short-term air pollution can put people with asthma and emphysema in a worse condition. Long lasting breathing disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to your brains, nerves, livers, or kidneys are all long-term effects. If you’re exposed to air pollution continuously, it would affect children’s lungs and may complicate medical conditions for the elders. Some people argue and deny the bad air problem. They claim that pollution may actually be good for the Earth. The hazy weather caused by pollution has made plants far more productive when it comes to scrubbing greenhouse gasses out of the air. Pollution has turned plants into better carbon dioxide processing machines. But this is bad for our own health. Pollution is causing global warming which leads to massive ice land melting. Polar bears and other animals that live there are losing there habitats and even dying. Melting ice could also lead to more sea water which would bury some cities or land near the coastal areas. There is already a tremendous amount of people on this planet. If our land decreases, and our population continues to increase, some people would have to start living on another planet; therefore, making it a priority to address the areas
pollution could have inflicted irreversible changes to the health and well-being of the next generation. The long-term changes to health could have important implications to the future of the world.
Your day has been great so far. You went on vacation, you found a dollar bill on the floor, you ate your favorite dish, nothing can be better than this. As soon as you walk on the boardwalk you are hoping to see big waves and fish in the sea, instead, you see dead fish and some animals floating in the water next to old car tires, trash, and fertilizer. Now you feel terrible and want to go home. Pollution is devastating. The reason why I researched this topic is that I do not want my family nor my planet to get sick. Pollution can be stopped very easily, it’s just that people “don’t know” how to stop or they just don’t care, which is a serious problem. I want people to see that pollution is mainly caused by humans, and also for them to see that it is a horrible thing that is happening. Some kids litter because they see their parents and their whole family doing it. When I was researching this topic, I noticed that I needed to find out more information, so I asked questions to myself. When did pollution get so bad? How many animals have gone extinct because of pollution? How many people die each year because of pollution? How much does everyone on the planet pollute each year? What is the best way to stop pollution? Can just one person make a difference? After a lot of research, I found out lots of ways that we can stop pollution, so it is possible to end it. Or at least improve the air.
Through recent studies, scientists have noticed that political issues have actually made the air in the Middle East cleaner. Scientists have discovered this because of the significant changes they can see from space. These scientists looked at 10 years of recorded data taken by NASA’s Aura spacecraft which records the Ozone levels such as nitrogen oxide. Nitrogen oxide emissions have dropped because of the civil war in Syria, movement of refugees, new environmental safety laws and the amounts of fossil fuels used in the Middle East. Scientists have found that 58% of nitrogen oxide emissions around the world are cause by the burning of fossil fuels. Since the Middle East has more fossil fuels, they produce more nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. In places such as Saudi Arabia, within 5 years, their general energy consumption rose along with their nitrogen oxide levels. During those five years, Saudi Arabia passed a law that was aimed toward reducing the country’s environmental footprint causing the consumption to continue to rise while the nitrogen oxide emissions dropped. Other Middle Eastern countries such as Kuwait started putting their own air quality standards into play proving that air control is successful. These standards were leading other countries like the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa to pass a Clean Air Law. The result of the Clean Air Law was as successful as the law passed in Saudi Arabia. Other causes for the drops in emission levels were not as
Air, is one of the most substantial source to mankind and our planet. While it exists, so does everything else along. However, in today’s epidemic, there has been certain factors that have increased in understanding whether the air we breathe today is healthy or not? Is it doing more harm than we thought? In other words, the health risks against air pollution have risen in the past few decades; all from what you may ask? Well, it could be for various factors and evaluations; either environmental or materialistic. Pollution is a major public health crisis in the world. (Friis, 2012). This is one of the conflicts that contribute to various aspects of an individual’s life, whether they may realize it or not. In this paper will include the sources that cause pollution with the effects it cause as well as policies on the regulation of air pollution.
