The Grunt Padre by Father Daniel Mode is a book that tells about faithful hero Father Vincent Capodanno. He is a faithful hero because of everything he has done for his faith. Not only was he sent to be a missionary; he was also a military chaplain during the Vietnam War. Father Capodanno was very much devoted to his Christian faith. He died as a martyr for his faith. For these reasons, Father Vincent Capodanno can very much be considered a “role model” to the Christian faith. Vincent Capodanno was named after his father. He was born on February 13th of the year 1929. He was born in Staten Island to an all-Italian family. Coming from an all-Italian background, his family had brought Vincent up to be very devoted and faithful to his religion being Christianity. Vincent went through all years all schooling including college. After college he realized that he wanted to become a priest. In 1958 he was ordained a priest and from then his good acts and faithful ways were to begin. …show more content…
A missionary is someone who gets sent to a destination and his/her task is to spread the Christian faith throughout that place. Vincent was a missionary in Taiwan for several years. He was very devoted to spreading the Christian faith in Taiwan in order to help children and adults in the area. For Vincent to go to a place that far from home and staying there for that amount of time takes true devotion. From him doing this, it shows that he is faithful and is very devoted to his faith. Not everyone would be able to do what he did for that amount of

Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them fishermen of men. Jesus taught anywhere. Jesus delivered the word so profoundly.
In the first chapter of “Christianity Rediscovered” by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says “History has offered the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age”. For a long time a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today’s age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting.
After living in London and Paris for Goupil & Co., Vincent’s employment came to an end in the first month of 1876. He then followed his father’s footsteps and worked as an evangelist for six months, before the Committee decided he was not fit for the work. Vincent was unsuccessful at several more jobs, and letters between the family members further revel their unease. His mother showed great concern for him in her letter to Theo,
“I don’t know how I can live with myself if I don’t stay true to what I believe.”, this statement from a movie about Desmond Doss called Hacksaw Ridge neatly sums up his actual life as well as the reasons Desmond Doss is a hero both morally and in real life. Desmond Doss was a medic in World War II who earned both his Medal of Honor and his title of being a moral hero at the battle of Okinawa. Desmond Doss’s refusal to carry arms into the midst of the battle of Okinawa and the saving of his abusive comrades in the heat of battle shows me that if this man can be incredibly kind to his aggressors and follow his beliefs in the face of persecution, then I too can love my enemies in much easier circumstances.
When Van Gogh was sixteen, his first job was working for his uncle at Goupil et Cie, an art gallery in The Hague. When he was nineteen he went to work at the Groupil Gallery in London and then to the gallery in Paris. He was finally fired from the gallery because he was not happy with his job and discoursed customers from buying the artwork. After that he decided that he wanted to be a preacher and studied to get into a theological school but failed. In 1879 he went to Borinage, a coal mining town, as a missionary to the poor coal miners. He lasted there a couple of years and then was dismissed.
To be a missionary in early Christian times was a very dangerous and risky thing to do. Before Constantine ordered the Edict of Milan in 313 AD, Christians were persecuted for their beliefs. So to go out and openly preach their faith and even try and turn people away from the worship of their original gods was something that could ultimately end up with you being executed - which is something many early missionaries were (martyred). However, many faithful servants of Jesus (such as the apostles) did it anyway, because they believed that spreading the Word of God was more important than anything else.
Giovanni attended the University of Paris from 1235-1243 and received a master of arts degree. He then studied theology with the Franciscan order from 1244-1248, who named him Bonaventure, which means good fortune
Paul wrote letters to churches and went on long, dangerous journeys in order to share the Word. Humbly serving the Lord, no matter what the cost, he became a disciple who made disciples. His personal, deep relationship with Timothy reveals the kind of atmosphere and level of commitment required in discipleship. The discipleship model Paul follows allows for a personally invested relationship between any amount of gathered people whether it be an entire church congregation, a small group, or
Missionary expansion throughout the centuries has taken a hard, often violent road. The expansion of Christianity begins with the adherents of Jesus Christ and ended with the premature demise of many of the disciples. In the centuries following the disciples, many missionaries were faced with percussion and death as the gospel was proclaimed. As missionary expansion occurs throughout the centuries, often times facing trial and difficulty, the question comes up; is the capital cost of missionary expansion worth the monetary value? This paper will highlight many trials that have been faced by three missionaries in particular and explain often by the words of these missionaries why the enormous cost of missionary expansion is worth the cost. The thesis of this paper is: everyone is called to preach the gospel; the calling of the missionary is called to live by faith even when facing difficulty.
