Today the cafeteria ladies said that we can't eat Cheez-its in the cafeteria anymore. They banned them because a Cheez-it war broke out. They were flying around the cafeteria. At first I thought they were bullets! My friend Kaden started the whole thing. He thought that it would be fun. So he threw some at Cade. Cade got mad so he threw some back. Then all of a sudden, the whole cafeteria was throwing Cheez-its. Even the “good” kids were involved in the war. We thought it was fun, but the principle didn't think so. Some of us even started throwing them at him. That got us in a lot of trouble. We were unstoppable! It took the whole teaching staff to finally get us under control. The principle yelled at us for 30 minutes straight. He said that
Cheez-its are no longer allowed in the cafeteria. I found a note on the door saying it was from the incident on November 14. I think it was from those two kids who stole all of the cheez-its from the cafeteria. The day before the incident I overheard them saying that they were going to sneak in the cafeteria and grab the boxes of cheez-its. Of course I thought they were just making a joke, but the next day the lunch ladies were asking the principal if they seen anybody take the cheez-its. The principal didn’t see anybody, so he check on the security camera. When he checked the security camera, it was broken. The principal asked everybody if anybody saw anything, but everybody said no. Then the principal asked those two boys and boys were a little
Many people have grown up around school lunches without knowing much about them. With these people trusting the schools to serve healthy lunches to students, not many people care to worry about what they are eating. Growing up ignorant about food is easy to do, but why settle for convenience if it harms the body? In Melanie Warner’s novel, Pandora’s Lunchbox: How Processed Food took over the American Meal, she goes over the history and science of many well-known food companies and the products these corporations sell to individuals. Warner explains how food science became popular to study and how progressive America’s food technology has come. Pandora’s Lunchbox is a remarkable read through its personal stories and demonstrations. Despite her fruitless comments about the science of food, Warner’s approach shows that her writing style and personal testimonies connect with the reader.
industry has been facing challenges. The industry is in a decline. This is because people may be
On November 14, 2015, Cheez-Its were banned for the rest of the year in the school cafeteria. A table of 8th graders weren’t paying attention to who was around them, which happened to be the principal. They were throwing a whole box of Cheez-Its across the cafeteria, attempting to start a food fight. It started as a small problem, but after 2 minutes, the whole middle school was throwing food around. It was getting out of control. The principal attempted to bring an end to the chaos, but he had no success. Soon, all of the teachers entered the cafeteria to assist the principal. Nobody could stop the mess, so the students kept throwing Cheez-Its. They weren’t aware of what was coming next. “If this goes on any longer, the whole school will have
One of the most notable advocates of school reforms is British chef Jamie Oliver, whose 'food revolution' popularized on his prime time reality TV show highlighted the lack of nutritious school food in many areas of the country. Oliver's program has drawn the ire of many critics liberal as well as conservative. One critic, Chez Pazienza, a fan of Oliver, as a chef, found the project to reform school lunches to be a rather disturbing limitation on children's personal freedoms. "I get the argument that little good comes from giving kids milk that pumps them full of sugar and empty calories, but is an outright ban on it really the way to go? What about the child who just likes chocolate milk and can actually
As I made my way to the cafeteria, there was a big broad sign that said, “ Due to the incident on November 14 Cheez-its are no longer allowed in the cafeteria.” As I walked pass the sign I ran into my friends Logan Boggs and Brayden Sanders.
Imagine having to sit quietly every day for lunch, not permitted to speak to your co-workers, laugh with your friends, or catch up on the news with the person sitting across the table from you. Socializing over food is something we do as humans. This is not an American phenomenon, it happens all over the world, and for centuries; entire holidays are spent socializing together over meals. There are however, places that mandate silence during lunch. Surprisingly enough these places are schools, some here in Oregon! Silent lunch effects students in a negative way, by hindering an opportune time to socialize freely with peers and staff; students being made to eat in silence is additionally detrimental to the learning institution.
Schlosser, Eric. Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2001. Print. While I was looking at the cover of the book, I noticed that it included the words “All American Meal”, and I wondered what that meant. For me when I hear those word I picture a McDonald’s, or any other fast food restaurant. Why is that? Is it because the United States comes in at 12th for the most obese country, with 35% of the population in overweight (Worldatlas). Or is it because we have made a name for ourselves, by being the country that consumes the most fast food (Economist)? In the first chapter of the book The American Way, Schlosser is disscussing various fast foods we eat such as McDonald 's, Domino 's, and describes how fast food has impacted American lives, such as obesity in all age groups due to the appeals to younger children. He talks about the McDonald brothers and Carl Karcher and how they established McDonald 's and Carl 's Jr.
Of all of the problems that dishearten children today, the one that bothers them the most is being unhealthy. Five out of six students from the Manalapan Englishtown Middle School agree that there should be a change in the schools' cafeteria foods; they came up with a solution to help kids be healthy. Unhealthy foods should be eliminated in schools for many reasons. First of all, kids concentrate better when they are healthy. Being healthy helps children to concentrate better because if they are healthy in the inside and the outside, they will not have to worry about their health or how they look. Secondly, having only healthy foods in school help parents to take good care of their kids. For instance, imagine a mom that is a seventh
People today believe that the government is supposed to eliminate any possible danger from the food they consume, but that is not the case. In the book Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of The All-American Meal written by Eric Schlosser, he discusses numerous problems with food production. Some of these issues are discussed in the “Epilogue”, “What’s In Meat”, and “Most Dangerous Job” chapters where Schlosser elaborates on the government’s role and how workers are mistreated. In the article, “U.S. Meatpacking Under Fire: Human Rights Group Calls for Line Speed Reduction, ERGO Standards,” it explains how the working conditions in the meat packaging industry are hazardous and are violations of basic human rights. Although workers are affected by the government’s role in the food industry, consumers are affected as well. The consequences of the lack of governmental oversight, like food contamination and others, are discussed in the film Food Inc. “Escaping the Regulatory Net: Why Regulatory Reform Can Fail Consumers”, an academic journal written by Henry Rothstein, explains how “putting consumers first” is difficult for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to accomplish because with consumer’s interests that means regulatory reforms are most likely going to fail.
Everyone loves sugar filled snacks, especially children. A kid’s day can be made so much better just by handing them their favorite candy bar. This is something students looked forward to during their school day. Sadly, this was made to change. Schools started banning snacks, and drinks based on their unhealthy effect they have on individuals. According to Beverly Ballaro and Ann Griswold in "Junk Food in Schools: An Overview,” this change occurred when Michelle Obama launched her project for healthy eating in 2010. Let’s Move! Was her way to fix child obesity in America. This directed schools to feed children healthier options, and twice as many vegetables or fruit. This was not a necessity for public schools across the United States. Students should not be limited to what they eat in school. As long as they are being fed their basic lunch, it should not be important what they decide to snack on.
The author’s intention is to inform the reader that the healthy lunch programs are failing. The author provides plentiful information and research on the failing school lunch programs in the U.S. “In the war to get America’s children to eat healthier, things are not going well.” Kids are not eating their vegetables. This has become a big problem in America and steps need to be taken to stop unhealthy eating. Like The Agriculture Department mandating that students in the federal lunch program choose a fruit or vegetable with their meals. This solution didn’t work and actually worsened the problem. “Their consumption of fruits and vegetables actually went down 13 percent after the mandate took effect.”
Jill Harms is in a dilemma whether to improve the product line (Snacks to go – nuts category) or to drop the line completely.
In many families in our society today, the parents are a part of the sandwich generation and now are raising kids that are growing up to take part in the boomerang generation. The sandwich generation makes up of people who are in their thirties or forties that are trying to raise their own children while looking after their elderly parents. On the other hand, the boomerang generation consists of young adults who graduate high school and college to only come back and live with their parent and rely on their support. As a result of this, there comes many challenges for both the parents and the child since the sandwich generation is stuck in the conflicting nature of taking care of their elderly parents while providing for their children by meeting their needs of emotional love and providing tangible needs. However, many realize that their kids are entering into adulthood and now these parents face the challenge of pushing their children to be independent and take on responsibility while trying to secure a stable retirement.
Is fast food getting to be a problem? Many people love fast food but do not even now what it does to their body. There is getting to be more and more evidence that fast food is bad for people. Just about every day there is somebody that is going to the hospital because of all the fast food they eat. People may not like fast food because it is unhealthy, targets children, and exploits animals.
