The freedom of America’s slaves has always been accredited to Abraham Lincoln, but he was not always the complete abolitionist as he is commonly portrayed. The “house divided”, as Lincoln depicts it in his famous ‘House Divided’ speech, of the United States during the Civil War, was not always lead towards the freedom of all mankind, and there is sufficient evidence to support this claim. The sixteenth president is most commonly remembered for inducing the courage and determination to end the Civil War, with the Emancipation Proclamation, although when it more closely studied he did not cross the great divide of enslavement vs. freedom with the submittal of that fabled document. When following the many famous quotes and speeches of Lincoln’s life, it appears that he was against all slavery and bondage. At the same time, when more closely examined, the quotes and speeches actually leaned towards his lack of strong opinion on the outcome of slavery. Lincoln is perceived as the most famous revolutionary of American history, but he does not live up to his legacy of being the eradicator of forced servitude.
Abraham Lincoln is regarded by many Americans as the greatest president to ever hold office in the history of the United States, and his reputation is definitely well deserved. Lincoln wasn't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was convinced that within the branches of government, the presidency alone was empowered not only to uphold the Constitution, but also to protect, and defend it. Lincoln was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from splintering during the devastating times of the Civil War. As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization, and he rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the
President Abraham Lincoln was one of the most influential presidents in United States history. In history, Lincoln is credited with the great event of ending slavery in the United States. He was once quoted saying, “...if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” Little did we know that later this quote would turn out to be somewhat ironic. While he was a huge influence with ending slavery, he did not do it alone.
In the Civil war there were many leaders of both sides. The leaders of the union were Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses .S. Grant, and on the confederate side there Jefferson Davis and Andrew Jackson. They all had an immense part in the civil war, On pages 496-509 you will read all the things Lincoln and Grant did for the union. For example, Abraham Lincoln emancipated all the slaves in the confederacy, which now gave a new goal of the union to abolish slavery, and gave the union more soldiers. Grant used strategy and force to defeat the confederate, by issuing the total war and sending Sherman on the march to the sea, consequently destroying everything the south had even the civilians who had no part in the war were affected. Before the Emancipation Proclamation was passed, the Civil War had been going on for two years. UNION VICTORIES The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on September 22, 1862, but it did not take effect until January 1, 1863 (Emancipation Proclamation 1863). This took place during the Civil War, which was fought between the Union States and the Confederate States of America. The Emancipation Proclamation did not free the slaves, because it only applied to the areas that the Union had no power in. It did not apply to the Southern area that the Union already had taken control of or occupied. It also did not apply to the slave states that were already a part of the Union or the border states. It applied only to the areas that were under the control of the Confederate States. The Union Army had no control there, so they could not enforce it (CORNALE NOTES). The Emancipation Proclamation had a small impact practically, but had a larger symbolic effect, and led to the Thirteenth Amendment following the victory of the Union in 1865 (Emancipation Proclamation 1863). EMCANIPATOR DEFINTIYON Lincoln should not be known the “Great Emancipator.”

Abraham Lincoln is by far our most revered president in the history of the United States. He had a strong moral vision of where his country must go to preserve and enlarge the rights of all her people, but he was also a good man with a strong sense of character and a great discipline in the art of law; and he sought to continue the great and mighty legacy of the Constitution. He believed that the Founding Fathers had drawn up the Constitution without the mention of slavery because they felt that it would later die of a natural death. He would soon learn that that would not be the case.
As a proud American living in the United States, I am grateful that have the opportunity to have natural rights. For instance, we have the right to an education, to work, have voter rights, liberty, and freedom. However, that has not always been the case. It took hundreds of years for America to be molded the way that it is today, and it was not an easy development. Back in the historical days (1860’s,) America was enduring the Civil War. The nation was divided and slavery was common during this era. With this in mind, one of our greatest leaders took charge and changed our nation, Abraham Lincoln. He was one of our most influential Presidents that left a positive impact in the history of United States and his biggest triumph was the Emancipation Proclamation.
What is interesting about Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War is how he had no military training or experience. As the previous paragraph pointed out, he had only been a militia captain for a war against Native Americans. From the time of March 1861, he only had an army of 16,000 soldiers (Clack, 35). He had no modern military command for these soldiers. Even his commanders didn’t ever manage an army larger than a brigade. So, Lincoln appointed volunteer generals whom were civilians.
It was his presidency that dealt with the Civil War. North vs South, Slavery vs Non-Slavery, Confederacy vs Union. Lincoln was able to skillfully guide the U.S. through this traumatic time. During the war Lincoln pushed for changes starting with winning battles against the South, and pushing more and more for the Union to be at peace again. When the war was at its height, Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln is one of the most well known presidents in the history of the United States of America. He as thought to be the man who led this great country through the toughest times it had to encounter. His determination to get the United States through the Civil War is one of the best things that have ever happened for this country. Lincoln’s argument about the relationship between slavery, the Constitution, and the Union changed throughout the Civil War. Lincoln’s view of the purpose of the war was to save the Union because of the southern states seceding from the Union. However, the argument changed to the war being about slavery because of Fredrick Douglass’s speeches and the Confederates surrendering at
