On my way to work I tuned into ESPN radio on 97-9 FM station and caught part of the Rob Dibble show. Rob Dibble is a former major league baseball pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers. He was a 2x all-star, World Series champion and NLCS MVP. Dibble first joined ESPN in 1998 as a baseball analyst. In 2014, after an interesting journey in broadcasting consisting of some questionable comments, Dibble became the host of a sports talk show on WUCS 97.9 FM and WAVZ 1300 AM in the ESPN stations in Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut later named the Rob Dibble Show. The Rob Dibble show is clearly targeting males over females. Dibble is notorious for speaking his mind and at some times some questionable
Individuals can oftentimes feel ashamed of their origins, they may want to escape their past and move on to a bright and capable future. By doing this, they are choosing to remove their heritage and past from their identity. In “Prodigal”, Bob Hicok suggests that when individuals decide to pursue their ambitions then they may choose to forget their past because it acts as an obstacle that prohibits them from attaining their true aspirations. However; people that were part of their past will never truly forget who the individual once was, and their perceptions of them will not change. Individuals can direct the utmost effort towards changing their identity and in turn can also create a new perception of themselves with people whom they are unacquainted
The former Chicago Bears coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer appeared on ESPN Radio to once again deny that he farted on live TV during this week’s edition of “Monday Night Countdown.” Ditka explained in the segment that “Countdown” host Chris Berman was responsible for the noise, saying he pooh-poohed his picking the New York Giants over the Philadelphia Eagles because Berman is a Philly fan.
There is no divide in the consumption of this popular culture’s associated products in relation to gender, although the group previously consisted of four males, as well as many of the associated characters being male. This recently changed in 2012 when a female Wiggle was introduced, creating a more female-friendly show, which may appeal to young girls more so than before, therefore giving The Wiggles the opportunity to expand their market
Michael Kimmel talks a lot about how guys between the ages of 16 and 26 are living in the world called Guyland (Kimmel, 5). Things such as sports, sex, porn, and video games consume guys in Guyland. Kimmel also brings up that girls/women are in a way questionable or illegal in Guyland, however women/girls are still present in Guyland. Two ways females participate in Guyland are by supporting Guyland by conforming to what men want and by complying with guys by trying to be one of them. Women can also resist Guyland by embracing qualities they already posses and not conforming to the wants of males.
I absolutely appreciated when professor Rebovich addressed the importance of treated elderly victims differently than treating any other victims. Rebovich stated that is it important to understand that as a law enforcement officer one must be empathetic. You should treat the individual with personal care, respect, respect their home or space, and remember that once you walk out the door that individual will be left all alone. I agree with this because the mental capacity of the elderly differ from the youth and make them more susceptible to fraud. Mentioning that within the webinar opens the minds of the viewers into understanding why a relative of theirs may have been victimized and why this continues to happen. That is why is
Gender inequality has been in existence for centuries and is still apparent throughout any given society. This leads up to the topic of feminism, which addresses the issues of systematic discrimination against women and the belief that men and women should be equal. In countless television programs, women are commonly sexually harassed and no one generates a remark as well as society deeming it acceptable without a second thought as they consider it conventional. In order for the characters of Boy Meets World to grasp the topic of feminism, participant observation was an effective way for them to serve it. There are numerous sociological components used within this episode such as participant observation which highlights the theme of feminism within this episode by displaying how Shawn felt as he responds to the situation that women experience due to the lack of understanding that men have in this show.
After President Michaelson was elected, the Law Enforcement gloves came off and Malcolm X's, "by any means necessary," was turned on its head. Stop and frisk became a national obsession, and the good citizens believed it was a necessary sacrifice of what the President referred to as, "small freedoms," to bring about a safer world. The exponential expansion of the Patriot Act by the super-majority Congress created an immediate state of inner siege in the United States.
In the article, “The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show”, Jason Zinser, a teacher at the University of North Florida, discusses the coverage of “fake” entertainment news. Zinser effectively argues the different benefits and disadvantages of entertaining news. When reading this article, one can find that Zinser uses emotional appeals to create a sense of intentness to his readers, uses ethical appeals to create trust from his readers, and uses logical appeals to inform readers of the difference between humorus news and undeniable news.
“Kenny Deibel has been umpiring in Rittman longer than I have been on this earth,” DiSalvo said of the three decades Diebel spent serving as an umpire for baseball and softball games. “An outstanding softball player in his own right, Kenny has the recognition in being a member of three softball halls of fame and the greater Akron Hall of Fame.”
In 1991, Vanilla Ice appeared on the "Arsenio Hall Show" for a now infamous interview. Hall went at the white rap phenomenon like a shark smelling blood, grilling him about his past, his dancing, his relationships with other rappers, and more.
Bill Roberts, the CEO of an urban charter high school, reveals a school leader that holds to one “lack.” School leader Roberts demonstrates having a quality of not only having experience in working with students of color but also thinking about and having the language for talking about race and race-conscious practices. Robert stated that the school he has led for several years “mirrors the city” and the student demographic is around 50% African American and about 65-75% students on free and/or reduce lunch. Roberts recognizes a discrepancy between the cultural background between his teachers and students. Roberts makes the following comment about the discrepancy,
In the United States there are “2,300,000 people are in jails or prisons today. Incarceration is one of the most common forms of punishment in the country for those who choose to commit crimes. This number includes those who are jailed for a short period and are released on probation, as well as those who are doing time for the rest of their lives. (soapboxie, 2016).
The second pattern that the show demonstrates is the dominance of heterosexuality and heterosextual privilege. All the character in the show are in a heterosexual relationship which are reflected in the nature of the space that they occupy. In the workplace and within the household the representation of heteronormative culture dominates. There is no representation of homonormative spaces or other sexual minorities in the show. The third pattern that the show demonstrates is gender performance. West and Zimmerman refer to gender performance as “doing gender” which will be later discussed in the next section. Due to the strong heteronormative nature of the show, the pattern of explicit gender performances are portrayed through clothing, behaviors, and interactions. These patterns are all related to specific locations in which each of the genders occupies. It is through this segregation of genders that the show perpetuates societal norms that support heteronormative culture and result in gender inequalities.
It's early afternoon and I'm watching daytime television which leaves you with limited options. I could probably be doing something better with my time however it is summer break. So as a guilty pleasure, I relish in the antics featured on the Maury Show. Normally his show deals with life changing paternity shows. Occasionally, he veers away from his usual format to a once popular format: Is she a man or woman? This is a show that allows the audience to guess the gender of the person. It seems rather straight forward; the entertainment value is that it's difficult to tell at first glance. It forces you to carefully select which phenotypical traits are most appropriate for the gender you select. We all think we can innately tell the
I chose the first episode of the very popular television program The Event. I viewed the first episode on Netflix, October 20, 2011. This program originally aired on NBC, September 10, 2010, and is titled “I Haven’t Told You Everything”. This program has a total of twenty two series to date and is classified as an action-adventure drama. After viewing a picture of the main characters with the synopsis of this program, I noticed immediately that this was a male dominated show. The picture shows seven people standing together and merely two of the seven are female. The premise of the story is about a man searching for his missing fiancé. The story line was a prime example of the gender male
