Quote Reflection Whether it’s learning not to touch stove when it's hot as a little kid or even government officials learning from wars that have happened in the past. We all must be able to look at the past failures and learn from them so that we don’t repeat them in the future. That is why I agree with the quote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I believe that this quote shows truth all the way back when the New World was first being settled and all the way up to today. This quote doesn’t just apply to the country as a whole but to each of us individually, when we are growing up, we make mistakes, such as touching a pan that has just came out of the oven or not turned out homework in on time and got a bad grade that we had to show our parents. We then either learn from these things and get smarter or repeat them and either hurt ourselves or get in trouble with our parents. …show more content…
Everyone was scared the Russian Communists were going to come into America and blend in and then communism would eventually spread into the government and take over the country. There were people during this time, such as Senator McCarthy, that wanted to take extreme action without any hard evidence. Believe it or not, but not even 300 years before this happened, there was another similar experience. The Salem Witch Trials closely followed the same pattern, they accused many innocent people and basically ruined their lives. All because they felt fear and that fear turned to
The pervasive Red Scare of the 1950s, which peaked just before mid- decade, legitimated the sanitizing of the nation's political culture, not only through prosecuting and persecuting anyone or anything smacking of communism, but also manipulating a whole range of suspect people, ideas, and artifacts. Purifying society of corrupting influences became a permissible activity, upheld by the religious, political, economic, legal, and cultural establishment. Everyone was vulnerable, but particularly the impressionable young, whose naiveté and search for excitement could easily lead to moral corruption or
The Red Scare 1919-1921 involved increasing fear of a potential rise in communism. This scare was fixated on the workers revolution and political radicalism sparking labor strikes distorted as crimes against society. 9/11 was a politically motivated bombing that caused hysteria. In both cases, citizens were not safe from harassment, suffered a loss of jobs, being displaced from families and many lives were lost.
We know all the damn silly things we've done for a thousand years and as long as we know that and always have it around where we can see it, some day we'll stop making the goddamn funeral pyres and jumping in the middle of them." Bradbury 61 This quote shows how important it is to remember our mistakes. And without it, it's discouraging individuality and critical thinking. In this quote, Montags guide says "If you hide your ignorance, no one will hit you and you'll never learn.
The Cold War was a time of suspicion. The fear of communism was at its highest level. Anyone who was thought to have had ties to communism was blacklisted and stripped of of any honor they had. However this was not the first or last persecution taken place in the U.S. Back in Puritan time the belief that the devil executed his deeds by bewitching people.Like the Red Scare people set out on a mission to hunt the blights that had among them.
After WWII the democratic U.S. and the soviets became engaged in a series of largely political and economic clashes we called the cold war. The rivalry between the two powers raised concerns in US that communist are inside the U.S. Which poses a U.S. Security threat and gets Americans scared. I believe that the red scare created McCarthyism and not the other way around because the red scare came right after wwII hysteria still left over from Hitler, the red scare is what led to actions that had an enduring effect on the us government and society, and because the us thinks soviet spies could be a threat to the US and cause Americans to start mistrusting and causing McCarthy to rise up with his accusations.
More recently in the history of the United States, was the Red Scare. Many had fears of voicing their opinion which practically destroys all of the progress which had been made by their predecessors in gaining their liberties. Margaret Chase Smith stood up and ignored the fact that she may get labeled as a communist in attempts to eliminate her credibility in politics. She argues that the senate is being hypocritical, “It is strange that we can verbally attack anyone else without restraint and have for protection, and yet we hold ourselves above the same type of criticism here on the Senate floor. Truly the United States Senate is big enough to take self – criticism and self – appraisal” (Smith, 1950, p.523). The senators keep their own liberties
The United State’s Capitalistic and consumer driven way of life sat in contrast to the Soviet Union’s Communist and government centred economy. So much so, that the fear of Communists living in America began a panic known as the second Red Scare. Americans attempted to weed out Communists, with programs like the loyalty program which required government workers to state if they have ever been a communist; as well as the Congress of Industrial Organization (CIO). “...[The] (CIO) and United Auto Workers froze Communists out of leadership positions...” (Goldfield 805), along with this there were numerous trails and people assured of being a Communist. McCarthyism was another main reason the American public began exiling those assured of Communists; McCarthyism created a fear of these people, which allowed those accused to be black balled in their professions. One such example where the Hollywood Ten, which was a group of movie directors accused of being too soft on Communism.
The Cold War was between the United States and the Soviet Union. This war began in 1945 and ended in 1991. The reason why this war began was because the United States and the Soviet Union had different opinions about economics and government. Senator Joseph McCarthy’s action do reflect the attitudes of both Americans and the American government during the early 1950s. The reason why is because communist in the United States became known as the red scare. Another reason why is because we did not want any communist in office. Lastly, The Rosenbergs were Soviet spies so they could share atomic secrets from the Manhattan Project.
The second part of the Red Scare was heated by the climate in the nation and the control of an US Senator. The senator feared that the spread of communism would led to the “creation of committees” that people would suspect as “communist leanings.” Many people got accused of being un-loyal to the U.S. by spying for the communist countries or attempting to. This anti-communist movement eventually became called the
II BACKGROUND:- Throughout the period of Cold War with the Soviet Union from the late 1940s through 1950s, the fear of communism, also known as the Red Scare, affected the politics, civilization, and culture of the society. (What is the Red Scare). In a like manner, the Second Red Scare is the Soviet domination of Eastern and Central Europe and the Communist taking over China which petrified the American public. This fueled a fear that communism would expand around the world and invade the government. Consequently, this phobia of Communism escalated when Mao Zedong started to control China.
They accused anyone they were suspicious of. Sometimes they only accused people because they had a bad feeling about them or just didn’t like them. Innocent people were put in jail because of the suspicions of others. Part of the reason the Red Scare had started was the patriotism that was rising within the country because of World war I. People had a lot of pride for America and it would make sense that, if someone were to ruin that, they would be mad.
“Hate gives identity.” In a political climate of walls, borders, and divisions, nothing rings truer. Political parties are defined by who or what they hate rather than the policies they want to push for. Hate identifies different sects within individual parties, for example, the ‘Never Trump’ Republicans versus the complicit Republicans. Furthermore, this quote from Coates’ is not just a topical assessment of current electorate.
The postwar Red Scare was undeniably induced by the massive fear of communism during that time period. Americans became terrified of the advancement of Soviet Communism after World War II ended. This panic was fueled by the media and film industry, as well as certain politicians, who depicted communists as villains hungry for world domination. Americans were afraid that communist countries were going to take away their freedoms if they became too powerful. This was because people in communist countries did not have the freedom of speech or religion, and were forced to work in deadly labor camps. Before, and during the war, America and the Soviet Union had been allies. After the war, it was discovered that certain federal officials had provided
A.The Red Scare The US as the most powerful capitalist country in the world always has been scared by communism and anarchism and people were and are still today conditioned by the media or the political parties to say no to those idea. The Red Scare is the spreading of the fear of the rise of communism and anarchism ideas by pro-capitalist politicians. During the 1920’s a Red Scare spread quickly throughout the US because of the Russian revolution that happened in march 1917 and turns Russia into a communist country. Before, the US weren’t that preoccupied by the rise of communism in Europe because it only concerned small countries. Propaganda spreading anti-Communism and anarchism messages begins shortly after the russian revolution.
A previous leader of mine once told me that a good man learns from his mistakes, but a great man learns from the mistakes of others. I would like to add to that by saying I do believe you should learn from others, but I also think what makes a great man is teaching others about the mistakes you have made. God knows I have made plenty of mistakes in my career and life, but I have learned from each one of those mistakes, and that is what has made me the man I have become today.
