Have you ever thought about people who need help in your community and ways you could help? In Aniak, Alaska, there was a need in the medical field because the town only had one doctor. A team of teenagers saw this need and decided they could do something about it and formed a team called the Dragon Slayers. On the other side of the country, Cassandra saw a different kind of need in her community. Because of harsh Rhode Island winters, fuel for heating homes is really important. She and her friends learned about biodiesel and how it could help her community. In the two articles, Defeating Dragons and Food That Fuels, young people saw community needs and helped bring positive change in unique ways.
As humans, we all possess great qualities. We develop memories that we can cherish forever. Hopes and dreams help us strive to do great things. However, we all have our demons that we all tend to conceal. The famous poem “Beowulf” is renowned for the battles against Beowulf and many monsters. The battles in the poem pose as metaphorical battles. Beowulf defeating the monsters represent him trying to overcome his demons. The last battle was between him and a dragon. To the reader’s surprise, he lost the battle. The dragon represents Beowulf’s greatest demon. Despite the dragons that Beowulf faced that are external, my dragons are more internal.
The serpent that is illustrated in Genesis is a creature who represented Satan who then enticed Eve into eating out of the garden of Eden with the crafty words, “'You will not certainly die,' the serpent said to the woman”(Genesis, 3:4). The serpent in these works symbolizes evil and how the temptation of it the sin is difficult to escape after being committed. After discussing the serpent representing the difficulty of escaping it whether it is temptation or the impossible escape of the devil-like serpent after committing the sin. The sin then becomes repetitive. Maybe due to the fact that it is pleasurable or easy. Dante uses the repetition of the sinner's torment symbolized the repetition of sin. In line 107, Dante relates the punishment cycle of the sinners to the phoenix with, “The Phoenix dies to be reborn again” (24.107). Dante uses a phoenix's life to relate to these sinners, which also symbolizes sin. Wes Anderson believes the phoenix had a different symbolism. Deal with life, Anderson said “The Phoenix - Symbolize new life in myth. In Hell, they’re new death”(1). Due to the phoenix's never ending existence and these sinners also rise again after burning to ashes who are attacked by the serpents. It can symbolize sin in life that
In the Old Testament story of Job, Satan is one of God’s angels. In order to become the Satan of evil, he must fall from God’s grace and vacate his position in His court. Greek mythology told the story of an epic battle in heaven between Zeus, god of heaven, and Typhon, the most fearsome of the giants, with “100 dragon heads, coiling serpents for legs and hundreds of hands” (Littleton, 149). Zeus succeeded in casting Typhon out of heaven forever, and the beast is said, variably, to either be destroyed in Mt. Etna, or banished to Tartarus, the deepest level of the underworld. In Revelations 12: 7-9, Michael and the angels fight Satan, described as “the great dragon… that old serpent”, and cast him out of heaven and into hell. Early versions of 2 Peter, telling the same story, even use the word Tartarus, which is later replaced with hell in King James and other popular
In Dante’s Inferno dante sees satan and see satan with three head and satan is trying to fly out of hell but his wing are making it where it is impossible to do so. Satan in the world now is known as the king of hell. Satan is different in this version of him. In our version he is the fallen angel from god and he looks like he has reds skin and has horns while the Dante version is like a big monster and is in his own prison and he is forced to eat so of the people that have went against god. In our version of satan he is cast of out heaven and rules the underworld and is the one that cause humans to be bad and make bad choices in life. In Dante version it seems that he is the one that is forced to have a punishment and pluto rules hades what
In the book, Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Dragon? : Why China Has the Best (and Worst) Education System in the World, published by John Wiley & Sons on August 14, 2014, the author, Yong Zhao, states that while China gets the highest test scores on the PISA exam, parents in China often send their children to western schools. In short Yong Zhao, a Chinese native who was born in Sichuan, claims that Western countries, Britain and America, should not try and adopt China’s education system for many reasons. I my opinion this book did not seem important to pre-service teachers, but after further thought and reading, I conclude that this book is valuable to not only pre-service teachers, but to anyone that is involved in education because it provides reasons why we should not try to adopt China’s education system.
As Eric Burdon stated: “Inside each of us, there is a seed of both good and evil.” Even though one may have a history for crime, or in general just being an evil person, they may have good reasons for it. In the book The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima, the differences between the clans people and wizards clash. Han “Cuffs” Alister had a history for being a thief, and part of a gang. The “Cuffs” in his name was meant for the silver cuffs he wore on his wrists that never came off. He stole food and money for his mother. Since this was all too much for his mother and sister, Han decided to leave the world of crime behind him. Han lives among the clan, and is an indigent individual. Fire Dancer, his best friend, traveled with Han to the Spirit Mountains to hunt for food; instead, they run into the son of the High Wizard, Micah Bayar. Micah had an amulet and threatened to use it on them, but Han took the amulet and escaped with Fire Dancer. The conflict is

In his sixth chapter, “...Or the Bible,” Foster argues that today’s culture is a Christian culture, regardless of your religious beliefs. A parallel to Christ, Foster suggests, might “deepen our sense of the characters sacrifice” since it is compared to the greatest sacrifice we know. Foster does explain that although a character might symbolize Christ, they do not have to hold every quality of him, which would make them Christ himself. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, the main character Mariam symbolizes Christ in numerous ways.
In the book, the author tries to define the dragon and states that it was seen to look like a giant snake. He also explains how people saw dragons as sacred whereby it was seen as some type of guardian to the people and provided them with protection and natural needs like rain. The book also tells of people, who had negative beliefs against the dragons; these were mostly Christians who to some extent even fought with the dragons. The belief that dragons were strong and mighty was seen as true since people who defeated dragons, mostly armies, were remembered as very great men. The popular belief that dragons guard great treasures in their caves is seen in this novel whereby the author states that people in those days tried to enter dragon caves which were guarded by these dragons.
The dragon was weighed by the gods , thoughts and deeds taken into consideration and he was sent to the sky to watch over his friend for
