15 April 2015 The Qur’an as many know is the Holy Book to the religion of Islam. Within the thirty chapters of the book are one-hundred fourteen Surah, which are like verses in the Holy Bible, where the Surah contains the words of the great prophet of Islam, Muhammad. Many examples of Sharia law are taken from the Qur’an and are still in effect.
Similarly to the Catholic religion, the religion of Islam has their own set of Ten Commandments that outline the basic laws of Middle Eastern Society. According to the Qur’an, the Ten Commandments are; The First Commandment explains the fidelity of a Muslim which is to join not anything in worship with God. The Second Commandment to be good and dutiful to parents. The Third Commandment is to kill not your children because of poverty. The Fourth Commandment states to come not near to “shameful” sins whether committed openly or secretly. The Fifth Commandment describes murder as kill not anyone whom God has forbidden, there’s some leeway on this law. The Sixth Commandment describes fatherless children as orphans when they mean come not near to the orphan’s property, except to improve it, until he (or she) attains the age of full strength. The Seventh Commandment provides the basic grounds to the justice system when they say “give full measure and full weight with justice.” The Eighth Commandment shows the structure of manners, “whenever you speak, say the truth
To begin, I will talk about the Koran and how it came to be. Followers of Islam commonly hold to the truth that the Koran was given to the Prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel; however, this is not recorded anywhere in the Koran itself. It is said that over the course of his lifetime, the angel Gabriel revealed to Mohammed the words of Allah. Mohammed, being illiterate, would remember the pieces of prophesy and recite it to his scribes, who would then read it back to him. He would also sometimes show them to Gabriel to make sure they were transcribed correctly. In total, there are 114 suras, or chapters, in the completed Koran.
In comparison, the Holy Quran, written after the Old Testament, remains in its original form. Written in Arabic, Quran means “recitation” and contains Islamic teachings believed to bring guidance, direction, and “IS the word of God,” whom they call Allah. It is against Islamic law to change the text in any way because Muslims believe Mohammad, founder of Islam, wrote the verses as revealed to him by the angel Gabriel. Muslims view Mohammad not as the creator of the religion, but as the restorer of the original the Hebrew Bible. Islam teaches Mohammad was not only a religious prophet but also a political and military leader. He was human, but not without sin, so he is not God. Although there have been several language translations, a good follower must read and memorize its teaching in its native Arabic language. For a follower to live by Islam he must completely submit (to God). In looking at its history,
Immigrants built America into the country it is today. Some were fleeing persecution in their own countries. The immigrants came as free individuals, indentured servants, or slaves. Most came here to pursue a better life. America welcomed those individuals, and it has a process in place for those wishing to gain legal citizenship. The immigration issue is a hot topic in the United States today and concerns individuals who are entering the country illegally. Our representatives are proposing new laws to limit access to our country through other than legal means. There are strong feelings on each side.
The Qur'an is the fundamental text for all Muslims as it is believed to contain the revelation of Allah, complete and unaltered as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. The secondary sacred text is the Hadith which refers to the collection of traditions, words and deeds of the prophet Muhammad who lived in accordance to the beliefs of Islam in the way which Allah intended. The Qur'an refers to Islam as 'the path of peace' and it is due to this importance placed upon peace that the Qur’an also declares that there be no aggressive war permitted in Islam. Peace is achieved through submission to Allah and this is reinforced through daily prayer (salat).
In some societies, women in the judicial process have very few rights that are the same as men, and their punishment seems to be much greater. Treatment by the Taliban in Afghanistan, and by other groups such as the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood all contribute to how women are treated legally. Zohreh Arshadi asserts that in countries such as Iran, "The Islamic punishments have encouraged a culture of violence against women...The fact that men receive a lighter punishment if they commit a violence against women undoubtedly encourages such violence. We saw how women could be killed with impunity during alleged adultery. Stoning to death for adultery, although technically admissible for both sexes, has also been carried out mainly against women” (Arshadi 2012). It is in countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and some non-Middle Eastern countries where the Qur’an is taken as a literal word and law, and there is constituted into actual state law. This means that certain texts from the Qur’an are used to treat women violently. For example a passage in the Qur’an states: Hadith Muslim (4:1982) The Prophet said, “I saw Hell also. No such (abominable) sight have I ever seen as that which I saw today; and I observed that most of its inhabitants were women. They said: Messenger of Allah, on what account is it so? He said: For their ingratitude or disbelief
In addition to the embodiment of the Qur’an through bodily transmissions and ethical cultivation, Rudolph Ware in his book, The Walking Qur’an, proposes understanding embodiment of the Qur’an as not only a bodily epistemology but also as an religious prism to perceive the ontology of human beings in both the past and present. In a follow-up piece addressing criticisms and questions, Ware explains in one neat line the objective of his book: “If I could add a single line [to The Walking Qur’an], it would be that the book takes Qur’an schooling as a window onto a particular epistemology of embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a window into history” (“Traditions” 678). Not only does Ware propose an epistemology of embodiment but also
Islam is the third major monotheistic religion in the Abrahamic tradition. It has 1.3 billion followers, mainly in northern Africa, west and south Asia. It was formed in 622 CE, with origins in or around the Arabian Peninsula. Islam means surrender or submission was founded by the teachings of the prophet Muhammad of surrendering the will to Allah. Allah is god in Arabic, the maker, creator, and sustainer of all things of life and everything in this universe. Muhammad is considered to be the last prophet of god. Devine knowledge from Allah is collected revelations precise in the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the Islamic holy book equivalent to the bible with Holy Scriptures, emphasizes living
Sharia is the Law of Islam. The law is cast from the words of the founder of the Muslim religion, known as Muhammad, who authored the Quran, the book in which the laws are written. Some scholars do not, however, identify Sharia as a law, but regard is as a code of conduct that defines how Muslims are supposed to live based on the opinions of the Muslim community. They regard the rules as informal guidelines that do not stand a chance to be called laws. The ISIS is a self-proclaimed Islamic state of a terrorist group that is using public brutality and indoctrination to ensure that the communities around it become under its control. The United Nations Security Council, under its resolution 2170 has described the group as extremely violent toward civilians and
The Qur’an is believe to the ultimate source of God by many Muslim believers. It contains 114 suras for the believers as the core practices of the Islamic religion and Muslims throughout the world recites its verses (Chang, Lecture. 1/21/14). They believed the prophet of Allah was Muhammad, who received the words of Allah through Angel Gabriel, and was passed on with the Qur’an during Ramadan. Angel Gabriel one night came to Muhammad “in clear human form” (“Scripture and Tradition in Islam- The Qur’an and Hadith” 104), and gave the messages from Allah to him. From the establishment of the Qur’an, Muslims have viewed the book as the last revelation of their god Allah, and thus are the true words from God for their ways of life and in
In all countries throughout the world the sources of Islamic traditions are found in the Qur’an. Similar to the Bible the Qur’an has different chapters to refer to in the holy book; the chapters in the Qur’an are called Surah’s. In the Muslim
The observation consisted of a male and a female expecting their first child, to be clear not just a child but a set of twin girls, so let’s call them PET (parents expecting twins). The observation took place at a Basic of Baby Care Class at Medical City Alliance education center, the class is available for first time parents or a refresher course for any parent, Basic of Baby Care class was the first class our PET had ever attended.
The Quran is a religious manuscript with a unique effect on the legal, social, and political organizations of the numerous societies of Muslims since ancient times until today. Apparently, in the majority of Muslim states, their constitutions are usually canonized by the Islamic regimens. Consequently, the Quran is the foundation of the legal principles in such nations. The basis of numerous lawful codes in ancient Muslim kingdoms was primarily outlined in the Quran and was vastly referred by jurists especially in court proceedings. Additionally, the set of rules marks an integral position in the religious lives of Muslims. It encompasses the five prayers that are typically recited daily, and they entail the
Each of the world’s five major religions have a set of principles and laws in which they abide by. In the morals and ethics of Christianity, they have the Greatest Commandment which pertains to loving God with all your might. To fulfill this principle, they follow the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would do unto yourself), and the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are very similar to the 5 Precepts of Buddhism: do not kill, do not steal, do not participate in sexual misconduct, do not lie, and to not become intoxicated. These values are shared among people of the Islamic religion as they do not believe in the wrongdoings of certain actions within the Halal law as it dictates what one’s actions is
Kelly Gissendaner was executed March 7th 2015 at 7 p.m. (Eastern Time). She was sentenced to death for the planning of her husband’s death in 1997 (“Georgia”). Gissendaner’s boyfriend joined in the murder of her husband. Her execution denoted the first time Georgia has executed a woman in over seventy years. According to Simpson, “The death penalty is punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime” (Oxford Dictionaries). Since the early days of human civilization, the death penalty has been around. Individuals and associations have been deciding on this theme for just as long; there are two difficult decisions on the inquiry. The first
As Muhammad was the prophet of Islam, His words and those of Allah are represented in the Quran. The Quran is a compilation of rules, poetry, beliefs, and meanings of Islam. There are some fifteen basic concepts of the Islam and are explained within the Quran. There is not an exact list of these concepts, but are the basic meanings expressed in the book. Righteousness is explained as taking verses to heart rather than empty readings and routine. It also means expressing the beliefs of the Quran in daily life and towards others. The concept of piety is the more intense following of Muhammad. Muslims are taught to mold themselves in the form of Muhammad. The concept of prophet-hood or appearing to mortal men with the word of Allah is a very important aspect of belief in Islam. It proves a connection between heaven and earth through common men. The creation of life by Allah is a strong
