The Pros And Cons Of Teenage Jobs

     Jobs won’t only support teens for the things they want, but it can help benefit for the things they need. The first things teens think of for their future are going to college and getting their first car. But, let’s say there’s a well educated thirteen-year-old, raised in a low-income family, who has plans on going to college.

Kids under the age of 14 cannot work and get a job. They should be able to get jobs. That means they are reliant to get money from others or parents. Or maybe that families cannot afford basic necessity and maybe the kids can help too by getting a job. But kids can do many things and are often underestimated and in most cases, kids can accomplish the same an adult can. And kids over the age of 14 can get a job but they must work under a certain amount of hours and cannot get the amount of money they want and it can affect the money they earn.

Although a budget is one part of this process, we must learn to save money first. Specifically, in this book it says to set aside one-tenth of what we earn and save it (ch.5). Setting aside one-tenth of what we earn allows us to make more suitable decisions on what we do with the other nine-tenths to live our daily lives. After a certain point, the one-tenth that we save every time we earn grows more and more to be able to buy the things we want or even really need.

Students in highschool know a days seem to be being employed more frequently. However I don’t agree with the employment of young teens. Although some may disagree jobs take time that teens should be spending on their education. If kids are too busy worrying on who can cover their shift instead of studying for that big test coming up. They will fail in school. Teens with jobs would worry more on making money believe it or not. They also have a higher rate in doing illegal things like drugs, cigarette use and maybe behavior problems.

In general the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) has set a general rule that allows minor as young as 14 years of age to work. Of course there are limits to the amount of hours worked. The military requires a minimum age of 17 with parents consent to join. Wow a 17 year old can be allowed to carry and M16 A4 rifle and fight for his/her country. But the National Basketball Association wants to up the age to 20 years old.

No matter what age you are, if you are receiving a paycheck the government is collecting taxes from it. The government is so desperate for income they will even make exceptions to hire fourteen and fifteen year olds in some cases. Every job has dangerous aspects to it.
