World War II just ended and there is a problem with The Western Democracies and The Soviet Union about expanding communist. They wanted to show each other that they are serious and both formed their own security agreement. On April 4, 1949 The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was signed. This treaty was an alliance between the North Americans and the Western European countries. They worked together to defend each other. So the Soviet Union cannot take over their country. On May 14 1955, The Soviet Union and The Communist Nations in Eastern Europe made a rival alliance against The NATO called The Warsaw Pact. to sign the NATO. The NATO includes Belgium, Denmark, Great Britain, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Canada, and The United States. In 1952, Greece and Turkey joined. In 1955, West Germany also joined The NATO. They all agreed on protecting each other and helping each other out when one is in danger. If someone in NATO gets attacked by The Soviet Union or any other communist countries. They will have to go against everyone in NATO. West Germany caused NATO a little trouble because their allies wanted them to form their own army. The Soviet Union got mad and warned West Germany that if they make their own army or join NATO. The Soviet Union will make their own alliance. Within the same year, West Germany joined NATO. The Soviet Union and The Communist Nations signed The Warsaw …show more content…
After thirty six years of working together The Soviet Union and The Eastern Europe both agreed on to end the alliance. This was another sign for The NATO that The Soviet Union was falling apart and losing their former allies. A couple of years into the pact the Soviets said that it will be a defensive alliance. But it became clear to The Eastern Europe allies that the reason for the pact was to show reinforce communist dominance in Eastern Europe. This made The Soviet Union allies mad and they wanted to leave the pact. Without them The Warsaw Pact will start to fall apart which it did. In 1990, East Germany withdrew from the pact because it is getting reunification with West Germany. Later Poland and Czechoslovakia really wanted to leave from the pact. The Warsaw Pact was suffering from protesters, faltering economy, and a unstable political situation. The Soviet Union was finally done and gave
In 1949, the United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and other capitalist states . Through this treaty, the countries agreed to defend each
In an article by George Kennan, he stated that we “must continue to regard the Soviet Union as a rival, not a partner in the political arena” (Doc 2). He continued, implying the impossibility of peaceful coexistence with the USSR (Doc 2). This impossibility of peaceful coexistence hinted at the eventual conflict that would come in the future. The United States wanted to charter against the Soviets. In the creation of NATO, they drew up a treaty stating, “The parties to this Treaty...are determined to safeguard the freedom, common heritage and civilization of their people, founded on the principle of democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law” (Doc 3). The Allied countries had used ideas from their faults of World War II with Germany. They learned to never appease an aggressive country, as it would lead to further aggressiveness. In response to NATO, the Soviet Union drew up The Warsaw Pact, and forced it upon the Allies. This showed the taking of sides, but if either side would make a move, war will break out (Doc 4). In relation to future events, this formation of the pact instigated further tension as both countries felt the need to assert their
Western Germany was to be remilitarized. The United States and other members of NATO decided to make Western Germany a member of NATO. The Soviets saw this to be a direct threat and responded with the Warsaw Pact. America saw the Warsaw Pact as a way of the Soviets spreading communism. The United States felt by including Western Germany in the Pact it would put them in danger of a new war and create a threat. Document 3 shows how NATO responded to the creation of the Warsaw Pact. This document outlines the conditions under which Western Germany agrees to ally with the members of NATO. By the United States uniting with Western Germany the Soviets felt they needed to make alliances. Document 4 is important in relation to the Warsaw Pact because it details the event. The United States admittance of Western Germany was a strategy in dealing with the USSR. The Soviets would use Western Germany in terms of promoting themselves with use of propaganda. Also indebting them and reminding of the Soviets role in liberating them. The United States no longer wanted this influence to take place. The purpose of this document was to inform people about why the Warsaw Pact was such a controversial
The NATO, also known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was a military alliance that was created as a response to the Soviet Union becoming a threat to the United States. They believed that this alliance would provide them with support and stability and protect them from any threats that they get from the Soviet Union. Document 4 states, "The parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in
The North Atlantic Treaty was written to form an alliance between the anticommunist Western European and North American nations. When it was written, in 1949, the twelve nations that would initially make up the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, all came to the agreement that if any one of the member countries were attacked, such attack would be taken as an offense to all of the member countries, and a counter assault would certainly take place (North Atlantic Treaty). Because NATO was a defense organization, being prepared to fight back in the event of an attack from the Soviet Union embodied one of its most important requirements. Therefore, much consideration and money went into assembling an array of potent nuclear weapons that could overwhelm the Soviets and inhibit them from triggering a nuclear war (North Atlantic Treaty Organization 4). The main purpose of this protective alliance was to contain communism and thus to prevent it from spreading around
Following the end of World War II, the United States became increasingly concerned with the perceived threat of Soviet aggression in
In 1949 the US formed a mutual defense alliance with Western Europe called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Truman had a hard time convincing Congress that this organization was necessary on account of American sentiment previously being avoidant of entangling alliances. The NATO charter pledged that an attack on one of the member nations constituted an attack on all of the members. Stalin’s aggressive actions at Berlin accelerated the American effort to use military means to contain communism. So the implementation of this alliance represented Truman’s willingness to disregard the tradition of neutrality. The Soviets also create an alliance called the Warsaw Pact countries that had the equivalent ambitions as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

In the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, there is an importance of relationships. They can be between lovers, friends, and families. Soviet Union would have ben set until the Soviets allowed the U.S. free trade in eastern Europe. But this of course was not what the Soviet Union wished to have in the region. So, the U.S. put too much pressure on the Soviets through plans such as the Marshall Plan and this in return put the USSR on the defensive. Once the USSR entrenched itself to protect its interests, no room to
This enables them to pursue, in different ways, cooperative programs on a wide range of practical security-related issues of benefit to their countries and to Europe as a whole. Both countries are members of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC). NATO continues to attach importance to discussions and practical co-operation with Russia. Their aim remains to establish a strong, stable and enduring partnership within the framework of the NATO-Russia Founding Act.
Through initiatives such as the creation of the North Atlantic Cooperation Council (NACC) and Partnership for Peace (PfP), and the establishment of a new Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), the member countries of NATO have opened the way for new forms of partnership and cooperation with other countries within the framework of the Alliance. On 27 May 1997, in Paris, NATO and Russia signed a historic agreement on their future relations. A few days later a NATO-Ukraine Charter was initialed in Sintra, Portugal, where NATO and Partner countries met to inaugurate the EAPC. A Dialogue with the Mediterranean countries, initiated in December 1995, is also being further developed. New structures and procedures designed to further the internal adaptation of NATO are being introduced. As part of this process, the development of the European Security and Defense Identity
With Europe firmly divided into communist and capitalist, Germany became the new battle ground. There was the Berlin Blockade this was aimed at bluffing the Allies into renegotiation the division of Germany in his favor. This act did work, the allies just called his bluff by flying over Russian airspace. Stalin did not retaliate and risk war. In nineteen-forty nine with the Berlin Blockade in full effect and the threat of conflict with Russia, the Western powers signed the NATO treaty creating a military alliance.
Accounting principles as practiced in Nigeria has its origin in Britain due to the colonial influence and the early influence of accountants of Nigerian origin who were practising in the UK. These accountants were made a move to institutionalize accounting in Nigeria and therefore designed the framework of accounting practice based on their current inclination. Association of Accountants in Nigeria (AAN) [1] the progenitor of ICAN was formed in 1960. ICAN herself did not come into existence until September 1, 1965 [ 2]. This officially set the ball rolling for the regulation of accounting practice in Nigeria.
When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby’s birth in Manila a few years back, we were stepping in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can no longer sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over exploit natural resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority of environmental problems, while overpopulation exacerbates most problems such as pollution, deforestation, global warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we should attach more importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing technology to fix the problem its own. Managing the population through education and birth control policy is what we can do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population problem, providing an option of birth control to families and guiding the public to live sustainably will slow down the population growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world’s population. Most importantly, such declining population which owns greener lifestyle creates a benign and harmonious relationship with the planet.
