With an increase in the number of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States in the last few years the issue of gun control laws has become a prevalent topic of debate throughout American society. This debate stems from two opposing arguments over gun control. Some feel gun control laws are fair and not the contributing factor to these mass shootings, whereas, others feel that there is an urgent need for strict laws in order to end the problem of mass shootings. There are numerous pros and cons to the enforcement of stricter gun control laws but we must note a few things: stricter gun control laws would interfere with the second amendment, it is not the gun that kills it is the individual, and it is ultimately not laws that are …show more content…
We deserve the right to continue to preserve our protection and banning guns conflicts with that right. Stricter gun control laws would simply give rise to more societal problems regarding second amendment rights.
Next, it is important to ask who are the people that really kill? Is it the gun or the person? People who defend the right to bear arms often state that it is not the gun that kills it is the individual that kills. Some feel the answer lies in that we need to introduce stricter laws on who is able to apply for license to carry guns. Gun laws vary from state to state with California being the most restrictive state to Arizona with the most lenient laws. These laws include background checks, waiting periods, and registration requirements to who can purchase and sells guns. Even with these laws in place we have still witnessed an increase in the number of mass shootings over the past few years. Implementing stricter gun control laws will ultimately not eliminate individuals from acquiring access to guns if they truly desire. State governments may require licenses to purchase guns but there remains an underground and online market to purchase guns, which does not monitor whether a person truly has a license or not. Rather than focusing on implementing stricter laws for control and ways to make the purchase
people are killed. The people and politicians warm up to talk about gun control and strict laws,
One of the most controversial issues nowadays in America is gun control, moreover how gun violence has increased during the years to the point where many people are skeptical or simply just dismiss how big of an issue it really is in society. Consequently gun control is made up of laws that aim to restrict and regulate the sale, purchase, or possession of firearms through licensing, registration, and identification requirements. Wouldn't you think that these so called requirements would be strict enough to prevent the massacre events that have been taking place, but instead we are handing the killers the weapons. Nevertheless Gun laws are the cause of most of the violent crime in the United States and they need to be updated in order to keep the public safe by not only making it harder for Americans to purchase firearms and conceal them, but to punish someone for owning an illegal firearm with a stiff prison sentence even at as first time offence.
Gun control is a controversial topic that has been heavily debated for decades. Both sides of the debate are very passionate about the issue and both want to find solutions that they believe will benefit the greater good of our society. One side argues that a more regulated gun industry and stricter gun laws will reduce violence. On the other side of the debate, they believe that keeping guns in the hands of law abiding citizens will help reduce gun violence. Taking the rights of legal gun owners away in this country would be more detrimental to society than allowing law abiding citizens have their guns. Guns help protect the citizens of this country and taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens only helps criminals.
Automatic weapons are supposed to be used for things like self defense and hunting, but some people prefer to use them differently. A special type of gun called the AR-15 is exceptionally dangerous because of the type of bullet it uses. According to (Green tip)“ a special bullet called the M855 is used in the AR-15”. The reason this is a problem is because the M855 is a special bullet that can pierce through armour. This is especially dangerous to police officers because their bullet proof vests do not stop this bullet. Automatic weapons and guns must not be legal because they are used in shootings and crimes and the automatic weapons stimulate violence.
One maybe scared to use a gun but some use guns for their protection. This is because one can not trust everyone due to all the crimes that have been going on. Gun control is a major topic for people with concealed weapons permits. There has been many shooting and major threats that could have been stopped if someone had a concealed weapon. Some people are demanding for schools to have a security guard or a police officer to be on campus while children are in school as other people don't want guns on campuses due to the unknown of what that person could do with the gun. As one can see from these examples, gun control on concealed weapons will be hard to get everywhere due to controversy of the people in the areas.
In today’s time guns are easy to get regardless of who you are. Murders, thieves, terrorist, and more can buy weapons on the black market or steal them from militaries and responsible gun owning citizens. Leaders of nations need to come up with a solution for this issue and actually attempt to solve the problem. Too many of our loved ones are being murdered in schools, homes, streets, and public events it needs to stop.
Imagine sitting in a theater watching a movie with your friends and family, or sitting in a class learning about the history of America. Then out of nowhere someone begins to rapidly fire skin piercing bullets toward you and your loved ones. Although this may seem unbelievable, this is the tragedy that many people have to endure due to guns being sold legally to the public. Selling guns to the public has many downsides, for example, guns can easily fall into the hands of young children, there may be many deadly shooting, and guns lead to many deaths. In 2012, guns were the leading cause of death in the United states. In addition, the United States ranked first in international gun ownership rates with 88 guns per 100 people. Therefore, it is evident that the public should not be allowed to buy firearms
The second amendment allows for people to bear arms. If gun ownership is deemed illegal, the constitution is being violated. The constitution was created to give people certain rights, establishing America as a free country. As Daniel Brezenoff, a supporter of the Constitution states, “Gun control is a violation of the 2nd amendment.” (medium.com) Proponents of the constitution state, “The Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects individual gun ownership.” (procon.org) Gun control violates our rights as citizens of the United States and it should not be
In light of the recent Las Vegas shooting once again the topic of gun control dominated the news. There are many viewpoints on what if anything should be done to prevent or reduce gun violence in the US. One of the contested arguments in the realm of gun control are to what extent should background checks be used which is mainly regarding who should be restricted from gun ownership in these background checks. The three arguments that will be discussed here are: Background checks should be very lenient and should mainly focus on the mentally ill and criminals, Background checks need to include the no-fly list from the TSA, and along with the Background checks with the no fly list there should be a federal registry of gun owners. The topic of gun control has many stakeholders including: politicians, gun owners, people who sell guns and those who could be potentially in danger of gun violence. I am going to go over the major arguments of each viewpoint and the reasoning behind each viewpoint.
Lately, there has been a nationwide disagreement between if we should tighten gun regulations or loosens them. If we were to loosen regulations, the idea is that people would be able to protect themselves from shooters, this is President Donald Trump’s side of the argument thus leaving it difficult for the US to pass laws restricting guns. Others believe that if we can restrict gun regulations then we could limit the amount of shootings there are. While the US government may need new laws to limit gun violence, the US should primarily enforce background checks and its keep up as a primary defense against gun violence.
October 1, 2017 marked the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. With almost 500 injured and 58 killed, not only did Las Vegas feel the tragedy of a personal loss, but the incident had rippling effects that shook all of America (Flaherty). With the fresh wounds of the recent Las Vegas shooting, the politician's initial reaction is to implement more strict gun restrictions and "lay down the law" to prevent a similar event from happening again. Due to the drastic laws being carried out, the topic of gun control is a current issue in society. Is the solution to carry out more firm restrictions on gun ownership or can the government allow the people to be their own advocates? While the opposing views of pro-gun restrictions argue that is up to the discretion of the government, they are often narrow-minded resolutions with no hope of finding a real solution. The Las Vegas shooter acquired his guns legally and passed all background checks, going unnoticed until his plan unfolded. Establishing more strict firearm restrictions would not have stopped the Las Vegas shooting from occurring. The number of gun restrictions cannot increase. Instead, the government needs to either fix the existing laws or do away with gun restrictions entirely. Gun restrictions are not the solution because guns are not doing the killing--people are; the laws only attack the law-abiding citizens and the gun restrictions add another infringed upon right that the government
Recently there have been a renewed debate about whether or not gun control is a valid and valuable concept to reduce the violence in the United States. Like any debate there are two sides: one for gun control and one against it. Recently, the pro gun control side has argued that the many school shootings were partly a result of our country’s minimal gun control. And Although this may seem like a reasonable argument, in reality it is an overgeneralization; there are many other factors that lead into horrific events like school shootings. On the other side, those who want gun freedoms have argued that gun control laws are a violation of citizen’s constitutional rights. But when the facts are looked into more it is clear that generalized gun control is not a good solution because guns do not kill people, people kill people.
There has been a big controversy between people and politics on whether guns should be banned or not. People feel have the right to buy guns, however others do not feel safe having them around. Some states have the open carry gun law. There are positive and negative effects to selling and buying of guns. Gun control is a sticky subject to talk about because of people's beliefs, opinions, and the way they were raised. They congress should enforce gun control and the buying and selling of guns. They should be stricter about the laws that states who can buy a gun and what they have to pass to obtain it.
The Second Amendment in the Constitution says that citizens have the right to bear arms. But, there is a lot of controversy on the topic of gun control. Issues like gun control and gun rights have been an important topic in Congress Meetings. And people have different opinions that have valid points. Liberals say that the second amendment does not give citizens the right to bear arms, they will only allow a militia or (National Guard) to have access to guns. Liberals say that people do not need guns to protect themselves; that is the role of the local or federal government to protect the people through the military. In order to stop gun violence and limit the ability of criminals to obtain guns it is necessary to add additional gun control laws. More guns will equal to more violence. Conservatives say that the second amendment gives citizens the right to bear and keep arms. They say that they have the right to protect themselves. Conservatives also believe that there are too many gun control laws, they think that additional laws will not decrease the gun crime rates. Gun control laws will not put a stop to criminals having access to guns. If there are more guns in the hands of law, citizens will listen and there will be less crime.
One of the most debated topics in America right now is gun control. It seems like you cannot scroll through a news feed online, or even read through a newspaper or magazine without coming across an article or post about gun control problems. Some people argue that we don’t need any gun control, and others argue that we need even more gun control than we already have. More gun control would be bad for America because it will not lower gun violence, guns are useful for protection, and history shows that gun control is ineffective, therefore, America should not have stricter gun control.
