“I have a very strict gun control policy: if there is a gun around, I want to be in control of it” (Clint Eastwood). Every year according to ATF statistics, over six million guns are sold on average in the United States alone. As of 2015, gunviolencearchive.org reported 46,350 incidents related to firearms. Out of those incidents 11,664 deaths were attributed by a firearm. “Staggering numbers on both fronts with no resolution in site. The second amendment states “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” many have challenged this right, and it has become one of the most controversially debated subjects to date.
Many different views exist on multiple fronts in relation to whether or not firearms are a necessity or a damnation to the human species. One side of the fence you have “"I don't care if you want to hunt, I don't care if you think it's your right. I say 'Sorry.' it's 1999. We have had enough as a nation. You are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun I think you should go to prison." (Actor Rosie O'Donnell) And on the other side; ““The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” (NRA

While many different views exist from both sides, one most certainly does not trump the other. On one hand firearms provide safety and protection, on the other death and destruction. Unfortunately you cannot have one without the other, a perfect example of “cause and effect”. Our great nation and the rest of the world relies on its government and each individuals God given right to protect themselves. While many laws exist such as the “Stand your ground”, “Castle Law Doctrine”, and “Conceal and Carry CCW” (Wikipedia.org) which allows an Individual to protect themselves within a reasonable limit and with
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the gun right debate. Everyone chooses their side depending on their own personal views, but no-one can deny the facts. When it comes to personal protection, owning a firearm is the safest option when it compares to response time, accessibility, security, and reliance. Would you rather be prepared with a firearm to protect your family, or beg for mercy because you thought guns were to
For many years, people have been pushing the American government to implement new laws that deal with gun control. Supporters of the argument claim that increased gun control will drastically reduce the crime rate in America. Nevertheless, a majority of gun control arguments are formed from strict control of data and emotional appeal. The mainstream media picks up these stories and broadcasts them to viewers without providing any context to them. While gun control activists assert that gun control is necessary, the American government should not ban guns because of the following reasons: potential vulnerability of innocent people being shot at by criminals and the inability for people to defend themselves against their own government.
Gun control is defined as the “regulation of the selling, owning, and use of guns” (“Gun Control” Merriam-Webster 1). Gun control is a heated topic that many Americans concern themselves with today after recent mass shootings. Suggested solutions are posed and debated between different viewpoints. The laws in existence today should be carried out and tightened before excess laws are passed. Many Americans have turned to face the issue of gun control after recent mass shootings like the one in Las Vegas or in some Churches. Some Americans with a more liberal view believe that tighter gun control laws should be enacted. More conservative Americans believe that the gun control laws already passed should be followed through. The gun laws that have already been passed should be followed through opposed to enacting new laws because many laws are already in place, gun control laws do not stop illegally obtaining a gun, and strict gun control laws have failed to prevent mass killings in countries.
The second amendment states that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” taking away our second amendment takes away our protection that was given to the people in the original rights of the constitution. Gun control has been a topic of controversy since the New Deal in which the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Federal Firearms Act of 1938 were enacted. Although some forms of gun control are useful such as background checks and the National Firearms act of 1938, people should not be limited by concealed carry permits or open carry laws. American citizens should not be restricted from the type of firearm they are allowed to buy, how they use them, or where they keep them unless it is unconstitutional.
The second amendment of The Constitution of the Unites States rules that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” In recent years this has become a highlighted and popular discussion topic throughout people and media. Typical with American media the subject of gun control is visited with broad stroked of red and the use of fear tactics while completely ignoring the complicated and underling positives and negatives of public access to firearms and the benefits and risks associated with this freedom. Most people do not carry a weapon at all and may question others who do because of the moderately low risk of being a victim of a crime. Those how carry however like to think “Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.”
As Boss (2017) mentions, The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (p. 164). Gun control has always been a controversial issue. Due to shootings related to culture, schools, robberies, movie theatres, and accidents, guns have become an object of violence, fear, and danger. All people have been affected by gun violence or have heard of an event related to gun violence. The two articles that will be analyzed are Erik Gilbert’s “Stop Worrying About Guns in the Classroom. They’re Already Here” and a testimony by Mark Kelly “Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on Gun Violence on Gun Violence on January 30, 2013”. After comparing arguments through different premises from both articles, one essay will be chosen superior to the other.
Gun control and gun rights are crucial topics that have been debated for years. Some people believe that civilians should not have the right to own a gun while others believe it is our god given right to bear arms. The second amendment of the Bill of Rights states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”(Shermer). This is a right that society has had for years and is one of the main reasons why no solution has been reached yet. There are two main sides to this debate, Gun control advocates focus on the serious negative effects of gun availability on health and safety, while gun-ownership advocates emphasize the lawful use of guns and
Guns are a part of American history, they helped free our country, and are used to protect us today. Guns have built up the identity of our nation as a whole, we used them in many wars and to separate ourselves from Britain in order to build our own country on our terms. The use of guns is protected in the Second Amendment, which says, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This amendment alone should be the end of this discussion, it was written by our founding members that we have guns for our own protection and use, (Should Gun Control Laws Be Enacted).
There is no doubt that gun control is a topic that creates conflict between political parties, families, states, cities and neighbors. It is also obvious that all sides of the debate use information they gather to promote their own agendas and their own personal views. But what exactly is gun control? Who in society is responsible for gun control issues to have come to the forefront of one of society's biggest and most political debates? One could reasonably argue that criminals are what prompts the most interest in gun control and more importantly, gang members. According to National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC) analysis, "Gang-related crime and violence continues to rise. “Many believe that gang members are responsible for an average of 48 percent of violent crimes in most jurisdictions
Recently there has been a renewed debate about whether or not gun control could be a legitimate way to reduce the violence in the United States. Like any debate there are two sides: one for gun control and one against it. Recently, the pro gun control side has argued that the recent mass shootings and general violence is a result of our country’s minimal gun control. And although this may seem like a reasonable argument, in reality it is an overgeneralization; there are many other factors that lead into horrific events like mass shootings. On the other side, those who want gun freedoms have argued that gun control laws are a violation of citizen’s constitutional rights. But when the facts are looked into more it is clear that generalized gun control is not a good solution because guns do not kill people, people kill people.
With mass shootings on the rise, street violence killing by the thousands, and suicide victims climbing as well, gun control laws have been a hot topic in today’s media. There are many state laws and a federal amendment that pertain to firearms. These laws try to restrict and regulate the sale, purchase, and possession of firearms through licensing, registration, and identification requirements (US. Legal, Inc.). These laws are in place to protect people who own or do not own guns from those who would be the most dangerous when in possession of one. However, there are large loopholes in these laws that allow people to get a gun without facing any of the laws’ requirements. It is these loopholes that give people whom wish to harm or kill other, the ability to purchase a firearm when otherwise they would have been prohibited. Stricter and more thorough firearm-related laws need to be put into place, so that previous loopholes will be eliminated.
With all the shootings that have happened in the last couple years you would think that more people would be for gun control but 52% are actually for gun rights or the right to own a firearm while 46% are for gun control. Gun rights allow legal US citizens to own a firearm and that right is protected by the 2nd amendment.
When it comes to the controversial subject of gun ownership, almost everyone has an opinion on where they stand. Many people that oppose the ownership of a firearm or are pushing for stricter gun control laws argue that guns are responsible for many deaths and tragedies that have taken place in the United States in recent years. Individuals that are in full support of their second amendment right are arguing that guns do not kill people, but people kill people. A recent study has shown that due to an increase in sexual assault, that women are the fastest growing gun owners. Stronger laws need to be passed to control who can get their hands on a gun, however the peaceful gun owners who strictly use their firearms for self defense should be allowed to keep them.
Violence is everywhere in the world. In every country, city, town and village there is some form of violence. In my lifetime, there have been countless deaths and injuries due to gun violence. We happen to live in a country where gun violence is among the most prevalent in the world: The United States of America. Today, gun control and gun violence has become a controversial issue in America. The issue for gun control has been debated for a long time, probably ever since they were invented. It is small, yet an extremely dangerous factor in our lives. The "right to keep and bear arms" could be beneficial and problematic at the same time. While many believe that the second Amendment, "the right to keep and bear arms" provides security and self protection, I believe that gun ownership leads to deaths, violent crimes, suicide and homicide outside or inside homes.
Gun Control in America has been a major debate since 1995. The debate is never ending because there are so many situations that have surfaced, requiring different policies and exceptions. Guns in America have not only provided protection for some citizens but they have also wounded and killed many citizens. Our laws allow for possession of registered guns with a gun license but it is easy to purchase a gun without showing a legal license. We must remember that although guns are used to kill, they are not the root of the problem. Guns are sometimes used as a result of being mentally unstable. We cannot necessarily say if there were tighter gun control laws there would be less gun related fatalities but we can say that it will result in a better understanding of why firearms other problems that are considered dangerous.
