President Andrew Jackson served as President of the United States from 1826 to 1837 and is looked at my many as one of the best presidents in American history. Jackson was a man without many limits and did what he wanted because he simply wanted to do it, not because it was necessarily the popular opinion or Constitutional. This caused a lot of problems, but also was very beneficial in making solutions to problems in the country. Although, as a result of this, many people saw him as a dictator-like tyrant and didn’t agree with his pandering towards the uneducated, more working class civilians during his campaign. President Jackson’s presidency was controversial as a result in debate over his political tactics as well as possibly overstepping his Constitutional boundaries when it came to the amount of power he exuded on the people; therefore, many people spoke out against his “uneducated followers” as well as his aggressive style while some evidence shows that these efforts were supported. Firstly, Jackson was the first president to ever pander to those who weren’t educated, rich, and well cultured. Coming from humble beginnings, Andrew Jackson sympathized with the average, everyday citizen and wished to represent their opinions rather than just those of the wealthy. As shown in Document 7, a pie graph showing the rise in the turnout of voters from 1824 to 1844 reveal a dramatic increase in voter turn out when Jackson first ran for President compared to the previous
There is much controversy surrounding whether or not the seventh president Andrew Jackson deserves to be on the twenty dollar bill. While some see him and his policies and dangerous and harmful to the country others see them as necessary. Too achieve most good things, one must overcome challenges along the way. Andrew Jackson however had many significant obstacles, some that resulted badly, that shined a negative light on his presidency. Even though some of the actions Jackson took had negative outcomes they all had the best interest of the country in mind and helped America to grow and prosper.
On October 20, 2017, president Andrew Jackson is brought in court. He is tried for crimes against humanity. Robert Remini, John Ridge, Martin Van Buren, and Andrew Jackson will be testifying in court. With all the facts and claims set out, we they will deliberate the outcome for Mr. Andrew Jackson.
Andrew Jackson was a wild and rememorable president because of his hot head and him choosing to not care about what the government says. Andrew had a very interesting life as a child and politician too.
Unless we want this country to be under a constant spiral of deterioration we must elect a candidate who will be good for us due and remember where the power lies in America, that being the common man. Democracy is power to the people, and excluding impoverished and uneducated from voting blocks does not represent that. This country was founded on the grueling hardships of those who, today, would not be considered as elite and therefore would not have been given the right to vote. We must not take privileges from those who built today's civilization. As a debtor farmer, the man I want running my country is Andrew Jackson, who will in turn give me my deserved rights. I support him fully in his policies of Indian removal and in the distrust of
In the history of America, the people have always had a mixed opinions or views with certain presidents on certain bills. Some presidents brought change, while others didn't which shows why not all presidents have a bill with their face on it. But the people have never felt more mixed about a president on a bill until Andrew Jackson took the 20. While Andrew Jackson has made a lot of positive gains in America there is still a lot of negative things and I think he shouldn't be on the bill at all. He has done way more harm than good such as he was still a murderer and a traitor symbol on America because of events he took in such as him making South Carolina stay in the union and pay taxes, him vetoing the pet banks, and he signed for the Trail of Tears.
The quote from Document 1, “Vote for us, if you think the people should govern,” showed how he appealed to many Americans who this was their first time voting. Due to the removal of the land requirement to vote, eager American men could input their say in government to a leader, Jackson, who stood up for the people. The evidence further explains why Andrew Jackson was a democratic supporter of the people. He had the people on his side, including the common folk, in vast
Andrew Jackson, while controversial at times, had a major impact on the United States of America. He was seen as a role model to many due to his great organization and strict discipline. Being only the seventh president of the United States, Jackson differed from the presidents that preceded him. He represented the most prominent political party at the time, the Democrats. Jackson is credited for his contributions to the growth of America by helping represent the common man, expand westward, and expand economic opportunity for all.
Andrew Jackson: one of the most controversial Presidents of our country's history. To some, he was a hero of the common man, to others, he was a power hungry dictator. In the years before Jackson's presidency, the country felt exceedingly nationalistic. The Federalist party was thriving. America had stood up to the British in the War of 1812 and James Monroe had issued the Monroe Doctrine, advising all countries in the Eastern Hemisphere to leave the rebelling South American Countries alone. However, when Andrew Jackson became President, power shifted from the legislative and judicial branch to the executive branch and from the federal government to the states governments.
Throughout Andrew Jackson’s presidency, he sought to represent the common man, but in doing so has negatively affected the American people. Many of the decisions that Jackson made were thoughtful resolutions to complex conflicts that threatened to dismantle the Union. Though he resolved conflicts, the effects of his decisions were felt beyond their benefits. Decisions made by Andrew Jackson such as the veto of the Second National Bank, which was positive in theory but ultimately led to severe shortcomings economically, questioned the ideas of the Jacksonian Democrats. These Jacksonian Democrats were guardians of the United States Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic opportunity for the most part; however, there were pitfalls with their ideas.
Andrew Jackson is arguably one of the most influential presidents in history. He believed that government had a social obligation to the people and that it was the most democratic branch. He was the first president to create a grassroots political
President Andrew Jackson was an effective President because he spent his time working to create a great future for this country and created left an impact not only on the country but its people. Once Jackson was in office, he started creating treaties with Native American tribes, he successfully established around 70 treaties. Jackson also pushed America’s expansion to the west, also tried to get Mexico to sell Texas for 5 million, which failed, he did however successfully get the Spanish to give the territory or Florida to the United States. Jackson put pressure on the French for several years to return captured American ships and sailors for and pay $5,000,000 USD for damages from the Napoleonic era. After the French refused to pay several
When Jackson was elected, he was seen as an ambassador of the working man, or the common man. Jackson very much wanted to have equality among classes. He supported equality among classes and didn't degrade one class of the white society (Doc 1). Since he supported equality among classes he wanted different classes in society, whether that be poor or wealthy, to have an opportunity to participate in government. To give people an equal opportunity he used a system called the spoils system, where people were rotated more frequently throughout government (Doc 2). The spoils system allowed different views and ideas in government to support all classes. More people then wanted to get involved in government, and the mindset of the common man and the spoils system helped more people in the community get involved and more excited about government. Since more people were
Andrew Jackson, born on March 15,1767 was the 7th president of the United States, who was a self made man, rising to money and power. He is viewed as a controversial historical figure in American history between being a hero or villain. Andrew Jackson is a villain due to his controversial decisions during his presidency, such as the spoils system, the nullification crisis, the Second Bank of the United States, and lastly the most impactful decision, the Indian Removal Policy. Jackson may have been seen as the common man leader, and did many things to benefit the people, but that can not justify his unacceptable actions.
There have been many arguments made about President Andrew Jackson. A war hero, standing tall and strong, he tried to represented the idea of reform in government and in the American ways. Jackson is often credited to be one of the United States’ greatest presidents, but there are many powerful reasons for doubting that claim. From the beginning, in 1824, Jackson has tried to do what is best for our nation, but evidence like the spoils system, Trail of Tears, and the Bank veto, has shown that in fact most of what he accomplished is now looked on as only causing problems for the Untied States as a whole.
Conceived in time of poverty, Andrew Jackson had turned into a rich Tennessee lawyer. When the time came and the war broke out between Britain and the United States, his administration in that conflict earned Jackson national fame as a military legend. He would then go on to turn into America 's most influential and polarizing political figure between the 1820s and 1830s. After barely losing to John Quincy Adams in the 1824 presidential race, Jackson returned four years after the fact to win reclamation, soundly defeating Adams and turning into the country 's seventh president. As America 's political gathering framework was created, Jackson turned into the pioneer of the new Democratic Party. For a while, his legacy is discolored by his part in the migration of Native American tribes living east of the Mississippi. Between the years of 1829 and 1837 is when president Andrew Jackson was an office. Many people recognize him from the twenty-dollar bill. Andrew Jackson has had a major impact on Tennessee history.
