“Historical background for The Prophet Habakkuk” Habakkuk’s name means “Embrace” and he was the eighth Prophet of the Minor Prophets. He was Prophet to the Southern Kingdom (Judah) who wrote his book around 600 B.C. Some may call Habakkuk the questioning Prophet because he questioned God’s wisdom. Habakkuk was confused, but unique because he questioned God’s wisdom without being punished. God did not mind Habakkuk’s concerns and was gracious enough to answer him. Habakkuk saw many sins that Israel and other nations were committing and was greatly concerned. Therefore he complained to God.

When I read the scripture it gave me hope that God had not given up on me, but be patient and trust Him.

Desperate to escape the despotic government, many people from Judah turned to false gods and idolatry.6 Pleading to God for rescue from such an immoral, faithless place, Habakkuk learned that the situation of Judah would be rectified in time.7 God said that He had prepared a chastising rod and that Babylon would be the avenging instrument of the just Judeans.8 After the Babylonians expelled Jehoiakim from the throne, God emancipated the Judeans and relieved the heinous social situation. In the end, Habakkuk knew that the just Israelite would not perish from the calamities of the Babylonian attacks;9 he knew that righteousness and faith would prevail. Instead of rectifying the situation at once, the Chaldean empire took control and continued to treat the Judeans harshly. Furthermore, Habakkuk became angry and questioned God again. Nevertheless, he heeded to the previous words of God and kept his faith. Before humanity lost faithfulness, Habakkuk needed to spread this message throughout the empire to save the Judeans. Habakkuk had to extend the word of God to all oppressed people, so he wrote in a style the Israelites could grasp.
One memory that this reading brought up to me was when I was in undergrad and I was raped by someone whom I believed to be my friend. Before this incident happened I wouldn't have called myself very religious, but I trusted God and the word of God. I was very involved with church and attended very regularly. After the incident happened I no longer trusted in God. I knew he was still watching over me, but I felt betrayed and I felt that he wasn't there for me when I needed him the most. With this I struggled for a long time with trying to get over the incident and trying to just get through school. I knew there was help, but I had fallen in such a deep hole there was nothing anyone could do. I found myself not worthy of things, I drank more and more each day, and I just felt like I hit rock bottom. One day my mother thought that I should attend church service on a Sunday so I did. I went to church and talked with church family. I was scared that I was going to be judged over what I had become. It was amazing I had struggled so much that after talking to my church family and allowing God back in I saw that God was the only way. Once I had opened my eyes and heart and let the word of God and God back into my life it was a major turn around for my life.
Isaiah came during a pivotal time in history. The world was changing rapidly and life was on the edge of prosperity and ruin, as it is today. In this uncertain time Isaiah was called by God to deliver a message of warning, comfort, and deliverance. Christians view the prophecies of Isaiah as a projection of the coming of Jesus Christ. Isaiah spoke of divine judgment and the promises of God through the Prince of Peace. Isaiah’s message of the future King was very meticulous. He describes how Christ will come, Christ’s character and Christ’s purpose. In this paper I will dissect Isaiah’s prophecies in the Old Testament and reference them to the events of Christ in the New Testament.
Abraham is the founding father of the three biggest religions in the world which are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He is the man who communicated with God and became the father of many nations. Abraham’s story begins by leaving his home behind and moves to Egypt because God commanded him to do so. As Abraham travels, his wife and he lie to the pharaoh and king that his wife Sarah is his sister and not wife. This action led to God punishing them by inflicting a disease on the Pharaoh and household, and the King receives a nightmare in which God reveals to him. Also, his wife Sarah could not bared children, so he impregnated Hagar, since he doubted that God would give him a biological child by him and Sarah. Abraham then makes a covenant
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” This quote from 1 Corinthians 3:11 appeared in many of his works and points to the Christ – centeredness of his theology (Machiel).
I keep on praying and looking for answer from him. Now the hold day it went like this listening and praying to hear from god. Just when it got closed to the time going to church he spoke to me and told me what do. He said when you get there I will tell you the word that I’m going to gave the people. The woman of god ask me do you need the office to get some pace from others that was coming in the church. I said yes then open the door to the office, and just went I open the bible. He gave me the word that I was waiting for all day to gave to the people. The word was that your prayers has been answer! I gave it to the people just as he ask me to do. Now when I was giving this word to the people they was looking at me like, I did not know what I was talking about. I looked at them and said god said this is his word. Prayer his been answered! I did what he said and sat down. Now let me tell you my pastor was not there that night when I gave them the word from
My mother was a mom who did what she could do for her children she worked as a cleaning lady at many homes to keep us in school and also to keep food on the table. My father however; was a self contractor and also a good worker at what he did but he was an alcoholic . He didn't help my mother at all even if she could find him. Nine times out of ten it was to late for us to get anything from him , thank the lord that the people where my mom work helped her out in so many ways. It would be weeks and sometime months before we seen my father again . It was very hard for my mother but still she kept going to work , there were nine of us at home that needed to be cared for . The older ones as myself went to work to help our mom with our sisters and brothers. The smaller ones I kept them when I was not at work with my
Submit a 1250 to 1500-word paper in which you compare and contrast the lives of Muhammad and Jesus in relation to each perspective religion Complete the following steps in your paper:
All three Middle Eastern faiths begin with the same God of Abraham. Each religion was born in succession of the other. Christianity progressed from Judaism while Islam progressed from both Judaism and Christianity. Jews and Muslims recognize God as one monotheistic God. Christians also view God as one monotheistic God, but see his essence represented as a Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (soft-monotheism).
There’s so much joy in believing in Jesus, so much love and reassurance which everyone should be able to experience even through the difficult times we unfortunately face because of original sin. It is understandable that at one point of one’s life, your faith may go through doubt. The reason this gospel is being written so that when you are in that moment of doubt, hatred or despair, you will be reassured that Jesus is still there. Helping, embracing, and loving you no matter what or even if it may not seem like it at that time is what Jesus does. During these periods, it is essential to find that little speck of hope and faith that remains in your heart, pray and reflect, and let Jesus lift all these worries from you and love you. Every so often we must overlook him being the almighty person he is, the savior and just talk to him as a friend. Being your friend is all he wants to do because Jesus loves you and frees you from despair. Giving you hope in dark times when it feels like no one will makes him the friend you need. It is important to know he is our friend because when doubting, it can be hard to remember that he is trying to help us, so instead of turning away from him, we should hug him even harder. As a result, our faith should strengthen us to get through all these challenges we face, and move on to lead a life full of happiness, love, and
Let me add here how very faithful God was to me. If I had known what the future held, I would not have been able to go forward. In God’s grace and infinite wisdom, He protected me and only allowed me to have enough information to continue to go forward.
It says at the end of the verse, "God will personally go ahead of you." That part just jumped off of the page and slapped me across the face! I really felt that God wants you to know that he will personally go before you. I'm not sure what that means, wheather that be in ministry or relationally, but I really feel that's something that God wants you to have peace in. If you feel anxiety about something or are worried about something, I want you to know that God is going to personally go before you. The next part of that verse says that "He will neither fail you or abandon you." God is with you Will, and he won't fail you or abandon you. I hope that encourages you and I hope that makes sense to
2.1 Agree: 1. Prophets were frequently rejected. 2. Prophets are a communicator between the people and God. 3. The prophet’s “books” we have now were not written by the prophets.
Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of the Caliph Harun al-Rashid and his much-exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point about religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious mandates while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though the qadi claims that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur’an and the teachings of Islam, the series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage with the slave girl - which involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male slave in order to divorce them and avoid the three-month “period of legal purification” (Schroeder, 1955) required for sexual conduct, as well as ordering the male slave to become the property of the girl in order to annul their marriage when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own - it certainly seems that these actions probably violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid violation of the letter.
