It is no wonder why America is in such turmoil. One minute the big issue is terrorism, the next is war, only for the general populace to find some other outlet to be distracted with. It seems as though no one ever stopped and really thought about why there are so many things wrong within the country. Of course it is known that life is unpredictable, but there 's no excuse for things to be the way they are if the government is supposed to be "for the people". While all of this time is spent focusing on other issues that have been around since the 1700 's there are some subjects that usually get left in the dark. While it may not seem like it, there is a steady increasing issue with Poverty. There are a number of reasons it exists; the …show more content…
Since the founding of America there has always been a shift in power directing the way the government looks and takes action against social issues. To no avail the problem is really never dealt with. Dating all the way back to times even before man could speak there has always been some sort of “ruling party”. This is simply due to one group having more possessions than another revolving around the whole concept of survival of the fittest. As mankind evolved so did issues that formed into the ones known today. What use to be a struggle for meat is now a struggle for money. At the will of the government most minds have been programmed into what is defined as “successful”; Graduate high school, go to college, and you 'll get a good job. This is what is said, but to all the citizens out there who 's earned degrees and still without work would beg to differ knowing it 's not as easy as it sounds. According to (Shahien Nasiripour’s, Politics) unpaid student debt is at an all-time high of 1.3 trillion dollars. That 's roughly 8 percent of the national Debt! There 's such a drive for the chase of the “American Dream” people aren 't considering the outcomes of taking these loans to get into school only to find themselves right back where they started. If a person makes money but owes money at the same time, in theory that money really doesn’t belong to them. This is exactly what happens when people who don 't necessarily have the means to go to college try to go anyway,
The Lacks family was greatly taken advantage of in the 1950s because of their race, lack of education, and social class. The family believes they should be compensated with a donation given the amount of money Henrietta’s cells were worth. Her cells were sold all over the world for a large sum of money. Additionally, several scientific discoveries were uncovered because of Henrietta’s cells. The new knowledge has no price. However the family is continuing to look for a donation. The Lock’s family should not receive monetary compensation for her donation because it there were laws in place at the time preventing patients from suing hospitals regarding interactions with cells and other things.
Just about everyone agrees that college should be more affordable. A century ago high school was becoming a necessity, not a luxury; today the same is happening to college. If college is essential for building a career and being a full participant in our democracy as high school once was, shouldn 't it be free, paid for by public dollars, and treated as a right of all members of our country? The average college graduate comes out of college with at least $60,000 in debt and if they went to an Ivy League should that shots up to upward of $100,000 all this debt before they even get their first real job (“Fast Facts”). This is the burden that students have to worry about and then they only have six months to find a job that can cover they loan payments, which can be as much as a couple thousand dollars a month and most working people can’t afford that. These days it is highly emphasized that the responsibility to educate the poor lies on the shoulders of the government. It should be, considering the significant hike in the tuition fees worldwide. In such circumstances, many intelligent and hardworking students miss out on studying in a university due to lack of funds. This not only demoralizes the student, but also has a negative impact on the society as it loses out on its future professionals.
Byran Hogeveen argues that the Canadian youth justice system is centered around ‘vengeance as justice’ concept. Vengeance is an act of taking the law into one’s hand and gives a punishment for a person who had done something wrong. It does not care if the result of punishment will in turn, change a person’s behavior. The aim of vengeance is to make the punished person suffer as his victim did. But how is vengeance related to Canadian youth justice system? The youth justice system promotes a tougher punishment and prioritized public safety, rather than youth’s need (Kramer, 2011). It solves the youth’s problem by sending youth to detention facility rather than looks at the real issue behind youth’s problem. As mentioned by Hogeveen, it is injustice in the justice system.
Matt Taibbi argues in his Rolling Stone article titled “Ripping Off America: The College-Loan Scandal” that the government is the primary source to blame for today’s appalling inflation rates on increasing student debt. Additionally, he argues that the reason the tuition is so exploitative and unfair, is because it was created to benefit two groups. The first being, “…colleges and universities, and the contractors who build their extravagant athletic complexes, hotel-like dormitories and God knows what other campus embellishments” (Taibbi). Next up, the other group that gains from the current system is the government. This is because, “…the government actually stands to make an enormous profit on the president 's new federal student-loan system, an estimated $184 billion over 10 years” (Taibbi). Further, Taibbi goes onto to state that students often have no idea what they are signing up for with student loans, because not all students have access to the same information. Finally, Taibbi mentioned that “because of the poor job market, young people may have less of a chance than ever to actually get a good job commensurate with their education” (Taibbi). This means that with no degree, students have no chance, but with a degree you are forced down a road of high risk, and at the end you are likely to be left with a ton of debt.
“By 2020, 65 percent of the jobs in the United States will require at least one post-secondary education Community colleges serve close to half of all American students, enrolling 10 million students each year, but just under 20 percent earn an associate’s degree within three years.”(Georgetown recovery: job growth and education requirements through 2020) In contrast to the 20th century, a high school diploma was sufficed enough to fulfill
This is also a problem because many people struggle to find enough money to go to college and take the help of loans. They look for their jobs in their careers to help pay off those loans. This is well established in an article by David Wallechinsky which talks about the possibility of the American Dream. In the article he says, “despite having a college education, Randy works $9 an hour finding community jobs for mentally challenged adults. Cherie works for a greeting card company for $7.25 an hour.” This shows that they are doing menial jobs that barely pay minimum wage despite having an education which should get them a higher paying
In recent decades, student loan debt has increased dramatically causing a so-called, “education bubble”. This ‘education bubble’ is essentially the ‘housing bubble’ within higher education. The Federal Government, like those in the housing market crash in 2008, are lending money to those who receive a low income and can not afford college. According to The Weekly Standard, “the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reports that during the past decade, student loan debt has nearly tripled and the number of students with debt has risen by 70 percent” (Cochrane). The Federal Government needs to decrease the amount of loans they are giving out in order to prevent another crash within our economy. As a senior in high school who will not be receiving
In order to be successful in the workforce, having a powerful career there are things needed like higher education. Graduating from college is essential to finding a successful job, since more jobs are making college degree a requirement, more people are going to college. The problem is the cost of going to college outweighs the earning from the career you obtain. Very little people are able to pay for college out of pocket. In 2014, 42% of undergraduates paid for college out of pocket (Sallie Mae). The result of this is that students seeking higher education are forced to take out loans. On average, college students borrows $25,000 to earn their degrees (Alexandria). I just don 't get the concept of college tuition or student loans. It
There are many reasons for [poverty]: persistent distrust of government among many Americans, real long-term fiscal and budget problems, political gridlock and the incorrect belief that most anti-poverty programs don't work. Perhaps part of the problem is that, among the many powerful political action committees in Washington, there is no poor peoples' PAC.
An education is one of the most important tools a person can acquire. It gives them the skills and abilities to obtain a job, earn a wage, and then use that wage to better their lives and the lives of their loved ones. However, due to the seemingly exponential increase in the costs of obtaining a college degree, students are either being driven away entirely from earning a degree or taking out student loans which cripple their financial prospects well after graduation. Without question, the increasing national student loan debt is one of the most pressing economic issues the United States is dealing with, as students who are debt ridden are not able to consume and invest in the economy. Therefore, many politicians and students are calling
The students in college today are the future of this country, and are undoubtedly discouraged by the amount of money it takes to pursue their career. Of course loans are existent, but many are denied of receiving them ergo they are forced to drop out. The future of America stands on those who are receiving an education today, but unfortunately money is a huge concern for them. In the end, the American Dream that promises equal opportunity is a lie for those who are not above a middle-class.
Education and school, these both word always has been the main priorities for all of us. Pursuing the American dream of graduating college can be the best feel ever but it can also cost a price. College tuition is increasing more and more every year due to the fact of the rising economy. With student want to be successful in life they will need an education to a degree, which will land you a decent job in life. The problem is when the cost of gaining that degree outweighs the financial advantage to the career. Many of people are not able to pay for college out of their pocket. The result of this is that students seeking higher education are forced to take out an enormous amount of student loans. College tuition is on the rise, and a lot of students have difficulty paying for their tuitions. To pay for their tuitions, most students have to take out loans and at the end of four years, those students end up in debt. Student loan debts are at an all-time high with so many people graduating from college and having difficulties finding jobs in their career fields. So they have difficulties paying off their student loans and, they also don’t have a full understanding of the term of the loans and their options if they are unable to repay. This means that they are entering the workforce after college already thousands of dollars in debt and under water. I believe that students who borrow money from our government should not pay for their student loans.
Chemical kinetics is the study of speeds, rates and mechanisms of chemical reactions. The speed of a reaction is called the reaction rate. Therefore, the reaction rate is the speed at which a chemical reaction occurs. The rate of a chemical reaction refers to the speed that a reaction proceeds and is measured by the disappearance rate of one reactant or by the appearance rate of a certain product. Reactions occur at many different rates.
As a society the United States of America as well as, other tier one nations have been able to effectively deal with such things as looming national economic meltdown, international terrorism and other sources of great social discontent. Yet, not one of these nations has been able to undergo the effective complete removal of the plight of poverty and the problems associated in socially disorganized (poverty stricken) areas. This is why here in the 21st century there
Going to school and trying to afford it can be a financially draining experience, and I know that from experience. Our government has made many relevant changes thus far to better support students, but much more can still be done. With rising tuition costs and not enough government aid, more and more students are forced to take out loans in order to pay for continuing education. These loans later become a huge financial burden, some totaling near $30,000. If the dream of a college education is dependent upon access and affordability, how are young people supposed to continue their education and plan a future, when the cost of tuition is through the roof? Because higher education supports our economy, the government should be expected
