As Alexander the Great had said, " I do not fear an army of lions led by a lamb. I do fear an army of sheep led by a lion." In the great words of Alexander III, he believes that in order to strike fear into enemies that the soldiers and men need a leader as strong and menacing as a lion. In the epic, The Odyssey, Odysseus is the lion that leads an army of sheep on a quest back to his home Ithica. Throughout the journey home, Odysseus fought off monsters, saved his men from great peril, and lead his men back to their home in Ithica. Odysseus was a strong leader and did everything to help his crew because he saved his men from the intoxicating lotus flower and rescued his men from the witch Circe.

Odysseus was a strong leader because he saved his men from the island of the lotus eaters. While his men were there they had eaten the mind-altering flower and completely forgotten about their quest back home. However, Odysseus was strong enough to realize the power of the lotus flower and call for his men to get on board and tie the ones that have eaten the flower and force them back onto the ship. In doing this it shows how Odysseus was quick to find out what the flower was doing to his men and he saved them from the flowers power. …show more content…

Odysseus and his men were blown to the island of Circe. They were stuck on the island and Odysseus sent his men out to explore the island and find Circe. Once the men went into Circe's hall they came face to face with her where she turned them into pigs and put them in a pit. Odysseus suspected something and went in to come and save them with the help of a gift from Hermes that would weaken Circe's powers around him. Circe realizing she was powerless, turned the pigs back into humans and then helped Odysseus find a way back home.
