Power and authority play an important role in the fabric of society. In most communities, the people who hold these privileges are determined by age, profession, hereditary status and wealth.. Societies have clearly defined boundaries that dictate the authority of leaders upon followers, which usually consist of common citizens and especially, younger generations. Those meant to be followers should not defy authority as it causes their families and communities to renounce them. Furthermore, it prompts leaders to abuse their powers to retain control, ending with damaging consequences for their victims. Two examples that demonstrate these outcomes are ‘The Use Of Force’ by Carlos Williams and Mauro Senesi’s ‘The Giraffe’, both of which include protagonists that challenge the authority of their superiors.
Both Mathilda from ‘The Use of Force’ and the children from ‘The Giraffe’ are renounced by their families and communities, due to their defiance for authority.Mathilda’s father renounces his daughter’s attitude and offers to hold her down, purely with her own best interests at heart. On the other hand, the townspeople’s seclusion of the children and their giraffe is meant to preserve their authority and teach the children a lesson . In “The Use of Force’, Mathilda repeatedly refuses to obey the doctor’s orders to open her mouth.’The doctor ‘told the parents that it was entirely up to them’ if he should force her mouth open to diagnose her, and the parents agreed. The father
The essays that comprise Traditional Classics on Leadership present varying notions of authority and of challenging authority. This is largely due to the fact that this manuscript is comprised of essays from 31 contributors, ranging from well-known political theorists to some of the more salient voices for individuality that the world has known. Still, there are some points of commonalities in these essays that present a synthesized viewpoint of the concept of challenging authority.
Throughout all of human civilization there have been those with power and those without it. Consequently, those with power have often been able to control those without power. A few examples of books that touch on this issue are “The Lord of the Flies”, by William Golding, “All Quiet on the Western Front”, by Erich Maria Remarque, and “A Tale of Two Cities”, by Charles Dickens. All three books “The Lord of the Flies”, “All Quiet on the Western Front”, and “A Tale of Two Cities” exemplify the power leaders have upon the rest of society.
Authority is given to those who are capable of utilizing their authority to benefit for good and only for good.Any person in authority whether he or she is a president of the United States or a kindergarten teacher, they have been granted that authority because they have proved themselves as worthy to be entrusted with whatever that position of authority is. But those who have authority resting in the palms of their hands, it does not make them perfect. They are humans who are susceptible to the plague of greed, emotions, and bias, just like any other human being. Therefore questioning those in authority, whether it is his or her ideas, decisions, or actions, is imperative because it creates healthy relationships, a healthy state of mind for

The strongest branch of government is the Executive branch because it holds the most influential power of the "Three" (being the Executive, the Legislative, and the judicial branch) as well as many other "informal powers". Though the strengths of each branch of government were meant to maintain equality in the government, due to informal powers, the executive branch can override a veto from either branch. In addition, the president, who is a part of the executive branch, is more or less the face of the country, therefore the president is able gain popularity among the citizens of the United States as well as major businesses, who have the power to vote and sponsor their appointed leader ( i.e. the president).

Domestic violence is about power and control, and that's where the issue comes in. The abuse happens when an individual that wants power and control over another individual. God is a God all by himself. He did not place his people on this earth to rule over one another. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We are here to do good works for God. We are supposed to love and care for one another. But, when God is taken out of our relationships it becomes about us and what we want, then we start heading down a road of destruction. Psalm 37:38 explains to us, “But all sinners will be destroyed; there will be no future for the wicked.” No matter what the situation may be always remember our purpose on earth is to love one another a serve God.
During the fifteenth century in Europe, a new system of government known as absolute monarch in which all power in the country is consolidated under one ruler began to emerge and dominate countries throughout Europe. This replaced the old feudal system, in which power was fragmented between a large group of lords and vassals all fighting between each other. In Europe, powerful bureaucratic states began to form in France, England, and Spain, and later in Austria, Prussia, and Russia, as leaders solidified their power by raising taxes, strengthening the military, and declaring their superiority over the traditional nobility. This new style of governance was not warmly welcomed by everyone. The subjects under absolute rule had many grievances with their leaders. Because these grievances oftentimes led to social unrest, and eventually a new wave of liberalism on the continent, it is important to understand where rulers and their subjects disagreed about the role of an absolute monarch. These differences can be broken down into two key areas: the rights of citizens and the nature and use of absolute power.
Power Power is defined as the ability to do something or act in a particular way. Power has its many effects; the most popular effects are that powerful people are rude and selfish. Powerful people can be completely different people such as they are rich, smart or even strong, but they all have that one thing in common; irresponsibility. Their power will be eventually ripped away from them , they just do not know how to handle their power. Their power usually throws them in the opposite direction then they should be going.
On the eve of November 8th, 2016, secretary of the Democratic Party Hillary Clinton or politician of the Republican Party Donald Trump will become president of the United States. With their dividing views, it splits the nation in half with their ideals and plans for the future. This election is what brings out the true form of freedom of speech in America-polarization between the Democrats and the Republicans. Not only does this election bring out the significance of how important it is to vote, but also what kind of leader people want to lead for the next four years. The vision of America 's future could possibly be at stake depending on who comes out as the winner in less than a week. Power will be given to either Clinton or Trump, and that is what will determine the outcome of the fates for everyone residing in the Unites States for the next four years.
Leaders are faced with many problems that they must overcome if they wish to succeed. However, the first and most important concept is how they interrupt their surroundings. In all three of the leader’s stories above one similarity stands out, that they rose to power during turmoil. This seems to be a simple coincidence, but contemplate how when the world seems to be running smoothly there is little pressure for new leaders to arise and even lesser a need for strong strict leaders. During turbulent times, however, people crave a strong leader that promises peace, stability, and prosperity. In rough times, people revert back to their more animalistic ways, seeking self-preservation. Even though all three leaders maximized this concept, Hitler was the master. By preaching that only Germans could fix Germany, he promoted his followers to turn their eyes away from the outside world, alienating them from other countries and creating a bubble. Once their eyes were turned inward they focused on him, which allowed him to gain official power (or referred to as positional power in leadership terms). Some of the positions he head were leader of the Nazi Party and Chancellor of Germany. This allowed him to start to make laws that hindered the Jews. As the Jews started to suffer the other Germans began to feel more equal. He coupled this with defying other nations by building up Germany’s army, which endured him even more to the people. They saw him as rising up against the evil nations
Some theorists believe that ‘power is everywhere: not because it embraces everything, but because it comes from everywhere… power is not an institution, nor a structure, nor possession. It is the name we give to a complex strategic situation in a particular society. (Foucault, 1990: 93) This is because power is present in each individual and in every relationship. It is defined as the ability of a group to get another group to take some form of desired action, usually by consensual power and sometimes by force. (Holmes, Hughes &Julian, 2007) There have been a number of differing views on ‘power over’ the many years in which it has been studied. Theorist such as Anthony Gidden in his works on structuration theory attempts to integrate basic
Impersonal power; For people who push the idea of constitutionality, it is the thought that political order would not be the rule of men, but the rule of law. There exists an ancient saying that a good polity is one which is ruled not by the subjective and arbitrary will of particular men, but by the objective determination of general and public laws.
Power means to be on top, that there is no competition against you. I personally believe power gets you respect. People follow a powerful person. A powerful person is someone who does anything that they please in any particular way without any restraints. Another the way of having power to be financially successful. Having financial power in my world is another way of being powerful because money has a huge value in today's society and can affect people’s decisions. Having power is important to me not only for the respect factor but because by being powerful I would have less financial worries.
Power and truth play different but equal roles in maintaining control in a nation. Modern societies create regimes of truth that are enforced by power structures such as government, discipline and laws. When it comes to power, the government, queen or dictator is in charge. They tell their citizens what the main expectations are and how to abide by them. Nevertheless, the government should uphold fairness and not abuse its power unless it is necessary. Power is something that is earned; it is not something that is granted by default. The proper qualities, such as integrity, assertiveness and truth, in government or person can benefit its leadership skill set. Sometimes truth can be manipulated by the government to influence its people so
