Ehrenreich’s “Welcome to Cancerland” narrative resists becoming normate, she is critical of the economics and gendering surrounding breast cancer in mainstream culture biomedicine. Ehrenreich states that “more so than in the case of any other disease, breast cancer organizations and events feed on generous flow to corporate support (45).” Ehrenreich writes that “it is the very blandness of breast cancer, at least in mainstream perceptions, that makes it an attractive object of corporate charity and a way for companies to brand themselves friend of the middle aged female market” (48). Corporations make a profit while also appearing to care for individuals with breast cancer. The events sponsored by corporations engage with breast cancer on a surface level, much of the “ultra feminine theme of the breast cancer “market place” is “a response to the treatments’ disastrous effects on one’s looks” (46). The mainstream often does not recognize the treatment effects, environmental causes, the long-term psychological, physical, and social impact of people who survive or live with the disease, which Ehrenreich states. Furthermore, the focus on the appearance of women show that the breast cancer market reinforces patriarchal ideals and normative modes of gendering that Ehrenreich resists. Ehrenreich states that like the marketplace, the breast cancer industry largely profits, it is a $12-16 billion industry in surgery and treatments (health care centers, chemotherapy, radiation, drugs, and other options enforced by the biomedical industry) (51). Ehrenreich notes that one-third of Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, twenty-five percent of Komen of money is spent on advertising for races (51). The survivors who participate in races or purchasing breast cancer merchandise “are the best possible advertisements for routine screening mammograms, early

They sell household products such as shampoo and baby powder, which are daily essential products for most of the consumers. Therefore, it is very important that all the information about the products is delivered to the public. However, in 2009, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics discovered that J&J manufactured their baby products with an ingredient that releases formaldehyde, which in high levels can cause cancer [9]. There were many cases where women suffered from ovarian cancer after a long-term use of its baby powder. One of the lawsuits accused the company for not adequately warning about the cancer risk associated with talcum powder, and concealed this information from the public instead [10]. Hence, it was ordered to pay $417 million to a woman who developed ovarian cancer after using its baby powder. Moreover, J&J was ordered to pay $72 million to a family of a woman, aged 62, who died from ovarian cancer because of using their baby powder for many years [11]. This is similar to the crisis that happened back in 1982, where 7 people died from taking their painkiller,

Chemicals are also suspected to cause breast cancer. Xenoestrogens are chemicals with estrogen-like effects, they are found in pesticides and other common industrial products. Other estrogen-like chemicals that have a stronger association with breast cancer include dieldrin and beta-hexachloraocyclohexane. Although these chemicals are very weak estrogens, one study showed that exposure to single weak-estrogen compounds isn’t a big risk but a combination of two or more chemicals result in extremely high estrogenic

While health foods stores attract consumers to purchase health supplements, many manufacturers use health food stores to promote their bogus products. In March 1999, the FTC filed a complaint in federal court against the makers of Vitamin O. The company ran false ads claiming the Vitamin O supplement prevents cancer, heart, and lung disease by adding an extra oxygen supplement to the bloodstream. With no scientific evidence to prove the benefits of Vitamin O, the two companies from Washington agreed to a settlement of $375,000 for consumer compensation. The settlement prohibited the Vitamin O manufacturers from making claims that were unsupported about the Vitamin O health benefits. Testimonials and endorsements of product represented through previous experience from members of the public who used the product were also prohibited in the settlement. In conclusion, marketing agents with false science beliefs have one common goal: To sell! We as consumers must be aware and informed of unknown supplements that claims to have a great deal of impact to your life. These products are known for its testimonials by doctors and actors that make claims of using the product. Pseudoscience supplements have caused serious illnesses and even death due to consumers lack of knowledge when purchasing these products. It is strongly recommended that consumers research the companies and the product that advertise false products very carefully before purchasing a supplement that claims to
Many scientific researchers have said that our environment has been filled with toxic chemicals, which us humans have had a part of. There are many different issues that should concern us surrounding these toxic chemicals. The major concern is that many of these toxic chemicals have been claimed to be causing damage to the health of humans and even other life forms. Another concern is that most of the theses toxic chemicals have just recently been produced; and by our environment changing everyday there is no telling what effects these toxic chemicals may have in the long run on the public 's health. Just about all of these toxic chemicals exist in the way they do because of humans. As humans we practice a lot of different activities that cause toxic chemicals to pollute our environment such as, agriculture, industrial, and many domestic activities as well. Many of the toxic chemicals that we produce and use don 't get used in a effective way, which causes them to be wasted, left abandoned, and disposed of. When toxic chemicals are not disposed of properly they effect the environment and the public 's health in a negative way.
In addition, the company makes humorous advertisements to mimic auto advertisements where advertisements are placed on the rear of the specialty DXP. Use of celebrities is also done which according to Kotler and Keller (2012) is a strategy that hinges on wooing the following of the celebrities. Celebrities are considered to have market influence and thus their approval of a product is likely to generate increased sales. The choice of celebrities is however important to ensure that brand identity is not lost. The company should therefore be keen to ensure that celebrities who have an influence on healthy eating are chosen so as to drive
The general spirit of camaraderie has been replaced with hostility and frustration; many LB members have left the company. Overall, this resulted in ineffective marketing and a success rate well below “action standards” for the national product launch in Canada: 50 against a base index of 100. The poor results and generally unsatisfactory project progress jeopardizes our client relationship with OBC, LB’s future dealings with the “Forever Young” brand, and the whole Ontann Beauty Care company.
In 2002 a study conducted found that parabens mimicked the hormone estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors on cells. The study also discovered that parabens increase the expression of genes usually regulated by estradiol, the genes that cause human breast cancer cells to grow and
