Is it more important to stay true to those you love or do what’s right according to the law? In other words, is loyalty more important than justice? Loyalty is more important, without question. People care about their friends and family and will do anything to make sure they are safe and protected. This is especially true when people don’t like the laws and think they are unfair or discriminatory. If you don’t like the laws why should you have to follow it, especially where your loved ones might be negatively affected? For instance, in the book “The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton several of the main characters are Greasers, a gang of people who stick together no matter what even if it means breaking the law. The Greasers are a perfect example …show more content…
Johnny, one of the Greasers, was a friend of Ponyboy. Several Socs (a rival gang of the Greasers) including Bob, Randy, and a couple of their friends were drowning Ponyboy in a pond at the park. Johnny thought that they would kill Ponyboy so he took out his switchblade and killed Bob. Johnny explained “I had to they were drowning you Ponyboy. They might have killed you.” Johnny risked breaking the law (and potentially being charged with murder) by killing Bob in order to save his friend’s life. Also, from the book “The Outsiders” a Greaser named Dally was being loyal to Ponyboy and Johnny instead of following the laws. He was being loyal to them and not obeying the law (by not turning them into the authorities) when he gave Ponyboy and Johnny a hideout after they killed Bob. S.E Hinton stated that “We’re almost as close as brothers.” That means that they are being loyal and protecting each other even if it means potentially breaking the law. “We gotta win that fight tonight,” Dally said. As stated by S.E Hinton “His voice was hard.” “We Gotta get even with the Socs. For Johnny.” That means that they are fighting for Johnny even if it meant hurting other people. Dally also was being a loyal friend to another Greaser named Two-Bit. It stated in …show more content…
From the book “Mama Went to Jail for the Vote” a girl loved her mom and walked in her footsteps. Mama was loyal to other women. Mama didn’t think it was fair that women couldn’t vote. She got arrested for protesting for her own rights. Mama was willing to go to jail for her beliefs. In the book “Yellow Star” by Carmen Deedy, King Christian was loyal to his people. King Christian didn’t like the law that everyone Jewish was forced to wear a yellow star. He was loyal to his people because he wore the yellow star even though he wasn’t Jewish and broke the law that Jews had to wear one and Christians didn’t. He showed that everyone was the same. From the book, “The Hunger Games” two of main characters Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were elected to be in the annual “hunger games”. The “hunger games” is a competition that takes place in an arena. The point in the arena is that everyone has to kill each other. Katniss and Peeta were good friends. They both didn’t want to listen to the law that they had to kill each other. Instead of listening to the law they were loyal to each other and protected each other. Also from the story, “The Hunger Games” Katniss Everdeen was selected to be in the “Hunger Games”. She was ordered to kill the other contestants. She didn’t follow the rules and instead protected her friend Ruth. She was being loyal to her
When someone is about to murder someone else, specifically a friend, most people would try to defend them by either yelling or trying to punch or push someone, they wouldn’t kill them, unless they had a reason. Almost everyone who has murdered someone, they have the intent to kill them, they always have a cause, whether it was self defense or not. In the book, The Outsiders, a character named Johnny had killed someone by the name of Bob Sheldon. He had killed him by the fountain in the park, and once he did, he ran away. Ran away because he knew he would get in trouble because he did it on purpose.
If you were a kid under aged and your parents died, and the only family you have left is your two brothers, would you rather go into the system or stay with them. Well we will be explaining some reasons why Ponyboy, from ‘The Outsiders’, should stay with his brothers, Darry and Sodapop.Pony should stay with Darry because he will be good for Pony and he will keep Pony’s grades on check. In this we will be using evidence from the novel proving why Darry is a good guardian and some websites to prove that if Pony goes into the system he could be bullied either physically or verbally by boys and girls in school. Pony should stay with Darry, but some think that Pony would be better of with the system because Darry won’t be a good guardian. Ponyboy is better of staying with Darry because Darry is a good guardian and because
Do you know what bad things could do to you? When you do something, you most likely mean to do it. The end almost always justifies the means. In The Outsiders, Dally helped Johnny and Pony get out of trouble. During WWII, the U.S. bombed Japan to end the war. In the Holocaust, some mothers had to kill one or two of their children in order for the rest of their family to survive.
Have you read this book because it's good for philosophical chairs ,and essays. This book was wrote by S.E Hinton and most complainants is that if Ponyboy ethier should go to the system,or should stay with Darry. And Pony should stay with Darry.
How Society Affects People “If we don’t have each other, we don’t have anything. We’re all we have left. We ought to be able to stick together against everything,” (Hinton). Characters are affected by society positively and negatively throughout the book, the video, and the poem. The society in the book, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, affected characters positively, like the poem, “The World Is Not a Pleasant Place to be,” by Nikki Giovanni did, as well as the video “On the Road with Steve Hartman.”
In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, it's built around the class division between the Socs and the greasers. The kids in the Socs came from privileged and wealthy families while the greaser grew up in a unstable and poor environment, and it shaped who they are and how they act. The novel deals with issues important to urban teens, and the obstacles that are part of their daily lives, showing realism in Hinton's writing. In the article ¨The Urban Experience in Recent Young Adult Novels¨ by Sandra Hassell and Sandy Guild, it discuss the importance of urban teens worlds represented in literature. The article consists of many characteristics that are established in urban youth books such as, the usage of slang, strong sense of community,
The Outsiders Essay S.E. Hinton wrote The Outsiders to show freedom isn’t always a good thing, shown by the lack of parents, violence, and no restrictions for the kids. Many of the kids do whatever they want. No one cares about what they do. Many of their parents aren’t even present in the book. Their parents either don’t care about them or they’re dead (like the Curtis’).
Look around at your close friends. You stick together just like a family. Your friends support and know you. Like a family, friends know each other, like each other, and relate to each other. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, my theme, friends are family, is very present. S.E. Hinton shows that Friends are family like when the greasers stick together because they really know each other and don’t really have family. The theme at the beginning is friends are family.
The Outsiders movie which was released on March 25, 1983, is a American drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola .It is a crime thriller and is adapted from a novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton .The Film was shot on location in Tulsa, Oklahoma and set in 1965 .The story of this movie revolves around the conflict between the two different social groups ,which is the rich and the poor. It is a class versus class conflict which gives rise to a physical conflict between the Greasers and the Socs .I feel there are physical fights throughout the story between the two groups due to enculturation. The native culture that is transmitted from one generation to another among the Greasers is the reason for their limitations.
In “The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, characters are exposed to problems in life and societal ills. Some of these ills include stereotyping, violence, and classism. The role of violence is significant. For example, whenever people experience violence, they will take precautions. For example, after Johnny got jumped, he began to carry a switchblade with him, just having it gave him new found strength. However, he thought he would never need it. Taking these precautions come at a cost, though. It might save a life, it may even save someone else’s life. In the end, it saved Ponyboy's life. Johnny used it on Bob, a popular Soc who almost killed Ponyboy. Ponyboy and Johnny were a part of the “greasers” who
The Greasers go to extreme lengths to help and protect their friends. When Johnny killed Bob to save Pony-Boys life it was an instinct that Johnny had. He said “They were drowning you pony, I had no choice.” Johnny saw that his friend was in trouble so on instinct his priority was to save Pony-Boy which meant killing Bob, but he did it anyway to save Pony’s life. This shows us that Johnny cares so much about Pony-Boy that he would do anything to save him even if it meant murdering someone and possibly going to jail. When Pony, Johnny and Dally went back to the church and saw that there was a fire Pony felt responsible so he went to rescue the kids then Johnny went after Pony-Boy when Pony-Boy was out and was waiting for Johnny to come out the church the roof collapsed on him and Dally went in to save Johnny even though it meant risking his life. Both of these examples show the theme of friendship. This theme was important because friends will do anything to help each other and be there for each other, and tell each other everything and anything. Friends will always be there to the end. S.E Hinton was

While reading The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, I felt as if I took a time travel to the 1960’s. The book clearly gives an insight to the past. Unlike other book, The Outsiders has its own unique meaning. The author created something different than a modern clique book that I read in my day to day life. Hinton’s word choice creates an interesting book where it felt as if it was non-fiction than young-adult fiction. I like this book because the author made something extraordinary by stating the past rather than another author’s writing twenty-first century book.
‘The novel, ‘The Outsiders’ shows that being part of a gang can give you a sense of family and belonging’.
When meeting with Katie and Daniel, Katie told me that “I am so thankful that I have already been baptized and do not have worry about all the extra hurdles that I would have had to go through. There’s already a ton of stuff to do before the wedding, and that would have just added to it. Already being Christian has definitely helped me throughout this converting process”. Jeff and Kristi both shared similar sentiments. Jeff discussed how even though he was not raised Catholic, he had this unconscious connection, “I had never put much thought into baptism since I hadn’t kept up with my religion through my teenage years. When I was converting, it became immediately apparent how the process was easier through this invisible connection that I had never realized. Even though I can’t remember being baptized, I’m glad my parents made that decision because it made the conversion process just that more convenient”. The church also emphasizes that the two individuals be baptized before marriage because the couple must vow to live a sacramental marriage within the church. In order to fully commit to the vow of marriage, the church believes that the couple are both baptized. The church also asks that the couple promise to baptize their future children and raise them within the church and teach them Catholicism’s values. Catholic Church Reconciling Outsiders’ Uneasiness:
