I have learned countless lessons that have helped shaped me. Even some of the smallest experiences in my life taught me a bigger lesson than those of which I have suffered, like falling of a railing and ripping my ears in half. Despite the circumstances, without these individual life experiences, whether good or bad, I would not be as wise before. The teachings from my small encounter can co-relate to the short text “The Nightingale and The Rose” written by Oscar Wilde, “Good Country People” written by Flannery O’Conner and “Eloisa to Abelard” written by Alexander Pope. The symbolism, themes and even the message of the story closely reminds me of the life experience when I was meddling in Julian and Cindy’s relationship. “The Nightingale and
Florence Nightingale was an immense impact on nursing, who “became famous for her revolutionary work as a nurse during the Crimean War” (Kent 30). “She dedicated her life to improving conditions in hospitals, beginning in an army hospital during the Crimean War,” (3 Registered). Her actions were then used by “concerned individuals, rather than by professionally trained nurses” during the Civil War, (Registered 279). Many of Nightingale’s ideas were brought into modern times, but with the improvement of technology and licensed nurses. With the influence and patience of Florence Nightingale, nursing has evolved into an outstanding career.
In the Promise of a Pencil book, by Adam Braun, he explains or gives stories about his journey in founding the Promise of a Pencil organization. In the book we see the themes or “mantras” that Adam describes and his experiences towards each of them. I think that the themes that relate to me in my transition to college are chapter two “get out of your comfort zone” and chapter twenty-six “surround yourself with those who make your better”. I can identify with these two mantras because in my life I have always strived to surround myself with people that make me better. I also need to get more out of my comfort zone which I did in high school but not as much, for example I was involve in some clubs and organizations
Nowadays, there are lot of books about the honor to the remarkable heroism and courage of people in tears of the World War II. The historical fiction novel Nightingale was written by bestselling American writer Kristin Hannah and published in 2015. In her book, she introduces the story about two sisters who living in France on the verge of World War II, and their effort to survive and go through the German occupation in the country. What is more, it was inspired by the real story of Andrée de Jongh, a Belgian woman, who helped pilots to leave the Nazi region in the time of war.
As I left the patio, I thought about Dad’s friend, Luc. He was a hunter and a fisherman, and I asked him once why he didn’t have the bumper sticker ‘Guns don’t kill. People do.’ He said because it was a lie. Guns gave people the courage to commit crimes or kill. I told Samuel Luc’s story. He thought for a moment and said that’s why Americans fear gun laws. They’re afraid if they lose their guns, they will lose their courage.

On the front lines of battle in 1854, she did not combat the enemies of Britain, but instead an adversary of even more titanic strength. She opposed the diseases and anguishes of the war which held the soldiers captive in infirm, powerless bodies. The book ¨ The Nightingale¨, has had a huge impact on me. It has taught me about sacrifice, family, heroism, kindness and human resilience. It has also taught me to not waste what you have and cherish every moment, because it can be gone in an instant. It made me understand more of what sacrifice means and what some people are willing to do for their family to keep them safe. It also taught me alot about family and how important family is. Family is super important to keep and help when you need help or when times are rough. Vianneś ability to bounce back at hard times has inspired me to help other people who are going through rough times. Heroism is a big part of this book. It has taught me you can impact so many people´s lives in such a little
Nursing has been part of human society for a large and mostly undefined amount of years, with first records being in primitive societies. In such societies, the role of caregiver or nurse was often given to one at birth or shortly after birth. Not unlike today, most nurses were female, with these societies thinking that it has been the role of the females since they nurse and provide nurturance their infant. While a majority of them were female, males were also involved being medicine men and shamans. The treatments they supplied were often ineffective and irrelevant to the disease that the patient had.
Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing. She was born to a wealthy family, and at a young age she felt called by God to help the poor and sick. While most people know that Nightingale was influential in the field of nursing, they might not know how much she truly impacted it. Nightingale essentially established the profession. Before she came along, nurses considered their jobs to be unimportant and of low-status, as they were untrained and were not taught properly about nursing, but learned through experience. Nightingale’s efforts turned nursing into a respectable profession raising the standards by incorporating education and responsibilities into the job. Nurses were no longer looked down upon, but became respected
Florence Nightingale had so many positive effects on nursing. It was hard to find anything that possibly hindered the nursing profession. The only thing that I found was the fact that she thought the nursing profession was only for women. Florence Nightingale’s influence on nursing changed its perception from a negative view of nurses to a more acceptable profession. In her days there was a shortage of people who were acceptable to become nurses. She created standards and guidelines for the profession. The guidelines did not include men becoming nurses. According to Judd and Sitzman (2013) Florence Nightingale felt that nursing was “exclusively a female occupation” (p.76). Therefore, men were excluded from the nursing profession at that time.
Florence Nightingale, the mother of nursing would be very proud of her accomplishment and dedication. Through out her life she believed there was room for nurses to grow. She believed in research collecting data, advanced education would improve nurses to better prepare to take care of patients. She had developed the theory of nursing focused on the environment to onhand the patient care . She focused on promoting holistic care.
Nursing today has become such an intricate world of healing, caring, knowledge and advocacy. All of these qualities are within every nurse. Nursing today is what it is due to many nursing theorist that came with a new set of knowledge and idea that helped shape nursing to what it is considered. One such theorist was nursing’s first environmental theorist, Florence Nightingale. According to Black and Chitty (2014), Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 to a prosperous English household. Her father educated her in many subjects such as: Latin, German, Greek, History and even Mathematics. Florence excelled in academics and wanted to further her studies by going to Kaiserswerth, Germany to study nursing. This was a huge deal in the era Nightingale lived in due to the fact that nursing was a working class job and Nightingale was from a wealthy family. According to MacQueen, (2007), nursing in that era was considered to be a job for the poor, involving untrained individuals and many were often accused of immoral behaviors. During the Crimean War, due to the horrendous war camp hospitals, Florence Nightingale was asked to gather nurses and head over to Scutari to help out at the British camp. With Nightingale’s charge, the camps conditions changed and the nurses brought cleanliness, comfort and sanitation to the patients. Nightingale made her mark as being known as the “Lady with the Lamp.” With the lessons learned during the Crimean War, Nightingale wrote an article describing in
"You can do this." I whisper to myself as I leave my car. A job at a publishing office cannot be too hard. All I have to is read manuscripts and decide whether to have them published or not. It is not an amazing job, but it is better than not having a job. My career as a writer is at a standstill, so at least I can be making money while trying to find inspiration for a book. It could be worse. I could be looking at people creepily from my bedroom window alone while eating Cheese Puffs. As I approach the office, I try to clear my mind. After all, I do need to focus in order to listen to my guide. I still cannot believe they actually got an employee to take off a full day of work to show me around the building and get me comfortable. Maybe this place will not be so bad. With all this kindness I am already receiving, things are looking up.
Florence Nightingale, a well-educated nurse, was recruited along with 38 other nurses for service in a hospital called Scutari during the Crimean War in 1854 . It was Nightingale's approaches to nursing that produced amazing results. Florence Nightingale was responsible for crucial changes in hospital protocol, a new view on the capabilities and potential of women, and the creation of a model of standards that all future nurses could aspire towards.
