In today's generation college students struggle to attend higher education. Tuition has been higher than ever before to attend college. This is true, college students battle to go to college. A book that I read "They Say, I say" mentions, "many families are indeed struggling, in depths of recession, to pay for their children's college eduction." (Sanford, 191). Paying for college funds affect families as well as the student. The title provides the basic to justifying the claim. The title can grave the readers attention in the first paragraph or have them hurtle away. The title of Sanford, "The New Liberal Arts" catches the readers attention. The word "New" made the reader want to know what was the new liberal arts. So the reader will dig into the first page to find out what the new liberal arts is. The claim is what the writer is trying to say to the reader also know as the main idea of the reading. Sanford's claim is that liberal arts is a better investment based on his experience although is cost the most. Sanford say, "a liberal-arts degree is a luxury that most families no longer afford." That being said Sanford claim is strong because he gives examples to support his claim throughout the chapter. An arguable opposition was that students are taking shorts cuts to well paying job. Although this may be a good idea they are job that may have a deed end. Sanford disagrees with taking short cuts because they do not teach critical thinking and writing
