The new Frontline documentary “Obama at War” by the filmmaker Martin Smith that was featured on PBS is mostly about the United Sates President Barack Obama trying his best not to go to war. The PBS Correspondent Martin Smith lays out, in a composed, thoughtful way, how the Syrian unrest over the past few years in opposition to dictator president Bashar al-Assad helped give mount to the authority of ISIS-led terrorism as the United States stood by, acting without conviction when at all. I am quite impressed by the idea of this documentary as it highlights the “war risks” and also shows how United States is fighting against the ISI. As I am already into action films, this documentary grabbed my attention till the end.
That’s the hour’s thesis, and it’s a persuasively skeptical, even disastrous one. The film uses the latest history of Syria to make its points and present all the facts regarding the war that started in Syria and later turned into a dirty politics that ruined the future of Syrians, starting with the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings and rioting followed by Assad’s brutal attacks on citizens in his country protesting for improved treatment. In the uprisings many violent events occurred and resulted in deaths of many people. The country suffered and reported many deaths and news of atrocious oppression spread, the documentary shifts to the United States of America, where state’s President Barack Obama was weighing ethical and political choices.
