Climate change has been in debate for many years over whether it is a threat or not, but climate change is a threat and will be for many generations to come. Climate change impacts the sea levels which has a major effect on oceans and marine life, causes more frequent and harsher storms, and puts coastal cities at risk for floods and erosion. Although climate change cost large amounts of money to fix it is killing our oceans and marine life, causes harsher storms, and risks coastal cities. Climate Change is a change of global or regional climate patterns, usually due to toxic gases in the atmosphere. Recently, President Trump "makes good on a series of campaign promises, including cutting Environmental Protection Agency funding by about one-third"(Merica and Marsh, 1). The President and other elected officials believe that spending money on climate change is a waste of money. The United States has more important things to spend money on like war. With all the funding going into climate change we are seeing no change and it is just getting worse so why keep funding it. Well in Jacob Klaus H. article it says "insurers say the total loss was $65 billion dollars" when Hurricane Sandy struck New York. With Climate Change getting worse over the years more and more storms will occur and most likely become much larger. If the Untied States is having to spend $65 billion dollars or more every time a storm hits in repairs it will add up. A city as big and as powerful as New York City isn't just not going to get rebuilt, it holds a huge economical status in the U.S. Funding for climate change is not a waste, the problem needs to be solved before it gets so large that cities can no longer be rebuilt and major cities are
