The outcome can benefit social and family relationships, as well as preserve ones health and make people more productive in organizations.
Stress can be caused by many different things within an organisation but the main causes of stress can be broken down into “six management standards” Anon (2009) how to tackle work related stress http://www.hse.gov.uk/ I used these areas to construct the chart below and discussed stress at a team meeting and asked my team to complete a Circle of influence around areas over which they felt they had no control Appendix 1 we also discussed what we / I could do to manage the six main causes of stress
According to Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary (2013), stress in general is a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation (Full definition of stress, 1c.). Job stress may involve the type of work your do, your boss, or co-workers or your hours you work. When it comes to job stress, it can take a toll on your productivity, as well as your physical and emotional health.
In defining the concept of stress, occupational stress and role stress are examined based on the fact that people's lives are characterized with stressors that contribute to numerous threats to their well-being. Since the concept of role stress, which is related to occupational stress, is not found in the dictionary, the starting point in the definition and analysis of stress is the use of the term stress (Riahi, 2011, p.722). While stress was initially described as the experience of some form of strain by any living organisms, the description has been expanded to a phenomenon that contributes to severe and distressing experience,
In today’s world Stress has become a ubiquitous word. It doesn’t matter if you are working in a highly competitive environment like at Wall Street or in a quiet neighbourhood like in country side or in any tier 2 or tier 3 cities; some amount of stress is inevitable. Stress is a highly serious problem in today world having repercussions on the physical and mental health of individuals. This negative effect can be disastrous for the organizations also. Due to stress the wellbeing of the employee falls and as a result organization itself becomes unwell. The organization sustainability falls as its productivity reduces. Stress can originate from many sources, like relationship problems, obligations and promises to family, friends
Stress is a major part of everyday life, it is defined as a response to a threat or pressure. Stress is caused by stressors, which are physical or psychological demands to which an individual responds. A reaction or response to a stressor is called strain (Landy & Conte, 2016, p. 372). Whether it be physical or psychological stress, sound mental and body health are crucial when it comes to performing job functions safely, efficiently, and effectively. Increased levels of stress can often lead to mental health and psychical disorders at the expense of the worker. This very reason is why it must be studied, resolved, and prevented in the workplace when possible.
Any work environment can have stressful aspects that can negatively affect the employees’ performance and may lead to burnout. Oftentimes when employees are stressed or burnout their commitment at the job may begin to weaken and they may lose satisfaction. Many organizations have recognized that workers burnout is the result of aggravated chronic work stressors and embodied by enervation and inefficacy. This author will discuss the impact of stress and worker burnout on organizations. Moreover, this author will consider the implication of stress and worker burnout on the employee, as well as the short- and long-term productivity of a business.
In this paper I will discuss stress and the workplace stress survey from the American Institute of Stress and if left untreated, how it will negatively affect the workforce. I will explain the results of my survey scores and why I believe they are positive and negative. Additionally, I will describe personal examples of the stressors that are always at work and how to identify and overcome them before they cause irreparable damage.
Nurses face many different stressors in their day to day work life. These stressors stem from the type of work nurses do (Raftopoulos, Charalambous and Talias, 2012). Stressors may also be caused by the nurse’s social interactions (Rodwell and Demir, 2012), for example strained relationships with colleagues, poor leadership within the team and underappreciation. The stress can even be caused by political issues such as job security (Boya, Demiral, Ergor, Akvardar, & De Witte, 2008) and inadequate staffing leading to an excessive work load (Lisa Y. Adams, 2014). If the nurse is unable to deal with this stress appropriately it can have negative impacts on his or her physical and mental health (Marin et al.,2011). An integral aspect of coping within a stressful environment is having the ability to bounce back and work through issues despite unfavourable circumstances, this is known as resilience (Courtney. J, 2015). Nurses can implement strategies to build self-resilience, examples of this could be; ensuring they have adequate social supports (Cross, 2015) and practising mindfulness (Ludwig & Kabat-Zinn, 2008).
Work plays an important part in the lives of many human beings and it affects their everyday well-being. Working is a huge challenge for a majority of the American people. The workplace is a big contributing factor of job stress. Psychological ill health is related to the problem of job stress. There are interventions that can be implemented to prevent or at least to reduce psychological problems.
Work-related stress is a growing problem around the world that affects not only the health and well-being of employees, but also the productivity of organizations. Work-related stress arises where work demands of various types and combinations exceed the person’s capacity and capability to cope. Work-related stress is the second most common compensated illness after musculoskeletal disorders.
So what is stress? Stress is a normal physical response that happens when you feel threatened or upset. When you feel that you are in danger whether it is real or imaged. Stress is a common issue that faces every human being in different times. Stress can be caused by many factors, but one of the main reasons is work which is called occupational stress or work-related stress. Job stress does not only affect the employees’ performance within an organization, but also it affects their general health. Stress has become a challenge for employers now because high level stress results in low productivity, increased absenteeism and other problems like alcoholism, drug abuse and hypertension (Ahmad, Mohamed. 2017). It became a major problem for employers especially in developing countries where they don’t realize the importance of work-life balance and the impact of stress on the productivity level and the job
There are almost three billion people in this world who are employed on different positions in different organizations of the world. Their working conditions like environment, work load, interconnectivity with coworkers etc are different but these employees faces one common issue during their jobs that is Job Stress. Stress has been defined in different ways over the years. Originally, it was conceived as pressure from the environment, then as strain within the person. The generally accepted definition today is one of the interactions between the situation and the individual. It is the
