People change the construction of their face and bodies daily. Sometimes it is a facelift, other times it is a nose job. But why would someone risk their life just to look different? It may be a health related reason, such as a deviated septum or a cleft palate, but other times people want to simply enhance their bodies’ natural figure and shape. Celebrities are known for their constant surgeries, and make average people want to change what they look like to. Besides, doesn't everyone want to have Beyoncé’s chiseled face? The first plastic surgery procedure was performed during World War One in 1917. The patient's name was Walter Yeo and he suffered from the loss of his upper and lower eyelids. Sir Harry Gillies was the doctor who performed the surgery. He extracted skin from undamaged areas of Yeo’s body. Then, the skin was laid across his face, hiding the carved out eyelids. His procedure was one of the first of its time, and, let us just say it did not end pretty. During this time period, plastic surgery was primarily used to fix the faces of soldiers whom had been deformed in battle. Overtime, it started to gain popularity with rich and famous people. In the 1970’s, women began to have cosmetic surgical procedures on their faces. Famous stars including Jennifer Grey have admitted to receiving a rhinoplasty, or a nose job. ““I went in the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous,” she has said of the surgery to straighten her distinctive nose.”
